Topic: Miiverse user icon

This is my first post on the forums here, though I've been viewing Nintendo Life for several months. Anyway, I bought my wife and I a Wii U for Christmas, but I've been having a strange (albeit not serious) issue with Miiverse. I can post and use all the features, but my user icon always shows up as a question mark. I've scoured the internet for answers and it seems others have had the issue but found no real fix. Does anybody have any idea why it remains as a question mark? Some "answers" I have seen relate to internet connection issues, though I can't imagine that being the real culprit. I can load Miiverse on my computer and my Mii shows up there just fine, though on the console and gamepad it remains a sad little "?" Any help is appreciated!

I've had this problem from launch day. What's more, this topic in GameFaqs doesn't even address the issue, let alone solve it.

I even tried using a different Mii, and while it displays a Mii if I didn't create it, any of my created Miis (including my brother's) just doesn't show up.

This applies to both the Wii U and the 3DS, but not the browser version

Actually that thread does answer it. It's just that sometimes it doesn't load properly. It used to happen a lot before some of the more recent system updates. Just be patient and it'll work itself out. Not that big a deal, the time it takes to load is more annoying.

For the 14 months I've owned the Wii U, I have never had my mii show up in miiverse, from the very first day I booted it up to last Sunday when I completed Earthbound.

So if it was the case that "sometimes it doesn't load properly", I'd have at least seen mymii avatar once.

I'm confident, at least, that my avatar shows up for everyone else because I've very rarely seen (in fact, I don't think I've ever seen) someone else's avatar not load up properly.

@skywake have you ever experienced this? Your avatar appearing as a question mark or seeing someone else's appear as a question mark?

If you use the internet browser often, try deleting the cookies and internet data, in the internet settings.

It has only happened once or twice for me.

Tried it and it didn't seem to do anything. I did, however, go into my user settings and allow copying of my mii. It seemed to make Miiverse think about loading it for a few seconds but turned out to be another question block. I decided to go ahead and e-mail Nintendo to see what a rep might say.

Do you have port forwarding or anything going on in your internet router?

I can't think of any port that I've specifically forwarded.

Happened to me about 90% of the time early in the piece and then seemed to be stuck on it for a few days. Then since the major update that boosted performance it only happens maybe 5% of the time or less. Actually I don't think it's happened to me for a long while but I don't tend to view MiiVerse on the Wii U anyways.

Either way it just tended to resolve itself in the end before happening again later. Not that big a deal all things considered.
