I don't know about anyone else, but I just love having a talented voice actress limited to grunts. I really got to appreciate Retro Studios for really taking advantage of their opportunity working with a talented voice actress like Jennifer Hale.

No. If you want to play Dead Space, play Dead Space. Let Metroid be Metroid. I'm not against Metroid having Horror-esqe aspects to it (my favorite Metroid is Prime 2), but jumpscares, zombies, and such are the cheapest and easiest methods of horror, unlike using atmospheric techniques to unnerve the player without an actual release of tension, although there won't be anything either. I wouldn't mind competitive multiplayer as a separate game mode, but co-op is directly opposed to Metroid's traditions. Here's what I'm looking for in the next Metroid.

Single Player:

  • Overworld level design similar to Metroid Prime and Super Metroid
  • World feels alien, various locales, no generic fire/ice/plant areas (think of the originality of some of the worlds in Prime 3 and Aether in Prime 2)
  • difficulty similar to or harder than Prime 2's (unlikely, but wanted)
  • pacing comparable to Prime 3, but still exploration focused
  • strong enemy AI, unique/complex enemies

Multiplayer:

  • Metroid Prime Hunters but better I guess

I want two metroid games announced at E3. The first being a 3D FPS taking place after fusion and being note alien but keeping a lot of the other hunter and Galatic federation stuff from Prime 3.

The 2nd is a 2D remake of Metroid II for 3DS.

WAT!

Only if it's a full Zero Mission-like remake. Except less pathetically easy of course.

I wouldn't mind it being a little easier lol

I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Easier than 2, yes but Zero Mission was way too easy, and that was its biggest problem. That Ridley fight was embarrassing.

I'd prefer something that plays like a Prime 4 (not necessarily a storyline sequel to Prime 3, but has the same gameplay style). It would use the Gamepad for the usual map/menu stuff, but also for visor control (examples: point the Gamepad at a target to scan targets, use the Gamepad to control Samus' ship with the Command Visor). I'd also like to see multiple characters, but done in a way that still keeps that "lonely" feel. Sonic Adventure 1's structure would be a good way to go about doing that, each character would have their own storyline and would either battle each other or just not interact much (maybe they have different missions and don't really care to ask for each others' help). Lastly, there needs to be a Prime 2 style multiplayer, now with the ability to battle with people online and asymmetric multiplayer mechanics.

  • Prime's storytelling was very good, especially 3. It took a less-is-more approach to it and allowed the player to dig through scans and memos to unravel the backstory on their own. There was no need for long monologues and Samus's awkward insecurity issues.
  • In terms of gameplay, I love what Other M tried to do. It wasn't a flawless execution, but it was a successful experiment that could be tweaked and perfected. At any rate, I'll take 2.5D 3rd person over another FPS game.
  • Return to Super Metroid in terms of isolation and atmosphere. Maybe even ramp it up a bit. Not a full on horror game, but something deep and psychological.

The idea of having some sort of codex that is narrated briefly by Samus like @I-U suggested could be neat, as long as the voice is good. If they got Jennifer Hale back, that'd be awesome (of course, for a while I'd probably think female Commander Shepard was talking instead of Samus). Other than maybe narrating a codex/journal/mission log, Samus doesn't need to speak. She doesn't need dialogue.

I liked having the story kind of told through scanning as well. I thought that was an interesting aspect of the Prime games. The game told the story without needing massive narrated cutscenes.

I'd like to see something like Super Metroid/Fusion 2 on 3DS and a Prime 4 on Wii U. They don't have to be sequels to those games, but rather in a similar style.

Just give me Metroid in the same vein as the Prime series on the Wii U.

Online multiplayer is a must, but not too many people. 4 players like Metroid Prime Hunters or 6 like Kid Icarus Uprising.

As for a voiced Samus, I enjoy Metroid: Other M very much. Her voice wasn't bad. In my opinion, the only bad thing about the game is Adam restricting your stuff. Definitely need another...whatever D that game was...(2.7849D?), but on 3DS. A voiced Samus wouldn't be bad, just different.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I personally would prefer a 2D metroid on the 3DS more than a Prime (FPS) or Other M (2.5 D 3rd person).

