May's top 10 software is in

Untitled

Mario Kart 2, just like the UK, Kirby 9th, just like the UK, and Mario Golf outside the top 10, just like the UK. And people continue to say that the UK hates Nintendo?

No hardware numbers yet, but PS4 is confirmed to be the highest seller, which is no real surprise after MS announced they'd be releasing a $100 cheaper console in June. I'm seriously expecting horrible Xbone sales in May, and Wii U could actually outsell it. The flip side is they'll probably beat everyone in June.

Some interesting facts are that next gen software sales made up 43% of total sales, compared to just 22% the month before.

No offense, but this isn't that interesting. There's actually more 8th gen software, so it makes sense that more would be sold.

If there are no hardware sales, then how can we confirm that PS4 sold the most? Did someone say it sold the most, but didn't give out numbers? I don't understand.

Also, does PC count as next gen, all gen, or current gen?

Okay, so Wii U hardware sales look as if they're around 60k, which if true, has got to be disappointing. It just goes to show how pointless this percentage increase nonsense is. Sales dip in the weeks leading to a new SKU, so then, just going back up to regular numbers means a huge percentage increase over the previous week.

Mario Kart 8 was only out for two days yet managed to outsell every other title sans Watch_Dogs for the whole month.

No, PC does not count as next gen, but this is physical media so the PC software sales are insignificant. Well, NPD members have the numbers and people have tweeted PS4 is on top again, but takes a bit of time for the numbers to filter through.

And how is there more 8th gen software? Nobody expected the 8th gen software sales to match the 360/PS3 numbers until towards the end of 2015. That's why every game is still coming out on those old consoles as devs thought they had to make any money. It is a pretty interesting stat.

Where are you getting information from? From what I've read, Mario Kart bundles and software is selling out, so Nintendo is selling however many they need to, presumably. Meeting demand is different than not meeting demand, which is a big factor people tend to forget.

There is more 8th gen software, period. We have the launch titles, TitanFall still exists, Dead Rising 3 might still be selling, that "solve your own murder" game just came out, MK8, just came out, etc. There is more 8th gen software. Even if an 8th gen game isn't on that list, it still contributes to that 8th gen software sold stat. That's how I would think it is, anyway.

I'm not surprised by MK8 since they gave away a free game with it but bravo to HAL Laboratory for Kirby being in the Top 10.

Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

Also, notice that the MK8 stat doesn't have the ** next to it, even though there is a hardware bundle.

Nintendo gives shipped numbers and NPD doesnt count bundles so this statement is irrelevant.

The bundles at the stores were selling out and the NPD chart isn't excluding hardware bundles for MK8, according to the ** sign, so it is relevant.

I was actually going to make an in depth post but its clear SCAR has no idea what hes talking about. Look at the date the top 2 games were released and how NPD tracks their numbers bro.

The chart doesn't have that ** thing next to Mario Kart 8. Why would they forget to put it on MK8, but make sure to put it on TitanFall? If you really want to care about the date, then that would mean Watch_Dogs and MK8 sold more than all the other games, with less time.

That is exactly what they did how are you finding the chart so hard to understand.

That's what I was saying to begin with, though, so you and @MAN1AC apparently didn't understand that I understood.

"Not those bundled with hardware" is the part you should be looking at. And mentioning MK8 being sold out in stores will mean more for the June NPD numbers for obvious reasons.

Numbers are in:

PS4 ~ 197k
3DS ~ 97k
XB1 ~ 77k
Wii U ~ 61k
360 ~ 57k
PSV ~ 56k
PS3 ~ 36k
Wii ~ 11k

Pretty bad month for everyone apart from PS4!

And some software figures

Mario Kart 8 ~ 377k

WatchDogs PS4 > 575,000
WatchDogs XB1 > 377,000
WatchDogs 360 > 175,000
WatchDogs PS3 > 137,000

Total > 1.25M

The only thing I don't like about sales charts is that they rarely add digital sales. Didn't Nintendo confirm Mario Kart 8 sold over 1 million in its opening weekend?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yeah, Worldwide. NPD is just North America. Japanese charts come out every week, and it sold 325,000 there on top of this. We don't really have any idea how much it sold in Europe.
