Pikmin 3 is by far the best Pikmin 3 game yet. I liked Pikmin 1, loved Pikmin 2, and absolutely adore Pikmin 3. Just beat it right now (like 27 days)...I plan to keep replaying it to become more efficient!

And then Pikmin 3: Olimar Returns. Pikmin 4 will then be an MMO...I guess that's the joke...

These Pikmin had their dreams crushed today...literally

The first time this happened I was not recording, but it killed ALL 100 at once! I tried to reproduce the incident again for the video but it left 15 survivors the second time around

This post was started as a joke, I assume. For anyone that complains that much, step away from video games, grab a newspaper and realize there's a lot of other things to complain about. Unbelievable.

quite a few years back when Pikmin 2 came out with multiplayer (versus missions only) i thought co-op must be really great for this kind of game. Pikmin 2 was no doubt amazing enough in single player, and I hope Pikmin 3 is just as good, so co-op maybe next time, hopefully in Pikmin 4.

I thought it was a little strange for Nintendo Land to turn singleplayer games (Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin) into multiplayer games and multiplayer games (F-Zero, Balloon Fight) into singleplayer games. This and quite different gameplay styles to the original games certainly added a bit of confusion to some.

But it shouldn't come as a surprise as Nintendo Land was knowingly produced to demonstrate the unique and new Wii U features, especially the Wii U GamePad and examples of asymetric multiplayer.

You do realize this is a Nintendo gaming forum right? Where people come primarily to talk about Nintendo games? Users having occasional rants or discussions shouldn't really be surprisng.

I guess you're right. But sometimes, complaining that extensively for a game that seems to have alot of features seems overblown.

True; in this case the OP just happened to (unfortunately) assume that the main series played similarly to the mini-game from Nintendoland. To be fair it brings up a legitimate point about what these mini-games are actually representing from their franchises, but it should be noted to anyone who has played Nintendoland that those games don't represent the gameplay of that franchise as a whole - including the emphasis on multiplayer.

Hello again everyone! It's nice to see such great perspectives on the game. Looks like everyone is having a great time with the game, which is great to see. For the record, I still plan on giving this game a chance through rental. Many of you have driven the point home about the niche that is Pikmin. I think this point raises a strong argument for leaving the game's main functionality as single player. I'm a stong believer of 'if it's not broken don't fix it'. Many times in a long running series the developers seem to forget this simple rule and end up ruining a large portion of a game with attempts at innovation.

That being said, allow me to ask those of you who have played both Pikmin 3 and the Nintendo Land version: How do you feel the game would be impacted to allow someone to merely control one of the main player's pikmin? Would this ruin the strategy of the game and if so how?

I have played the original Pikmin, and I think at least a few minutes of Pikmin 2 at a buddy's house. For me, the general premise of the game felt largely intact on the Nintendo Land version. Yes I realize the game was largely dumbed down and did not include a large emphasis on strategy. I would venture to argue that even if the game did have the elongated elements included in the full release versions, the coop functionality would not detract from this. Also, I don't remember the player controlled pikmin to gain additional strength, but nonetheless let's assume this is not the case if it were to be added to Pikmin 3.

Lastly, I don't make my posts long because this game (or any game for that matter) takes up such a huge part of my life, but rather to ensure I am as clear as possible with my points (regardless of if I achieve this or not lol). I don't feel for a AAA title such as this, if I had only come on here and stated something simple such as 'omg no coop #$%^ this game' that I would have been received very well.

At any rate, keep the opinions coming. Healthy discussions such as these can only improve the games we love in the future, which is my intention from the beginning. Keep on keepin' on fellow gamers and have a great day!

I see what you're saying and I'm kind of in your boat, as well. My girlfriend LOVES playing the Pikmin game on NintendoLand with me, and I see no reason whatsoever that adding in that sort of control to Pikmin 3 would ruin the gameplay experience. If purists would be so up-in-arms about this sort of thing, it could be added as a totally separate mode that they don't even need to touch if they absolutely don't want to. Having that sort of two-player functionality would be wicked fun, plain and simple. And Nintendo is all about fun and creating different multiplayer experiences!

The problem with having someone play as a Pikmin is that the Pikmin in Nintendo Land are so much stronger since there are only like 7 compared to the actual games where up to 100 at once can attack.

I don't think making one player control the Pikmin would make sense, but since this game was rumored not long after Pikmin 2's release I was thinking it would be co-op with one player as Louie, and one as Olimar, or in this case one as Alph, one as Brittany. I feel like it was a real missed opportunity. It feels even more like it should have been co-op when you play the co-op missions.

I thought Nintendo Land's Pikmin minigame was way too simplistic and it didn't offer as much fun as other multiplayer minigames in Nintendo Land. In Pikmin 3 I just started single player story mode yesterday. I had no need to start it earlier since I've had so much fun with multiplayer mode. I've played multiplayer almost every day since Pikmin 3 was released in Europe (26.7) 1-2 hours a day and although it doesn't have that many levels I still have things to do and fun to have. I think Pikmin 3's multiplayer is superior to Nintendo Land's Pikmin minigame and in addition it has great single player mode too. Don't judge a book (or a game) by its cover. You can't really have a true opinion before you actually play the game. I'd appreciate your opinion if it was based on something else than just a hunch that you wouldn't enjoy the game.

It's its, not it's.

By that logic, Zelda U should be like Battle Quest, Metroid U should be like Metroid Blast, DK should be like Crash Course, etc...

These are minigames loosely based off retail games, NOT the actual games.

I did not read all comments so I might be repeating what others have said.
As far as I know, the first two Pikmin games did not have multiplayer (other than versus mode or something). That Nintendo Land, a party game, adds multiplayer to a Pikmin-themed minigame is hardly an indicator for how the next Pikmin game will be like. It would have been a better idea to look at Pikmin 1 and 2 to get an indication. If you're interested in any other franchise from Nintendo Land, do check out the original games
