I've seen speculation here about HD re-releases of Mario 64, Sunshine, and both Galaxies. These ideas were intensified when these rumors started floating around of a big 2015 remake in the works. I don't think any of the 3d Marios work by themselves, but all, or maybe 3 of the 4, would be great. I think Nintendo is very happy with WWHD, and naturally they'd take the same treatment to their #1 man, Mario. I'd feel more comfortable saying it would be a trilogy, but I'm having a hard time deciding if they'd leave our Sunshine or Galaxy 2. It'd be odd to redo 1 but not 2.
Anyway, do you agree that this could be plausible? If not, do you not agree with the 2015 remake project's existence at all, or do you just feel Nintendo will go a different route with a different series?
How much of the Sunshine depends on the analog nature of the analog triggers - that is, would they work with Wii U's digital triggers?
Quite a lot, it doesn't affect the general walking / jumping and whatnot, but it is essential in controlling FLUDD. Although I presume they could find a way to make the game playable with digital triggers, it will make a big difference in how you control FLUDD. The NGC's analog trigger functions were very intuitive in Super Mario Sunshine, for that reason alone, I don't think we'll see a VC release, or a remaster of that game anytime soon.
Really, all we need for fludd is a two-setting option for "normal pressure" and "full pressure". Like pushing both shoulder triggers for full and just one for normal.
I can't remember any single time in Sunshine where I needed a small stream of water or anything in between, it was just a normal constant thing or a big splash of water.
They could even make it so the pressure is controlled via a bar on the touchscreen or the second stick. Or stuff.
Would be pretty cool for me bc I haven't played any of these, but I don't think this is what Nintendo needs. they need to follow up E3 with something like they did last year.
In recent history Nintendo haven't been that generous with their remakes. We'd most likely get one game, maybe both Galaxies in one.
But I don't see us getting a Mario remake. Maybe F Zero. Miyamoto said 64 3D was used to gauge interest in a new Starfox title, so maybe that would be the case here.

If they're pandering to "core" fans like they say they are then F-Zero GX (with online if they're smart) is probably the most likely choice. It appeases the F-Zero fanboys who'll take anything at this point and it opens up the series a ton of people already played the homage in Nintendo Land. Mario HD would potentially have more selling power, but it wouldn't improve their image with the "Not another Mario game" crowd.
I'm totally ready to be surprised though, but my money's on F-Zero GX HD.
Nintendo isn't very good about HD Remakes. If they remade them, it would be one game, at full price instead of multiple games at a lesser price.
Well, and in a way this. F-Zero GX HD would be a significant upgrade if they could do that speed at 60FPS online (.Maybe...). Games like WW HD, FFX HD, or Persona 4 G are pretty much the same experience...with a bloated price tag and an already rabid fanboy following to inflate how "amazing" they are.
Personally, I'd want a Mario 64 DS style remake of Mario Sunshine rather than a HD collection style one, cause the game's problems (as few as they are) could be overcome better with level design changes and new mechanics rather than minor tweaks and fixes.
But as for the topic... I'm not sure they'd make something like this. Galaxy 1 and 2 are good enough that a HD remaster or whatever would just be a shiny coat of paint over a game which didn't need much improvement. A collection like this would just come across as a bit lazy...

Well FFX was 2 games and launched at $40 (iirc), so $20 per game. Compare that to Wind Waker HD which launched at $60 and was only one game.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
Even running unchanged via a Virtual Console release rather than a full fledged HD remastering, it would be a trivial matter to map the two stage FLUDD trigger to both shoulder buttons.

It could only really be X or GX, really. 60FPS online would be great to see.
I'd buy it, as I've only played F Zero and Maximum Velocity. Hopefully we at least get X on VC.
F-Zero X would have to be redone from the ground up thanks to its basic visuals back in the day to run at 60 FPS. If they went to all that effort, I'd much rather see a new sequel.
The only viable F-Zero content for an easy HD remastering, as I see it, is F-Zero GX. But with its still beautiful graphics, the sense of speed that would minimize the benefits of the HD upgrade, and being one of the rare 16:9 enabled Nintendo published GCN releases, I'd be happy just to see it be released unchanged as a download.
Even if that was an issue (which it isn't), nobody is ever going to release a digital and/or a retail Wii U release that actually requires the use of the GameCube adapter.
Would be nice to see it supported as an option if Super Mario Sunshine was ever rereleased. But thankfully, GCN gamepad support is in no way, shape, or form necessary for it to happen in the unlikely event that it's rereleased.
