Topic: My Questions About Wii U Before Purchasing

I have a few questions about Wii U before I purchase it (either this December or March 2013, so that I could save some money for some games, accessories, and the console itself and also to see what would be the upcoming games next year). And if I ever purchase it this would be my 1st home console in 14 years and the 3rd(I have the Famicom and PSX, then I got hooked in PC gaming, particularly MMORPGs, then went to portable consoles).

Can you customize the way the menu looks, like using a picture as a background?
What games would you recommend for me to buy?
Can you play movies via an usb device and if you can what would be the file format?
What games can you play via the tablet only?
What are the downsides of Wii U?
What are the glitches on the Wii U?
Is there already a fix on the bricking issue when you update the Wii U and suddenly turned it off?
Can you update the OS of the Wii U using an usb device?
Should I buy a Wii U or wait for the next-gen console of Sony or Microsoft?

MP4, but it's a long and unsupported process

What games can you play via the tablet only?

I don't think there is any, but there is Off-TV play for a ton of the games

What are the downsides of Wii U?

Nothing really, except that if you got a basic model and no games, you are going to be REALLLLLY bored.

What are the glitches on the Wii U?

-Crashing up if you rush into the friend list the moment the wii U starts, random crashed due to hardware, other problems. but these can be fixed by a system update

Is there already a fix on the bricking issue when you update the Wii U and suddenly turned it off?

-From what I hear, it didn't even exist in the first place, as one of NL's staff members had a problem during the update and it wasn't bothered one bit. But I imagine our current system update fixes it if it was a real problem.

Can you update the OS of the Wii U using an usb device?

Should I buy a Wii U or wait for the next-gen console of Sony or Microsoft?

Buy a Wii U, it will have better games and more fun indie titles in the long run.

I think you should keep on PC gaming and wait for a new microsoft console... I can't stop playing the WiiU it is a fanastic piece of kit that has been working great with absolutely zero problems. You decide for yourself.

The systems freezes are just because the system hasn't 'filled out it clothes yet' I think. The freezing only happened for me after going back to Nintendo Land constantly which made it freeze. I honestly think it was because of Miiverse, no ones console should freeze since the update. I just used different software and it cleared up on it own, before the update.

As for your ?s:
1. You can only do MP4 through the internet browser by typing in your IP adress to the computer I think...
2. No USB media support, except the actual storage on the USB.
3. I think ZombiU is the only game you can't play on just the gamepad.
4. I would get New Super Mario Bros. U as your first game, then AC3, COD, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden, COD, or Sonic as your next retail game. ZombiU is cool too, but I think the other games are better. The only benefit of ZombiU is that it is made for Wii U specifically using alot of features the console has to offer. It's really preference, but I don't like ZombiU as much as the other games.
4a. I would get Nano Assault Neo, or Mighty Switch Force as your eShop DLC game. Trine 2 if you don't have that on any other console yet.
5. There really is no downside in my opinion.
6. I would rather have Wii U than the other consoles right now, but that's really up to you. The Wii U is better on every front, it just needs support(IMO) The next PS/Xbox comes out in 1-2 years, and by then, the Wii U will have tons of exclusives, plus multiplatform games once devs have time to support Wii U in a good amount of time. The only games not true to their originals, are the sports game as of now pretty much.

• depends on what you're into. Check out metacritic. I've only got Nintendo Land and Nano Assault Neo... both were worth it

• About half of the NintendoLand games, all three of the co-op ones. Nano Assault Neo also allows it. Outside of what I own I know New SMB U, Assassin's Creed 3 and the Sonic Racing game allow it. I'm sure there are quite a few others, do some research and you'll find it out fairly quickly.
• Downsides? No Zelda, 3D Mario, Metroid, Mario Kart or Smash Bros and no VC on the GamePad yet
• Some people are experiencing some random freezing. Should be fixed with firmware updates.
• Don't turn the console off while updating the firmware. Same applies to any firmware update
• no but they'll probably put firmware updates in future games like they did with the Wii
• Depends. If you want to play Mario/Zelda/Metroid then you should get one...

IMHO Nintendoland, New Super Mario Bros U and Mass Effect 3.

no but you can move the tiles around on the gamepad and switch the veiw so they apear on the tv

theres a way but its only for mp4 and its unsupported netflix is awesome on it =D

you have to have the wii u plugged in but you can play mario and trine 2 just on the gamepad

non really its amazing maybe the fact you have to choose to either buy the disc or downloade it to your drive you cant burn the disc to the drive like xbox but its awesome you can choose at least i guese

i havent had any menu was a bit slow but the second update doubled the speed

If this is going to be your first console in 14 years and you don't plan on buying another console in the next few years. I would wait for the next PlayStation in my opinion. Since you like MMO Sony seem to have jumped on the MMO free to play wagon. There are a few available for the PS3 at the moment like DC Universe Online and Free Realms and Dust 514. I can only see them continuing to bring free to play games to the PlayStation brand so like I said in my opinion you may as well wait for the next PlayStation.

That was for research purposes. It'd wouldn't be good not to know what your competitors offered on their consoles if you are in that biz. What I intended was for OP to wait for the new home consoles by Sony and Microsoft. Then you can compare features and see which you'd like better. There also might be a WiiU price drop when those are released to make it more appealing. I wouldn't get a WiiU then get stuck with crappy kiddy games while PS4 gets all the good RPGs and hardcore games. just wait it out, OP.
