I don't think third parties are coming back. If the Wii U isn't in their road maps now that include many cross gen titles and 8th gen only titles than it sure as hell won't be when they eventually go mainly PS4/XB1.

The Wii U will survive on first Party titles, indies, and the odd third party title.

That's exactly why it doesn't make sense, though. They say they will come back whenever their expectations have been met, but their expectations be could be impossible, for all we know. 3rd parties know what kind of games Nintendo releases and are still hoping it meets some sort of goal, so either they have a good idea of how many consoels Nintendo should/could sell, or they weren't going to support it like Xbox One/PS4, regardless.

3rd parties never supported Wii U as strongly as Xbox One or PS4, and Wii U had and still has more consoles than Xbox One, so there must be something specific that they are waiting for.

I have the opposite opinion, that Wii U actually has more of a chance when things go full swing into 8th gen, because Wii U's hardware will eventually be able to support some form of 8th gen games, while Xbox 360 and PS3 won't be viable at all, anymore. The only way Wii U won't be viable, is if Nintendo's efforts were in vain.
