I agree with this post. Nintendo had thought of the story, but Team Ninja created the super-fun gameplay (The best gameplay in my opinion), so Team Ninja deserves another for the fun they gave us.

Wait. So because retro made their first game on Wii U to be donkey kong, you interpret that as Metroid will never be made on this system?

What kind of bubble do Nintendo "fans" live in that makes them think because something isn't coming out today means it will never come out? I'm seriously failing to figure how any one could come to a conclusion like this.

Let me break this down to you in easy, simple terms. This is a new console that desperately needs to build a user base... Retro gets paid a sum to cover their development costs and a small percentage of game sales... Now if you were a studio would you choose to make a game that might bring in 500k sales if you are lucky, or a title that has a chance to bring in millions of sales?

On the one hand you can make the niche fans happy or on the other hand you can bring in some massive influx of cash with a big hit game.

Which hand seems like the better business decision? Metroid would have done pretty lousy where as Donkey Kong is a sure fire hit.

I liked that comment from the ex-naughty dog developer... Donkey Kong is a crowning achievement to work on.. The dev is probably roughly my age, grew up with Donkey Kong and Mario and is super excited to work on an IP that he has always loved... Yeah, i can see how that would be a crowning achievement over another game with shooting things in it.

Of course the real issue is either that Nintendo needs to do a better job making Metroid as big a series as they very clearly have wanted it to be, or that people are awful, horrible excuses for human beings that don't buy Metroid games.

It means we definitely wont be getting one until 2015. Even then it's only a maybe. That's bad enough.

Why not both?

lol this is so silly. None of Nintendo's IP's can be considered dead. I think every single one has a chance of a revival, even if it's just a re-release. Look at EarthBound, finally coming to the Americas AND Europe after like, what, 18 years of waiting? Everything just takes time. Metroid is a sure-fire money maker for the big N. I'm sure they have something planned for when the time is right.

Metroid isn't a money maker. It's last 3D outing sold less than 2m copies. Other M was even less. I don't see how anyone thought a metroid game would have been made over DK.... And for what? To stroke some self entitled gamers' ego? (Not directed at you bahooney) Video games are a business believe it or not and Retro is going to make a killing on DK if it even matches half the sales of their last DK game. At half the sales of the last Donkey Kong it will still sell 5 times as many copies as Prime 3 did.

Id be interested to know the reasoning behind the sales and what it was mainly attributed to . Was it the fact that there hasnt been a true DK game for awhile? Is DK simply a stronger franchise? Or was it perhaps DK better meet the needs of those who purchased a wii? .

So retro should make a title they might lose money on instead of a title that well sell gangbusters? I don't understand the mindset when you look at sales of both DKCR and Prime 3. It makes far more business sense to make the high selling franchise first.

I personally liked Corruption much more than DKCR, but I'm not upset that a development studio decided to make a game that will pull in a tidy profit... I can't expect Nintendo to only release games I want made, especially because I like games that don't really sell well.... The numbers are not on my side to get niche titles I like over games like 3D World and DKCRTF. In other words I don't expect companies to lose money trying to please my tastes so when a game is announced that doesn't match what I want them to do, I don't break out into a meltdown over it... I'm patient enough and I know it will be made eventually.

I want Fire Emblem on Wii U before X. But Xenoblade sold more copies than FE Radiant Dawn sold, so I don't expect to see anything about FE on Wii U until E3 2014, with a release date of 2015.

DK is definitely a stronger franchise. It's been around alot longer... My parents know who Donkey Kong is, but if I said Metroid they would have no idea what I'm babbling about.

Games with high name recognition will be made first, because that's what will drive the install base.... Ninty loves to release niche titles that people never heard of. Thats their passion, but they can't make those games without a massive install base to sell those to because of how low the attach rate is for these games.

In fact Nintendo is probably taking a huge risk paying to have X, FExSMT and Bayo2 made so early in the consoles life cycle. 3D Mario, Zelda, DK, SSB and MK8 will have the spotlight because those titles bring in console sales.

I wouldn't be opposed to another studio having a crack at the. Franchise..... I bet Next Level games could make a great 3DS Metroid.

I'm a huge Metroid fan and I do not like the Prime series.

Samus is way too slow in the Prime games and making the game into a first person perspective completely ruins it. Samus cannot be as agile as she is in the Metroid games as she can in the Prime games. It just doesn't work. And then the scanning. Scan, scan, scan, everything. What's that up on the mountain in the distance? I don't know, why not scan it? ...No.

And I know, I know. "Scanning is optional." Well, sometimes it's mandatory, but even the optional stuff, it keeps track of your percent. I'm the type of gamer that likes to 100% games, but in order to 100% a Prime game I have to scan everything. And I mean everything. Sometimes you don't even make any progress in the game. You're just standing in a room for five minutes scanning everything. And I know, you don't have to read it, but if I'm going to scan it then I might as well read it, right?

So, if I'm not going to read it, then why scan it? If I'm not going to scan it, why care about the percent? If I'm not going to care about the percent why even play the game?

Now, Other M. That's what I'm talking about. This is the 3D Metroid game I've been waiting for ever since the n64 came out. Everyone likes to talk about how much of a sissy Samus is in the cutscenes, but what? You would look into the eyes of a giant dinosaur-looking alien full of sharp teeth, claws and even the tail and just be cool about it? In the story, Samus is a real human being. Human beings have feelings. I suppose you all just want Samus to be that cold, emotionless "human" that she is in the Prime games.

Besides, Sakamoto is one of the co-creators of the series. The game should be in his hands, not some Texans. Other M was his first 3D Metroid game. He should have had this awkward transition into 3D back in the n64 days when everybody else did, that way people wouldn't be talking so much crap about his game the way they are now. Metroid is his baby, and I want it to grow with him. Not grow up with somebody else and then come back to him, but that's partially what happened.

So... anyway, I want a sequel to Other M. A sequel that's just as much better than Other M as Super Metroid is better than Metroid 1 (on the NES).

2D metroids are my favorite. and am i the only one around here who appreciates that Nintendo tried something new with Other M, even if it wasn't as brilliant as Nintendo's other games? i personally enjoyed Other M,and i applaud Nintendo for trying something New like they always do, even if it wasn't "fantastic" like other Nintendo works. you guys need to understand.

Yes it is a sequel to Other M. Chronologically at least. Probably more accurate to call Other M a Metroid Fusion prequel otherwise but same difference. I mean (and some SPOILERS!!!! about both games guys):

1. It is more linear for the sake of more traditional narrative than you normally see in other games in the series.
2. There is focus on an important figure in Samus' life named Adam.
3. A powerful weapon that you are told you cannot use but do end up using to kill the final boss (Power Bomb, Ice Beam).
4. Samus' narrating in the epilogue.
5. The setting is a space station that somehow has Space Pirates (Zebesians, WHATEVER) and Metroids.
6. A major plot point involves a segment of the Galactic Federation breeding Metroids for their own use as a secret area that is quickly destroyed near the end game.
7. An advanced Metroid is the final boss.
8. Adam as a whole.
9. The navigation rooms.
10. Having someone order you at all.

I know how to fix Metroid, DON'T MAKE IT FIRST PERSON. If Castlevania can make decent sales with every game on the DS using a METROIDvania formula, why wouldn't the basis of the genre sell pretty well? Especially on the WiiU, in HD. Or even on the 3DS. Just a thought...
