Personally, I can't play normal chess anymore after playing kung fu chess! That game is long gone now, but luckily someone remade it and called it Tempest Chess (just Google it)
It's basically chess without turns. You can move any piece whenever you want, which calls for deep strategy as WELL as quick reflexes. There's also a four way mode you can play which is just INSANE. I always have a blast playing that with my friends (especially at school when we're all yelling and the teachers get pissed off at us), but now normal chess is just so BORING now!
If we were to see a chess game on the eShop, I would REALLY hope to see something like that. Unlikely, but it would make me very happy. I'm pretty sure the gamepad supports HTML 5 though (correct me if I'm wrong), so you can probably play some sort of online chess through the Internet browser if it doesn't use flash or something
a) chessboard IRL
b) a Miiverse friend who also has a chessboard IRL
c) knowledge of chess notation
That's it. Choose who is white and black and start exchanging your moves with one another via Miiverse messages making sure to move the correct pieces on the board in accordance w/ whatever move is notated.
If you don't understand chess notation, just go to YouTube and do a search for it. There are videos describing it.
@bezerker99 I completely forgot about notations! However, all it takes is one mistake for someone to say, "I took your queen" and the other guy says "My queen wasn't there".

Still the best option though.
I would recommend recording each move on paper. When I played chess this way with SwapNote, I would always take a picture of the board along with my move and then SEND it on.
I enjoy chess quite a bit. I go through phases where I'll play it a lot, then burn out. I never got super good, but I can usually hold my own. I haven't played it in a while...I really should.

I played this a lot for a little while. Very addictive.
Ever look up youtube videos of expert players playing Tempest chess? It's incredible.

This seems like a lot of work, sending notes back and forth. Why not just send one note confirming a time to play and meet up on Yahoo or somewhere else where online chess is free?
@MetallicDonkey - Yes, that would be the "ideal" way to play chess online. When I read the topic, I thought it was about how to play chess in a more "gimmicky" way via Miiverse messages. >.<
The chess app is on its way to WiiU eShop and we didn't have to wait long! These guys make some cool digital chess sets check em out and let the hype swell!
Yeah sure. I'd like to play some chess. I'm no good at it because, well, I never played it. So this could be the chance I need to learn how to play and master it.
