W101, Nintendoland (it may not have had the runaway success of wii sports but the game was well done), I would also say pikmin 3; its been done before but i think this was "the third time is the charm" entry.

Although I think we're in for some more unique games next year; Captain Toad, Project Guard, Project Robot. Whilst not the first to invent their genres, they're an unique take on what has been done before.
Out of the unmentioned ones, I really liked "Gamer" from Game & Wario, even though it's just a minigame. There are two actions going on on the two screens: on the GamePad you have a regular WarioWare match with all the microgames, while on the TV there's a shot of your bedroom - your mother will continuously try to sneak in to see if you're still awake playing games, and you have to "hide" the GamePad before she catches you.
I thought having two different actions on two separate screens at the same time was stupid, but Nintendo clearly proved me wrong, that minigame is wicked.
Also, Little Inferno and Scram Kitty and His Buddies on Rails are highly original - definitely something I have never played before.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

I absolutely agree about Scram Kitty. It's quite unique, innovative and well-designed.
I only have Little Inferno on the iPad. What features are unique to the Wii U version?
Even though it can be played with the pro controller (which I did) the concept and design is so unique.
Zombi-U had good use of the gamepad to add tension to the experience, but lets face it, it's still pretty much your standard FPS game. Overall, its not very innovative.
Wonderful 101. I've never played a game like Wonderful 101 and I think that would be true even if I played more of Platinum's games.
Rayman Legends also deserves some credit for taking full advantage of the Wii U features without making a minigame game. ZombiU as well.
your kinda right i also have never played a game like w101 although if your familiar with platinum's games it really is like a mash of bayonetta and okami. although when combined it really stands out on its own.
@beetlejuice did it not annoy you having to swap the pro controller for the gamepad during the gamepad only sections?
