Topic: Miiverse Is Officially Coming to an End

So I just posted this comment on Alex's Miiverse-related YouTube video. Thought I'd share it here since it sums up my thoughts on why the service is needed.

For me, Miiverse was a community that was not only gamer-centric, but Nintendo-centric. Most people on there had a shared interest so it was a lot more friendly than other online communities. I've tried posting my interesting screenshots from my Switch to Twitter or Facebook, but it's just not the same. On Twitter I mostly get a bunch of spam "likes" while on FB a small subset of my friends are gamers so I get limited discussion (besides the fact that I don't want to flood my non-gamer friends' feeds with stuff they don't care about).

The nice thing about Miiverse is that you could post a question or issue you were having and you'd get some pretty quick feedback (at least in its heyday). It's like GameFAQs, but faster.

In the past, I've used gamer-centric websites (e.g. Playfire, Raptr, NL forums, etc.) to chat about my hobby. Those sites are great to get that shared community, but they don't seem to be as regulated and they don't have the ability to just post directly from the console. Now if in the future Nintendo provided a way to post directly to some gaming-based social network like Playfire, then I'd be completely onboard! But as it stands, I feel that our options are pretty limited unless you are well-connected with like-minded people on social media.

Am I alone in this?

Miiverse was a great community and place to share our Nintendo love.

But it wasn't just that, it really enhanced games and made them better!

I gave plenty of examples earlier how Miiverse enhanced the Wii U version of Resident Evil Revelations with it's death notes that did make me laugh out loud, or with Affordable Space Adventure's user-created crazy meta-ending that I will never forget!

These precious Wii U games exclusive features will be lost coming this November.

I also thought Miiverse is like the best achievement system compared to Steam and the other consoles. You could just show what you achieved and share! Simple! Thousand times better than an icon medal and a score.

Super Mario Maker will suffer immensely... i like seeing the Miiverse posts pop up giving clues, drawings, messgaes, etc just for that game alone.
This makes very depress😕

So Wind Waker HD will also lose the Tingle Bottle functionality. It was a close call, but the GameCube version is now the definitive version again.

Nice that they have details on Super Mario Maker and Tipping Stars, but the rest is just a list without any detailed information.
Glad to see Super Mario Maker getting an update, but Tipping Stars should also get one.

For anyone that has not beaten Affordable Space Adventures yet, you should do it before Miiverse ends, because Miiverse is absolutely required to see the (real) ending.

Miiverse also impacts Game & Wario more than just slightly. It will lose a bunch of minigames!!

It affects main features in the Art Academy series as well.

This is really crappy of Nintendo. They should continue the service for another year at least. I doubt its upkeep is breaking the bank. The list of games affected is very long.

Oh, yeah, with Wind Waker HD it would have been so great to have the Tingleceiver on the GamePad (you need a Game Boy Advance and a GBA Gamecube Link Cable to unlock it in the original version). That would have been so awesome. What a huge missed opportunity! But they stripped it away in favour of the Tingle Bottles that now get stripped away as well.

A note on the Tingle Bottles:
In Wind Waker and Wind Waker HD you can take photos - and you have to take photos of every enemy type and NPC in the game to have the game 100% completed. Some of the enemies and NPCs, in particular bosses and minibosses, are missable one-timers. In Wind Waker HD though, you could still receive pictures of the missable enemies via the Tingle Bottles, so even if you screwed up and missed an elusive one-time enemy, there was a good chance to still get it just by collecting Tingle Bottles and checking the attached pictures on them. This won't be possible anymore with the shutdown of Miiverse.

... You do know that the tingle tuner is also completely useless for like 98% of the people playing the original, right?

@Meowpheel For some I guess, but at least you can still make it work!

The fact that you can still hold up to 12 pictures and have them all made into figurines at the same time puts the HD remake miles above the original, even without the bottles.

For missable pictures, both versions allow you yo carry your figurine collection over to subsequent playthroughs.

@Tsurii Hehe, don't worry

I like both equally, but I still prefer the cel shading of the original. The gradient style lighting system caused the HD remaster to lose some of its charm.

I hate the Triforce quest in the original but find it tolerable in the HD remaster. That's the main reason I prefer the HD remaster.

Nintendo should've at least waited until late 2018 before closing Miiverse if not keeping it up as long as the 3DS and Wii U online services are still up. My reason for disliking the sudden Miiverse closure is different than alot of other Miiverse users. Miiverse itself was flawed and I even think it's for the better that the Switch doesn't have it, but alot of Wii U and 3DS games heavily rely on Miiverse, and taking away features before the Switch picks up only hurts Nintendo's reputation, especially with the Switch also still having shortage problems, it will only turn people to non-Nintendo products for gaming instead of making people go for a Switch. They're not even removing the Miiverse icon on the menu from the Wii U (this one is understandable since's it's finished anyways) or the still alive and kicking 3DS.

What concerns me is this isnt just Miiverse shutting down, the Wii U Chat feature no one used, Youtube uploading, MK8 tournaments, and even an online feature for Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon got the axe. I wonder if anything else will soon be up for the chop. While I don't think the eShops will shut down anytime soon since they still earn money, that does leave online gaming (Which won't be the same as Wii and DS servers shutting down since that was because of GameSpy but the ball's in Nintendo's court as to when it decides to shut them down) and quite possible the Wii Shop Channel which still lives to this day but for how much longer?

Well after not coming to the Switch it was only a matter of time before it closed. A little earlier than expected but best just to accept it and move on with your lives.

I'm sure you'll survive without it.

As much as I hated hearing that Nintendo was doing this, my initial thought was that it's no surprise since they didn't bring it to the Switch. But the more I consider it, the more I think Nintendo should have put more thought into this decision. This will affect a lot of people and a lot of systems in place with their various games.

Off-topic: I got some Streetpasses when traveling this weekend and was reminded how much I wish they had migrated it over to the Switch since it will almost definitely die when the 3DS is discontinued. It's crazy how few people these days use it as well. When I was on the puzzle game, only one or two people had pieces, but I passed around 17 people. My assumption is that on new 3DSes they no longer have something that prompts people to get it set up from the beginning.

A new Miiverse community titled Everybody's Message Community has just been opened. If you make a hand-drawn post about Miiverse here before October 11th, it may be included in an official collage. It's nice to see such a gesture from the staff, although the fact that the posts don't allow comments suggests someone really didn't want to add more moderation workload (supporting my theory as to why Miiverse is being done away with).
