Probably just a bigger emphasis on story like the Halo Games. Also the A.I. and Sandbox encounters in Halo are rally great, I guess its harder to do in Metroid due to you battling indengious creatures. I would like to see a Metroid game with much bigger set pieces similar to a Halo Game. I can't see how they can do another slower Metroid game without going for a prequel.

But than I guess that's Metroid Prime 3

Plus a second campgain mode similar to Halo 4's Spartan ops about Anthony

Just put her on a deserted planet with enemies and space pirates, plot excuse. My ideas for it wouldn't necessarily need for it to avoid being "slow".

Everything else you said is valid though. I was gonna say "well if you play as a different character that could work". I was also thinking that a Metroid game would be even better without resorting to quicker Prime 3 action segments but that probably has nothing to do with why I prefer 1 so it's fine.

It'd also be nice to see more bounty hunting which would be a good excuse for quicker action I suppose.

Well from a story perceptive any game post Fusion has to be more actiony for better or worse. I mean the federation probably wants Samus dead since she's infected by the X parasite and knows that they breeding Metroid's Actually it would be easy to take plot points from older games (Hunters) back.

Question, why is Samus Aran called a Bounty Hunter? If anything she's a mercenary.

If we wont get any real game I wouldn't mind an eshop version of Metroid Blast expanded with multiplayer. .

I'd still like to see a Metroid game from the perspective of the Galactic Federation. You know, to introduce some new characters. Plus, we'd get to see what fighting traditional Metroid bosses like Ridley and Phantoon is like without being a superhuman.

Whle interesting it just sounds like it will be Operation Racoon city , feeling to far apart from the original games.

I am hoping for a first-person game from Retro Studios. An equivalent to Metroid Prime would be fantastic! The gamepad could make great usage from the game and would be the boost Nintendo needs.

lol this is so silly. None of Nintendo's IP's can be considered dead. I think every single one has a chance of a revival, even if it's just a re-release. Look at EarthBound, finally coming to the Americas AND Europe after like, what, 18 years of waiting? Everything just takes time. Metroid is a sure-fire money maker for the big N. I'm sure they have something planned for when the time is right.

Unfortunately I don't think that's true at all, despite popular belief. Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime 3, Metroid Prime Trilogy AND Metroid Prime Hunters only sold a total of 5 and a quarter million copies (Wikipedia). All five of those games, and only 5 million sales. That's not commendable. As a matter of fact, Metroid Prime 2 and Hunters only sold 3 quarters of a million copies each, and Prime Trilogy sold about half a million, albeit a limited release. Not to mention these games were ONLY popular in the States- US sales accounted for half to two thirds of each game's total sales, sometimes selling over 10x as many copies as in Japan. As for Metroid Other M, the game actually sold better than most realize, at about 1.23 million, right on par with Metroid Prime 3, which was the second-best selling Prime game. Of that 1.23 million, two thirds of those sales were in the US, the entire rest of the world accounted for the remaining one third. So with this info in mind, it's fair to assume that a Metroid game will net around 1-2 million sales, depending on how well it is received and advertised. Still, not one Metroid game has surpassed the 1.5 million mark since the original Prime, and even Prime only sold 2 million, AND was packaged with many of the Gamecubes sold, like WiiSports, which probably accounts for its higher sales numbers.

I think Nintendo gave Retro the option of doing either a Metroid game or a DK Country Returns sequel for their 1st Wii U title....they chose the latter. Presumably, because a number of former key staff who worked on Metroid Prime left and are now working on Arkham Origins: Blackgate for (3DS/PS Vita). It was easier for them to iterate on something they already knew rather than invent something afresh. I think there's a chance Retro will now pick up the Metroid project considering there only seems to be two things Nintendo want them to do for the console. They may have already done some groundwork in laying the foundations for what sort of game it will be...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a throwback to the 2D era of Metroid though, with a lot of the Prime staff gone... and considering their recent work with the 2D Donkey Kong series. I'd be surprised if Metroid didn't make an appearance in some form because it's such a fan favourite, and Nintendo seem more oriented towards the core Nintendo fan this time around..

WIth the proper staff they could be working on both like they would be at any other publisher. At this point Retro should a Naughty Dog style studio in terms of Staff.

Not really. If Samus was on the run, she could hide on a different planet and then have an adventure there. And the Federation wouldn't want to kill someone who has to be legendary in the universe in a non-discreet way.

Also more importantly, I'd be generally surprised for a Metroid game to actually have that as a plot. Both for Nintendo to want that plot (even taking into account Nintendo's more often than not "who cares either way?" opinion on game stories) and for it to happen for in-universe reasons. I'd bet anything it's just a small radical part of the Federation or some similar idea, and I'm pretty certain that's where Other M was going with it.

I'm replaying DKCR on the 3DS right now which makes me think Retro could also breeze fresh air into 2D Metroid. I'd prefer to see that on the 3DS though.
On the Wii U i'd love 'em to do a 3rd person Metroid. While i really like the Prime trilogy i think a different approach in the right hands would be a better idea.

Just reading some comments here giving Team Ninja GBH for Other M. I've said this before and I'll say it again, Team Ninja had NOTHING to do with the story of Other M, they made the engine and did an outstanding job at that! You want to blame anyone for the story then have a word with Nintendo then!

Nintendo is not going to start pumping out Metroid games every year, it's not a cash cow like Mario or Zelda, though it does pretty well and is a great (and I suspect beloved at Nintendo headquarters) IP like Donkey Kong though it doesn't sell as many as that.

i totally cant understand why people hate other m so much. I guess its because they dont know the roots off samus. Those people should definatly read the metroid manga. Also its an unfinished one it gives u the roots of samus so u can understand other m.

Why not make a third person shooter adventure simple as thst would be great, would be working would sell.

And btw im sure retro is on the track and already started programming long ago. Like i think it was miamoto who said that retro is capable of doing it, although he didnt say they are doin it but in this one interview he didnt denie it so it was kinda a hint.
Well at least i hope so.

With the way Metroid is being treated, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo stopped making them. Sure in Nintendo Land there was Metroid Blast, but there was also F-Zero, Balloon Fight, Octopus, and Nazo no Murasame Jō based games, and I don't think sequels for those games are in the works either. I hope Metroid doesn't die, it's by far Nintendo's most 'different' series.

Ok, from 2002-2010, we got:

  • Metroid Prime
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  • Metroid: Zero Mission
  • Metroid: Fusion
  • Metroid Prime Pinball
  • Metroid Prime Hunters
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Metroid: Other M

So just about 8 metroid games including Pinball. And Other M bombed and such. So metroid just needs to go on a break. But metroid is far from dead lol.

Metroid was "dead" for eight years after Super Metroid, so a long break for the series is hardly anything new.
