Just been reminiscing about the old days and growing up with Sega.Owned every console (Mega CD and 32X included), except the Game Gear and the only Nintendo console I owned before the N64 was a Gameboy.Other than the 2600 and Spectrum 128k+2A lol,I've only ever been a Sega and Nintendo gamer.Only 4 times in my life have I been genuinely blown away by a game,Sonic 1 on my friends imported MD long before it was released to the west, then Mario 64,LOZ OOT and finally Shenmue.Only probably Mario Galaxy has come close to rekindling any of those glorious moments for me.

Anyway, now that Sega have gone the way they have,I would love to see them reinvent their glory days through the WiiU Eshop.Proper sequels to their classics from the 16 bit era.Golden Axe,SOR,Shinobi,Ecco, Monster World etc.I know they are releasing HD remasters of their Dreamcast games and have already released Sonic 4 but I'm talking about proper 16 bit titles and official sequels. Also bring back the old fashioned shoot em ups,a new MUSHA,for example if possible. No HD just good old fashioned 16 bit visuals filtered and optimized for modern TV's and play on the Gamepad with online leaderboards and multiplayer to bring them up to date.I know Sega are struggling financially but these would surely be cheap enough to make and if made to the same quality as how they used to be then I'm confident there would be a big enough market for them.Even better if Nintendo could make it exclusive to the Eshop with say 1 or 2 titles a month retailing for around 10-15 quid.Being exclusive would likely bring at least some fans back to Nintendo or am I just being blind to the current gaming climate and should remove my rose tinted specs and get back to my 2nd play through of Landstalker?

First I will preface this with the fact that I consider myself a pretty big retro gamer and collector an addition to a modern game.

Sega is not going to back to making games from the days of the "bit wars." Large companies are not interested in spending resources on old technology and I don't think there is a huge market for it either. These games that you propose I fear would be ripped to bits in the harsh world that is the video gaming community. If you want "new retro" games you are going to have to look at smaller independent projects like with Super Fighter Team. Since you are a Sega fan, I recommend you check out Sega Age.

I agree, its probably more wishful thinking than anything else.Megaman 9 and 10 were fairly successful though and Retro city rampage which looks awesome, seems to be highly anticipated so it shows there still is a market for retro games with a modern twist.La mulana also comes to mind although I'm not sure how well it sold?Maybe they don't appeal to the younger generation but there is still a big enough market of us older gamers that they would appeal to.Wayforward brought Double Dragon back too,so they could even give their old IP's to smaller devs.Again though, probably just wishful thinking :-D

Proper sequels for Mega Drive classics? You mean like Epic Mickey the Power of Illusion? Because that's a traditional sprite styled 2D platformer meant to be a successor to a Mega Drive/Genesis classic.

But yeah, even as a non Sega fan I think the idea is decent. We need more good games in general, and stuff like this could be just the ticket.

A level editor would be perfect for a Kid Chameleon remake.

I keep these Nintendo Life threads updated: Missing 3DS VC and Wii U VC between regions, Full of list first party Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Gear games missing from the 3DS VC, and Full of list first party Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Wii games missing from the Wii U VC.

Ah, you mean Genesis U :P

More seriously though, like others have stated, I think it's best to look towards the indies for the "new" retro games.

Cave Story feels very 16-bit SEGA to me for some reason, and that's on the 3DS' eShop. In addition to that, there's Mighty Switch Force, VVVVVV, and Mutant Mudds (although I personally felt the latter came off as too fake). With those, alongside upcoming titles such as Yatagarasu, Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes, Ikachan, & Mutant Mudds 2, there's actually quite a bit of "new" retro goodness on the Nintendo front.

I can only laugh at such a daft comment.I feel like I've returned to the early 90's console wars after reading that.So by your theory which you must have had confirmed by Nintendo,we will never be able to play any of our Sonic VC titles as the Wii U wont be able to handle the vertical refresh rate?So that means the Wii did have 'Blast processing' then?

PS There is no such thing!!!

I think it they do it, which I think is a really good idea, Sega probably get a smaller developer (or a new-ish internal studio) to make them, and then they'll publish them themselves.

But with Sega in financial trouble right now, they'll probably look at this as "non-profitable"... :(

Granted I had just woke up and saw 'blast processing" and I felt like I was in the playground all over again.Being a Sega kid I probably used to boast about it myself.

Sega just went up a rank with me. I remember playing that Mickey game ad a friend. it was an epic Mickey game(haha).

I really want SEGA to survive these years, so I'll probably will get some more SEGA VC games that are on my list. Is that Mickey game availlable?

I really want that game..

EDIT

BOOOH. it's not there..
