Ok well I was playing ZombiU (class game) and my WiiU froze.

I did a reset and when it started to load it made a weird grind/pop noise and wouldnt start up!!!!!!
My gamepad turns on but is just a white screen!

I will be returning to the store I bought it from tomorrow but I know they have no stock and wont until xmas at least.
I will only get store credit also as I traded stuff in when buying

Not sure what ill do tbh but I might now hold off on the WiiU until next year

Enjoy your consoles guys and gals!

You should have sent it to Nintendo. They would either repair or replace your console.

Not going to wait tbh for Nintendo to sort it all out...at this stage id rather just hold off and avoid posting stuff etc

Reef a swap may be possible but unlikely in my area tbh
Ill find out for sure tmz

This. Your system is still under warranty and it doesn't sound like it was anything you did, just some sort of system failure. If you send it to Nintendo, they'll repair or replace it for free (most likely replace it, they probably are too busy to troubleshoot right now).

I haven't heard of anyone having this sort of problem in particular, so it probably was just bad luck. These things happen, especially with the first batch of a new system. It's exactly why warranties exist. Nintendo is fairly quick on return time for repairs/replacements, you could easily get it back before Christmas if you get it to them ASAP.

Btw ... when u say u reset it , do u mean u pulled the plug? If so i wouldnt say that to the store manager...even if that is nintendo advice on freezing issues. U may just get a jobsworth manager , so id say it just died as u were ' in play '. Just a thought.

That is your choice, I do understand your reasoning. Odds are, you won't get ANOTHER faulty one, though I can't promise that and do realize the frustration, when I first got my 360 I got the RROD a week after getting, returned it for another that was faulty right out of the box, and had to exchange it AGAIN. Granted, this was years after the 360 was released, they were not launch systems, but it was frustrating nonetheless.

But, if this is a software related problem, why some units freezes and some other not? An hardware problem can occour randomly, but a software problem should occour at the same way on all units sharing the same hardware :

It doesn't sound like a software problem, especially if there was a popping sound. I've worked with a lot of hardware and it's rare (though possible) that it's software... software still doesn't work that simple, when I was in game design we'd have literally more than billions of lines of code, it was so easy to randomly run into an error, try to trace it for over a week but never once find the error again with nobody else having the error. There's so much at play in the software, it really could only happen for some people, not all, not to mention software can be patched and it's fairly rare for software errors to cause serious problems. Either way, I'm fairly certain this sounds like hardware, and unrelated to the freezing that Nintendo is working on a patch for.
