Topic: Mass Effect 3 (first foray into the ME universe)

I'm contemplating grabbing ME3 on the Wii U. I've never played any of the previous iterations before. I know there's the interactive comic you can do before starting the game to give you a short synopsis of the previous two games. My main questions is am I putting myself at a huge disadvantage jumping straight into the 3rd game, or is it still worth it? Will I "get" enough of the story from the interactive comic to make playing through 3 worthwhile? Looking forward to everyone's answers...

Not worth it in my opinion. Just try to play the first 2 since they're pretty good games and the third one will be much, much better if you continue your save file from the 1st. I don't think playing the 3rd one only will be a very good experience, since you don't even know the characters, and I mean, really know them and care for them (which comes from playing 2 games with them, doing their side quests, etc), you will know who they are from the synopsis but it's never the same thing.

I suggest you play them all, it brings much more to the table.

I have Mass Effect 3 for Wii U and I have never played 1 or 2 nor do I plan to. 1 game of this series is enough for me. As for the story, there is plenty enough story going on that quite frankly I don't really care what happened in 1 and 2. I don't need to know the characters that I come across either, there is already plenty enough dialogue between them that bores me anyway. I haven't finished it but overall I think it is pretty good though.

I'm kind of thinking along the same lines as you Ryno. For me to try and finish 1 and 2 before playing 3 would probably take me about 6 months at the rate I can get through games. Did you do the interactive comic before delving into the actual game?

Yeah, makleod99, I did the comic, it was like 20 minutes. Was it worth it? Meh... There were a couple of choices to make but would I have been able to have an idea on what is gong on without it? I think so. I'm with you in that the 3 games would take me around 6 months and I wouldn't spend all that video game time on the Mass Effect universe.

You would still enjoy it but not nearly as much as you would playing all three. Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games ever. The trilogy as a whole is probably my favorite ever. It's such a story driven series I don't know why they would put just the 3rd one on Wii U.
