Topic: MK8 playable demo in Target - all day, every day

I don't normally think a demo of a game deserves it's own forum entry, but since Nintendo and Gamestop seem to make such a big deal about these things I wanted to let people know my Target had the demo playable as of Friday morning. The clerk even said they "got it in late" which I'm assuming meant most other Targets already had it. The game had about 10 different tracks but NO online. All characters - including some random Miis - were available, as was kart customization. Two player was a highlighted option but my Target only has the 1 Gamepad hooked up.

So for all those who can't or won't buy it today at least you can go try it out. And if you do decide to buy it while you are there don't forget your FREE $9.99 Wii U wheel.

Yes, but is Target still selling Wii Mini's?

I know that's supposed to be a dig, but you made me laugh. I don't think I looked today, was too excited to pick up my game and wheel, and then play the demo since I can't play the game until tonight, but there were 3 last time I checked next to the 1 Wii U box. I wanted to check today also for the MK8 bundles but I forgot that was well. Funny as the Wii U wheels were hanging directly over the boxes, but I got distracted by the big red "Free w/ game purchase" sign, and here were only 2 wheels left, and I couldn't find the game anywhere. Nor a salesclerk.

I think I should go back and take a picture of the Wii Mini red boxes w/ MKWii next to the MK8 bundle box b/c they really do look similar.

BTW I bought my nephew MKWii last month for his birthday, my B-i-L wouldn't let me get him Skylanders like I wanted. $40 for a real old game, today officially obsolete. Or maybe it's been obsolete since they turned off online? I should ask them if they play it.

Clerks must have thought you were crazy, buying the game and then instead of heading home, staying there to play the demo. Thankfully you did not seem to find any clerk.

I hope you and your family enjoys it. I guess I will be playing mine a week from now. I was very tempted to get it off the eShop, but decided to went with the physical copy, as a couple of friends want it too and they are getting all three copies together.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

@rjejr: I'm glad you took it as a joke, it was meant to be. I may not always agree with you but you always have a well thought out opinion! Also, I can't believe they are still selling Wii's and that was a cool gift for an Uncle.

In all seriousness, thanks for letting me now that Target now has these. I'll have to keep my eyes open next time I'm at Target.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I completely disagree. I played the demo at Best Buy today. MK Wii still has the best mechanics in the series, and the presence of motion control in the Wii Remote+Nunchuck configuration for Wheelies and Tricks (NOT THE WII WHEEL) really upped the immersion. I'd also argue MK Wii has some of the best track design in the series (Koopa Cape, Mushroom Gorge, Coconut Mall, Grumble Volcano, and Toad's Factory just to name a few), and from what the reviews say, a better battle mode. I do wish I had online still, but that game is still enjoyable without it.

I was wondering why I got a wheel with my purchase this morning. That is a Target only thing I guess? I didn't know I was supposed to get one until I bought it. I had pre-ordered and got a Kart keychain and $5 gift card, saved 5% with my redcard but unfortunately couldn't find my other 5% off coupon or I could have saved even more.

I usually buy new games at Target for the savings but the return policy sucks.....

Is that wheel thing only today if you buy the game? I didn't preorder at target.

2 days, Friday and Saturday, based on the conjunction of the game coming out on a Friday and the retailer weekly ads running Sundays thru Saturdays. Target doesn't really do pe-orders, just those $5 GC that you purchase for $1 but they don't take your name or anything. I wish I had kept mine, cool picture on the front, but the clerk dumped it in the trash. I used the $5 GC on $5.49 B1G1 frozen Digiorno pizzas, I'm going to eat one right now.
