Agree 100%! Nintendo games lack that "charm" they had back in the day. Although I will admit Kid Icarus Uprising definitely had that old Nintendo "charm" and it felt good!

I secretly believe that Nintendo is trying to play it super safe and at the same time they are trying to rush out games as soon as possible. The reason I say this is because lately some (not all) of the games they've been making while still good seem to lack some of that usual Nintendo magic that I always see or feel or get when I play their games. Some examples would be Super Mario 3D Land it felt rushed and it didn't seem to be that innovative at all (didn't Miyamoto say himself he didn't like it). Mario Tennis on the 3DS was lacking too and come on no RPG mode? New Super Mario Bros 2 was VERY similar to the last 2 entries but OMG they added tons of coins that's so innovative (sarcasm). While Mario Kart 7's online was awesome, all they did was add underwater and wings which play pretty much exactly the same as when u drive I feel like normally Nintendo would have done something amazing and unique with these 2 new forms of racing. With this year's E3 showing I'm severely convinced of this idea. Luckily though you can tell they put some of that Nintendo magic in some of their games like AC, Pikmin 3, FE, Luigi's Mansion which if you noticed were all delayed and didn't come out as fast as some of those other previous games I mentioned.

THANK YOU! You completely nailed my impressions! Couldn't have said it better! And that's exactly what I fear for Mario kart and Mario land. That they will be good but miss that sparkle and that the Wii U won't recover as it deserves to! I don't mind delays if they benefit the final quality of the game though I wonder if there maybe really IS some secret agenda up there sleeve! :)

No regrets.

+1
I hope Nintendo takes the chance to not only make a good Mario kart but really surprises us with something new, something completely catching us off guard!
They need to not only copy themselves but best themselves and at least make the most obvious use of that game pad! I mean one on, stylus + pad SCREAMs track editor!

No regrets.

Yes it's about video games.
Yes there are many kids in here (no idea how you took anything negative from it).
I made that comment because the analysis of my post and wording had nothing to do with the topic or video games and that the kids in here probably won't enjoy reading about someone being lectured.

Can we please stay on topic or just have no conversation?

Kids on a videogame centric website is nothing bad you know?

I do not have a problem with kids being on this forum but I find it insulting that you assume that because this is a video game forum it is full of kids. here is your quote again

Video Games are not only for children which I am guessing you know, I am just stating how I find it insulting. (one might call this venting)

Again. I didn't say it's exclusively filled with kids. I'm 31. Others are 40+ and others - the kids are below 16 or what have you. I don't see what's insulting about that as I never said video games are just for kids. It's what you assume.

Ok now lets stop, you know, you're right!
I apologise! I know I could have done better!
I promise less misunderstandable wording,
Coming early 2014. Please stay tuned! :)

Nobody forced you to buy a wii u already. Sure the delays suck, but if the game is worth it, then I don't mind.

Is Nintendo still innovative? Hell yes. They're the ones who came up with the motion control system and the double screen. Sony and Microsoft always follow Nintendo after a while and start copying them. In other words: Nintendo is still a trendsetter. If motion control was a good or a bad thing, that's not something I'm gonna say something about cause that's simply not the point here.

Is Nintendo as innovative as they used to be? No, because they keep making sequels. Sure, ssb, mario kart, super mario and zelda are fantastic games and I still love them but I think Nintendo should work on something new as well. A new concept, it doesn't even matter which genre but something that shows us they can still start from scratch and create something spectacular.

I dont have a Wii U so Im not butthurt or anything, I just still wait for the one reason to get one as I really want to enjoy that Nintendo-flair I know from my 3DS and decades of gaming experience, so far nothing is there. I am following most of the conversations in this forum and in some other threads people are argueing that Nintendo NEEDS to play it safe now to raise their install base, things like Mario World 3D WILL sell units as its wildly popular even though many of us would welcome something more "drastic" or "creative". It will be a solid and fun game, easy to pick up and it will bring in sales. Good so far.