Fusion and Zero Mission were great. The Metroidvania on GBA and DS were great from Konami.

Why can't we get that on 3DS? LORDSOFSHADOWMIRROROFFATE2 is a 2.5D wanna be GOW game....Order of Ecclesia is an excellent game as was Portrait of Ruin and Dawn of Sorrow. Metroid should have been on the DS in this classic form instead of just Pinball and Hunters. Metroid and Castlevania should be on the 3DS in this classic form too.

A Link Between Worlds was such a great game going back to it's roots and playing like an old SNES but updated......it was freaking home run. I want a game like that for the Metroid series......heck I will even take a Remake Zero Mission style for the Return of Samus, that would be great it they updated that game for 3DS.

Prime....well the first was amazing but never finished it, Echoes I havent tried yet, Corruption was freaking awesome but it wasn't a big seller and it streamlined some things that makes it hard for me to go back to Prime and Echoes. These games didn't sell well, and neither did Other M. The Metroid Franchise is not healthy and I fully think resurrecting it on 3DS makes the most sense by far. Pump out 2 of them like they did on GBA and then send Konami a nasty letter to get them to make 3 real Castlevania games for 3DS.

^ I like a lot of what this guy is saying.

Like others have said, it just wouldn't feel like a Metroid game with a horror story to me.

And I just want a 2D Metroid game. I'm really not a fan of Metroid Prime. Other M was a lot better than Prime to me, but I will still always take a 2D platforming Metroid over anything.

I would prefer a new metroid ala Other M, a first person option I'd think takes away a lot of posibilities for the gameplay.

There was an article somewhere online about Metroid 2 as a horror game. I agree with it. Of course, it was the Game Boy, so I don't know that anyone considered it horrifying, but it had the right atmosphere. You'd find a shell of a Metroid to begin building up that sense of anticipation and dread but not know exactly where the mini-boss would appear, giving you something of a jump-scare.

Didn't Fusion have actual zombie-looking monsters early on? I have a terrible memory that sometimes just makes up things.

I would say that horror has always been something in the design team's mind since the beginning. The film Alien was a major inspiration, after all.

I would like to see the atmosphere of the first two games make a return. Of course, maybe it hasn't left; maybe I've just grown up past the ability to be intimidated by a game's atmosphere.

Anyway, other stuff:

Hunters was great fun in concept. I like the variety of characters. I know other shooters do this now where you equip yourself in advance and play a specialty role, but I find Hunters just felt more creative, if for nothing other than the fact that you were playing as neat alien bounty hunters and not GI Joe. I'd be all over a Hunters 2 (for Wii U, of course — my wrist could only take so much of that game on handheld).

Other M was in many ways more fun than Prime generally was, but the sense dodge or whatever it was called just made the game too simple and not challenging. As for the story... well, they kind of need to be careful about that after last time if they want it to be a success.

I liked some aspect of the story, myself, but it was a little nonsensical at times. Perhaps Samus should never have been a recurring character if they need her to regain all her weapons every single game in some way or another. They could have made it like True Detective with a new character and story each game but with the same general game play concept. Samus could still figure in as an NPC or a character you can play as later on.

Everyone likes Samus, and so do I, but no one can say that it isn't becoming a problem to have her lose the use of her weapons every game. And after the general reaction to last game's portrayal of her, they either have to pretend that never happened, or continue building on a personality many felt was weak and not in keeping with their mental image of her from previous games.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

I would like either a return to the heavily atmospheric, amazing fusion or a new direction for the franchise. 2-D with background-foreground interaction a good story, few new characters, no samus voice-acting, etc

I think Other M takes too much grief from fans who simply didn't like the story, mainly they did not like Samus Characterization.

I thought the wiimote controls limited the game and did not like the wheres waldo look for some random thing sequences.

I think Zelda could have similar backlash if they put voice acting in it....people wont be happy with the characterization.

Other M has beautiful cut scenes even if you didn't like the story of voice acting.

I actually love other m If you ignore certain issues, the game is good
