It makes **very good use** of the Game Pad, and looks great on the Wii U.
I'm playing it right now, and don't understand why all the negativity when it came out. Sure it was stupid not to release the trilogy but price dropped quickly and it does include DLC, something the trilogy doesn't.

I don't feel it's necessary at all to play the previous two games. It may be missing all kinds of background but the main story is straightforward, and they take care to explain everything a thousand times in the journal.

If anyone didn't pick it up, he can find it for $15-$30 and I think it is a great deal.

Tis a great game, but should've been released as a budget title, unless it included the previous 2 games.

I was actually considering trying to find this game someplace cheap. I bought Mass Effect 3 collectors edition at launch on my Xbox 360 and LOVED the game. I would love to see how it plays on WiiU.

Yeah it's a decent game. Looks good, plays fine, and an alright use of the GamePad. Just wish I could have sped through dialogue. After playing it I realized interactive movie games are really not for me.

To blessed to be stressed.

I just recently bought the game too. I've never played any ME games before. I am totally engrossed in the game. It's amazing on the Wii U, and the gamepad features are very nice. The online co-op multi-player is very fluid and fun too. I haven't had any issues getting into games. Love how it affects the single-player campaign too!

Since you've never played any before, you should definitely get Mass Effect 1 and 2 on Xbox 360, PS3, or PC if you can.

I feel you are missing a hell of alot by not playing the first two. Mass Effect 2 is in my top 5 of favorite games of all time. That said I would still highly recommend the 3rd game if that is your only chance of playing the series.

It's the worst version or the worst game in an otherwise great series.

Sadly I don't have an Xbox or PS3. ME3 will have to suffice for now...

I thought Mass Effect 1 was horrible, so I skipped 2 & 3.
I've been tempted to buy the Wii U version of 3 for $17 on Amazon to give it another shot(I heard it got better), but I've kinda deemed the series a miss for myself, especially at this point.
The journal thing actually sounds better than playing the first 2 games.

The first Mass Effect seems like it would have been more appealing when it was new. I played it right before 2 came out, and I couldn't tell what the fuss was about.

Mass Effect 1 is probably the best game in the series or at least my favorite. (Janky combat aside)

Mass Effect 1 just seems like a game I would have had to have been intoxicated to enjoy.

I understood the concept of a story and mission based combat game, but I didn't think it was executed that well.

I think side quests are usually what turns me away from these kinds of games. Side quests never affect games as much as I think they should, and I feel like the game is incomplete by choosing not to do them.

Well it was the first game in the series. But I think the while mission progess was rough it was handled pretty well where you could handle the first few planets in any order and your experience on each one would change depending on how you tackled it. Also isn't that kind of the point side quests are usually optional and are there to level ip or world build. The side quests i Mass effect usually are followed up through each depending on what you do.
The music, the presentation, design, and the feel of a 70s space novel or series. Its a game you mostly play for the story and character interactions as well.

I'd say try going through one again since playing all three is a pretty unique Its also intresting how tonally different yet similar the three games are.

@Scar392 I highly recommend you go ahead and give Mass Effect a 2nd chance. It may be kinda on the generic side for a scifi game as far as characters and environments but it really is a great series. The story in them is really good just have to get past the blah combat of the 1st game.

@Scar392 - just play number 3 on the Wii U. I didn't play the first two, but a huge part of my enjoyment of the third is because of the Game Pad. It is so fluid and convenient. You have a map at all times, you can see the different floor maps all the time, you can tell your crew where to go on the map, and you have all the powers at your disposals to click whereever you want to. I know that I wouldn't have enjoyed it the same without the Game Pad. Game Pad features give it the futuristic feel.

Eh I've never seen the point of just playing through 3. A part of the experience is playing all three and having everything carry over. Plus alot of the default decesions suck and looks off a ton of potential content. Plus the game's high's are much higher when your familaer with the characters and world.

Fuzzy

I find it hard to play through the original these days. Feels dated. I think 2 and 3 are quite a bit more refined.

I would at least start from 2. Do the pre-game comic thing to chose a few key decisions from 1 and go from there.
