Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

I'm not sure I'll get the second GamePad if it will be expensive. As for e3, I hope Nintendo will leave some surprises

I don't know what they could do with NFC besides make more stuff for us to spend money on, which doesn't really seem like all that attractive of a feature...

I am very interested to see what they come up with as far as two gamepads goes.

I'm getting a 2nd gamepad for sure, when it's supported/available.
The NFC chip will be cool when it's used. I just wonder what they will use it for on the Wii U more so.
The Spyro Skylander games probably could have technically used it. Then people would be buying WAY more figures and games without having to worry about getting the newest portal in the box.
Maybe the Disney game will use it. Who knows, but it definitely has alot of potential.

A gamepad is $130 right now...and I already blew off all my money buying four wii remotes/four nunchucks and a Wii U, so I don't think I'll be getting one until the price drops, but then again I could always just have a friend with another gamepad come over!

providing it isnt a hassle to relink back to his/her console or getting it to work on any other console once registered for that matter.

I bet his new IP will be some kind of 'Skylanders-thingy'.

I'm just hoping that they'll leave SSB4 out of the NFC craze. Don't want to buy figurines for that game.

Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

Don't you just have to press the sync button on the console and on the back of the gamepad, like a Wii remote? Except you have to tap the card suits. I haven't tried syncing my gamepad to another Wii U yet so I don't know what would happen if I tried

honestly i can see games that rely alot on NFC being cheap or free to play. especially if its a nintendo game.

put it on.

I wouldn't be sure of that.

Imagine SSB, it's a series they know people love and will buy. Then they release all the characters as NFC figurines, and people will buy those as well. It's practically a gold mine.

i probably won't ever end up using NFC. big games like Disney Infinity won't be using it (which makes no sense to me), when that could be one of the most appropriate times to use it!

Can you remember that card reader thing for the GameCube and the Animal Crossing cards?

Skylanders and the new Disney Infinity game use the same concept. Nintendo may be able to make cards or cool figures that can be put into the game. Maybe Club Nintendo rewards could have NFC, or sell little action figures that give you a nice bonus in the game. It's not really ideal to say you need the products to enjoy a current one, so I'm sure Nintendo's working out a way to make products, affordable, available, and useful but not required. Notice they say in the eShop, 'these products may enhance your playing experience', or something along those lines. It's mainly a suggestion.

except a number if us would be very angry not buy it. It would also be a really inconvient to keep a bunch of figures to play a fighting game which just turns me off to the idea even more than I already was which was quite a lot.

Skylanders and Disney Infinity, while not necessarily bad games, try to argue you don't need to buy extra figurines and technically you don't but the experience is rather bare without them. No one gets the games without ever purchasing extra figurines, and it ends up being a huge money drain because the game content becomes horrendously overpriced. I don't think this has to be the case, I'm sure there are more consumer friendly models to include NFC and I hope Nintendo finds one. Skylanders got lucky (probably because they tried it first) and Disney has so many beloved characters that it could work for them, but I doubt this type of model (selling dozens of $10-$15 figurines for a $60+ game) would flourish if many games start trying this, especially in our current economical state. No one can afford to spend hundreds on every game or would be interested in paying $60 for a game that is bare without the extra figurines. Games like Pokemon and Smash Bros would encouraging collecting large numbers of these figurines so expecting $10 a figurine is ridiculous for those titles, it could severely damage the fanbase. Pokemon might get away with it if the figurines are much cheaper or they choose to use cards (online trading card games could benefit from NFC). I simply doubt the industry could support more than a few franchises that rely on NFC the way Skylanders and Disney Infinity do, and I would like to hope Nintendo's executives realize this. I'm not saying they have to avoid NFC, they just need to handle it differently than Activision. It's easy to think this idea will print money but in reality the market won't support many of these types of games and the ones that fail... Well, that's a huge investment to lose, a failed game costs developers enough money without them paying to produce millions of plastic figurines that most end up sitting on store shelves (it does cost money to design them and make molds for them all). Skylanders will have three games (not including mobile games) for their figurines to support by year's end, and Disney... Well, they're Disney, one look into a gift shop at Disney World shows how much they can successfully sell overpriced collectables. It would be hard to go into direct competition with these two titans.

I think a Free-to-Play MMORPG could pull off NFC well. You go out and buy weapons, armor, and spells which are actual figurines. You build your character based on what Figurines you have and can play a lot of the game as that one character. Loot would be more food and quest based. A online store could also have an auction house where people can sell and trade their figurines. The company that does this (Nintendo for this Thread) would take a small cut of auction sales. This would print money. To play people would have to buy at least 1 figure which opens it up to almost anyone... just my idea thrown out there.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The Pokèmon and Yu-Gi-Oh! TCGs could really benefit from this.

I think this is a good starting idea, but it seems like if we are actually buying weapons and armor, why not just buy the best ones? It seems like it takes away a part of most RPGs, earning good to buy better weapons and armor, with certain weapons and armor only being obtainable later in the game. And do the weapons and armor have level or stat requirements to equip? You might spend money on things you can't equip or that become obsolete, and players with more money to buy more figurines have a clear advantage instead of simply getting more content or different experiences. Nonetheless, I do love the MMO idea if done right. Like, if buying a bow figurine unlocks the ability to equip a bow, or buying a necromancer figurine unlocks the necromancer class. Even having figurines to unlock familiars, as long as the purchase doesn't affect progression or balancing.

@ShadJV
This MMO would need to be designed differently then your normal MMO. Have it be more about player interaction and less about leveling up. I personally don't play many MMOs because I get sick of grinding my level just to be able to complete the next quest. Skylanders does limited edition pieces fine which could play into "Rare" equipment. The problem with any of these NFC type games is the same problem with Freeimum games, people with more money will be able to get the more expensive(best) equipment.
