Topic: Metro: Last Light developer calls the Wii U CPU "horrible, slow"

I bet that isn't the case. The developers just don't know how to properly utilise the system yet. It's early days...

Currently playing: Rhythm Heaven, Minecraft (XBLA), Pokemon B/W 2, Halo 4, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave, Fallblox, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN)

Will be playing soon: Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Cave Story +, Wii U: NSMBU, Nintendo Land, (And lots more!)

and this developer has developed how many games on which platforms?
Pretty sure I read Metro was PC and PC console (XBolloX) only but can't find the link/site where I read it. It certainly makes for Xbotroll food.

This is going to be wii all over again. As soon as PS4,XBOX3 come out, developers will stop porting games to wii U and we will have to rely on Nintendos slow trickle of AAA games once again to stop our consoles completely gathering dust.

That didn't stop the PS2 now did it? It has the lower specs out of that generation of 3, but because of its release being around a year ahead of the competition, it was much more familiar for developers to work with. The WiiU, if anything, is in that same scenario right now.

Not only did I basically debunk this exact claim, but i think @GameLord08 basically summed it up.
In fact-

@GamerLord08: I'm very aware of that just as we all are, I'm just talking about all the "OMG, PS$ & Xbox720 is gonna blow Wii U outta the water, its gonna be the Wii all over again" Bull people keep spewing.

I don't think anyone needs a reminder about the mistakes that were made this gen, and provides plenty of proof as to why Sony and Microsoft won't be going Tim "tool man" Taylor this time around.

I don't like quoting myself but I'm not retyping whats basically going to be the same thing. The gap in power is going to be a lot smaller, closer to how last gen was if anything.

Oh cmon, you know you want your 70 dollar retail games. It's completely worth it.

With some games, that would still be a deal (Ex: Skyrim) when you consider the "entertainment per hour:dollar" ratio. I tend to think about how much seeing a movie costs at a movie theater and how long I'm entertained.

@Magi: Besides the point. The current model of development is hardly sustainable as it is; what do you believe will happen when developers are forced to sell their games at $70 due to expensive development costs? Businesses shutting down due to bankruptcy after their game went down the lavvy, the possible eradication of mid-tier developers due to this sort of development cost being an unreachable duress, and AAA developers becoming stupendously risk-averse with their games. All this leads down to unhappy developers, unhappy consumers and an extortionate, barren platform.

The PS2 came out at a time when Japan was the center of gaming. That is no longer the case within today's gaming society.
The PS2 doubled as a cheap DVD player. The Wii U doesn't do that.
Also, the Wii U's specs aren't drastically higher than the 360 or PS3. Isn't it odd that it doesn't completely outclass tech from 2005?

I understand there are giant holes in my argument. The Wii U lacking on media has a good chance of not being a hindrance with the rise of Smart TVs. Specs probably won't be that higher across the other next-gen platforms either, for reasons mentioned in this thread. I'm just pointing out that mentioning the PS2 as a counter-argument in this case is horribly flawed. We are in very different times now.

Best thread ever

@moomoo: In some respects, the Wii U does sport some drastic improvements over the PS3/Xbox 360. Its RAM is quadruple that of the 360 and the PS3, but since only half of it is dedicated to games, slice that number in half. Another thing is the console's GPGPU, which is something completely non-existent in current-gen consoles - I also believe this to be something that could significantly alleviate the detriment the Wii U's underpowered CPU brings while being a reasonably more cost-effective piece of tech, but that's only an educated guess.

The Wii U does have a significant standing with media - Nintendo TVii? Integrating a TV streaming aggregation service with social networking features is something pretty big for media capabilities.

But I agree; the PS2 is an entirely different saga when compared to these circumstances.