My only argument - beyond the botched launch of the Wii U and the non existant marketing - which Iwata even admitted himself - is that I'd wish for something new or at least largely refined. 4 player COOP in that new Mario game is a step in the right direction. The next thing would be a level editor and the ability to share it with the community on Miiverse, challenge each other in speed runs. Something in that scale. And of course I still need to see what "wonders" that gamepad can do because so far its a convenience at best and a gimick at worst. I hope for the best though. For truly innovative concepts coming from Nintendo. I wouldn't mind it too much if they weren't buildig all their concept on that gamepad, now I want them to deliver and ifnally have a good reason to get a Wii U! ;)

No regrets.

I'm not sure what you mean by convenience. Have you tried playing with one? I think it enhances gameplay quite a bit and for me personally, is more welcome than motion control. Try playing NSMBU with 2 or 3 friends and you'll see that. Try playing Zelda, Metroid Blast, Pikmin or any of the other games on Nintendo Land. It feels like a quality addition to the console and it's very easy and light to hold. Use it to take games off the TV or watch Netflix or Amazon TV. Try drawing something if you feel creative and share it with Miiverse. It's extremely satisfying and I'm excited to see all of the new games that will take advantage of the new controller. So far, my family is loving it. We had relatives in town recently and everyone enjoyed it. I even convinced my staunch Xbox-loving brother-in-law to buy one. There's a bright future for the Wii U if more people try this console and the games start flowing.

I totally agree with all that you said,
but also you said it yourself, those people needed to experience it first, with you. Then they saw the draw of it. Like it is now the general public doesn't get it and while I also find its a nice addition, it's nothing that makes me think "Omg awesome" ... yet.

Just off the top of my head:

  • level editors for all first party games where you can easily draw and create using the stylus on the touchscreen
  • more ingame-video-chat and "face capture" features
  • more asymmetric gameplay, in lego city for example, let 3 people be cops and one the robber in the open world, playing on the gamepad, stealing stuff etc..
  • a starship game, 5 people run a spaceship, one on the gamepad is the captain giving orders to 4 others who work in split screen sections of the ship, battle station, enineering, navigation and medical, would be wonderful to get that "fix that up scotty, i need main energy up in 5" awesomely hectic feeling in a game...

and so many more, thats just really off the top of my hat. The potential is there but they should really bring it, it would be a shame if the Wii U got to waste! ;(

No regrets.

Honestly, what is it that people want? I believe that Nintendo is the only gaming company trying to innovate. This is why I prefer Nintendo and dont even own any other consoles. MS and Sony they think they innovate with super powered machines that still play the same types of games, the industry itself is drying on ideas simply because when you do change it up, people complain, dont change it up and people still complain about it being stale. Thats why I like Nintendo's approach of how we play them games.

Well actually I think you're not giving them enough credit really,
games like Uncharted (if you like that kind of game), Little Big Planet 2, Modnation Racers etc... all are what I would describe "amongst the best of their genre" always pushing it forward. It's not all black and white. What I PERSONALLY want is less gimicky consoles and more innovation in the games themselves. Like I said already, more game modes, more multiplayer etc... All that Nintendo has announced so far seems way beyond SOLID, thats good, but the only things (based on the facts we already know) that will try radically new things is maybe Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 - and thats a polished sequel.

I remember when there was Mario Kart the first time and everyone was like WOW what the hell?! People here in the forums are joking about a Mario FPS, but MAYBE, if pulled of right, it's time for things like that! ;)

All in all, if you're happy with what you're getting... AWESOME! ;) Im glad youre enjoying yourself (I don't mean this sarcastic in any way).

No regrets.

You think that only Nintendo innovates with their games and that other game companys' games are just the same thing all over again? You've not been playing non-Nintendo games or you've been letting the fact that your personal taste isn't in those genres that others makes games in seriously cloud your judgment. The idea that Nintendo are the only inovators in games is rediculous.
