It seems like Nintendo didn't put the final half hour (where they played different community levels) of Treehouse Live in their YouTube archives, but here it is:

They're really nailing this game!! the only thing missing, I presume missing as it isn't mentioned and would be too big NOT to mention, is online leaderboards. Whether a standardised time/score one; or even better, the level creators determine the "challenge", speed, least amount of lives, most/least coins, most enemies killed etc Or even be able to set challenges within the game. So the ending only opens up when you've collected 100 coins or every enemy for example. Would be great.

And nintendo could run their own tournaments you only get to play ONCE or a few times to set scores/times. I really hope Nintendo build on this and realise the competition opportunities this game has!

Love the Automatic Mario level shown in that video. Previously, that privilege was reserved for Mario World ROM hacks.

IGN has a rundown on how the online sharing feature will work.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/16/e3-2015-9-exciting-thi...

  • You can not upload unbeatable levels. You need to beat the level you've created before you can upload it.
  • You can not upload altered versions of levels you've downloaded.
  • You can follow certain creators and get updates whenever they upload a new stage.
  • The level's difficulty is assigned by how many players complete it. If a low percentage of players complete it, it's classified as hard. If a high percentage of players complete it, it's classified as easy and vice versa.
  • The more players that give your level a star (i.e recommend it) the more visible it becomes. Rankings based on global, regional, weekly and all-time are available.
  • There will be a limit of 10 levels you can upload initially, but the limit increases the more players recommend your levels.

I don't like the last rule. You're creativity should never be limited. I hope they made that rule just so people don't spam bad levels (internationally bad). If so, I think it would be better to have a report button to the user's name that's lets Nintendo know that someone is wasting their servers with bad levels, and they could just delete all the levels and temporarily ban that person from uploading levels.

The creativity isn't limited. You can create as many levels as you want, it's just the sharing that's limited.

If this program sells 2 million copies and 10% of the user base spam with "bad" level uploads, that would mean that they would need to check the uploads of 200,000 users. Hardly possible.

Now we just need an option to turn off just the music so we can record the level and upload our own music to match it.

So I need to ask you something people.

What kind of levels are you expecting to see?

Challenge/difficulty levels likes the ones showed at NWC,
or
polished, official style levels, in the vein of a level you would see in an official mario game.

^A little of both, but I don't want to play any Kaizo Mario type levels.

It's the internet and we've seen plenty of insane levels...also expect tons of inappropriate stuff as well. >.>
I however, am just gonna create a Super Mario World game...I might use one world to make some troll-ish levels, but they'll mostly be normal. lol

As a Mario veteran I want challenge. A series of worlds that start hard and just go nuts by the end. Not Kaizo-levels of absurd (as I still want to be able to beat them so I can share them) but you're gonna see some intense stuff coming from me.

I see.

If I ever get this. Im actually going to go the ROM hacking route. Create a set of 32 levels, progressing difficulty, like a SMB1 hack.

I might port some of my old levels of a SMB3 hack I never finished.

As cookiex noted, there might be veteran players looking for a challenge, so I suppose to increase my limit of sharing levels, I will start by creating those.

So, can you go from land into water or is water set to all or nothing? Can you enter from the water' surface, basically.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

I think he means something that's like BOTH water and land in the same area. If he does mean that, doesn't look like it, but you can have pipes that lead into a water area.

That's what I meant. Thanks for the answer.

No you cant. Thats one of the limitations from this game.

There seems to be only the SMB1 themes (overworld, underground, sky, underwater, castle and bonus)

So something like Mondo from SMW remains exclusively by editing the main games.

Maybe in a future update, who knows. Wouldn't even mind one of those levels similar to the ones in SMB3 with the giant Cheep Cheep. (whatever his name is)

Well to be fair, there's actually a difference between how Mondo worked and how most not 100% completely underwater levels with water themes work. The former has rising and lowering tides on layer 3, the latter have static water as part of the foreground.

If the game can't handle the latter... that's kind of disappointing. But I wouldn't even really expect it to handle the former type of mechanic.

@CM30

The game wasn't even planned to have some sort of this feature.

It just can be a water sprite with a rising and lowering behaviour, like how it works in NSMBDS.

Seems that the game is limited to the SMB1 scope only. I mean, no slopes for SMB3 or world? Lazy nintendo.

Perhaps you missed the part where the game is a celebration to the 30th anniversary of the first Mario game?

I'm pretty sure the point of that rule is precisely that. So that people who create levels that other players don't like don't flood the service. I mean ultimately the game is equal parts sharing levels AND playing other people's levels. I don't have a problem with them limiting some people's ability to share in order to make it so that there are better levels on the service. If it's all decided by users then there shouldn't be an issue.
