@DiscoGentleman: You should, Amazon gives you a download code, which is basically the same as buying it on your Wii U, without adding in money to the console.
Not that I'm getting it digitally, but are you able to still pre-load the game?

Keep it PG-13-ish.
@Megumi: Yes, Amazon gives out the download code 72 hours before the release so you can pre-load.
Pre-load: Receive Your Codes on 9/8
Customers who pre-order "Super Mario Maker" will be sent their codes on 9/8/15 (72 hours prior to launch). When you receive and redeem your code, your game will pre-load on your device so you can begin play immediately on launch day (9/11/15).

I thought that's exactly what the e-shop did too? I downloaded the game and it's on my start up screen. If you select it to try and play it, a message will come up just saying the game isn't released yet.
Also, I live in California so I'll get the game at 9pm (my time) and I requested that Friday off so I plan on playing it all night.
I don't understand the pre-load thing a whole lot...if I can wait 2 weeks I can wait an extra 30 min - an hour.
I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke! My YouTube Channel! Video game related, of course! My Pushmo Levels

Not everyone has the luxury of faster internet speeds. And it's not entirely for our benefit. Preloading makes it a lot easier on Nintendo's servers.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

It's just for people who buy digitally, if I was buying this game digitally I might as well download it so it's almost ready to be played right at midnight on launch. Also some of us don't do the whole midnight launch thing at retail stores, so, yeah. xp
@brewsky Ah good point. That's makes a lot of sense. @Megumi I plan on downloading it as well to avoid driving and gas costs. I was just unsure why people are so into the pre-download part of it. Now I know ^_^

I went to GameStop during their midnight release of Smash Bros for the 3DS. It was my first time doing that with a game and I found the experience annoying, as well as when a new wave of amiibos come out and everyone lines up at Target before the store opens.
I'd rather digitally download games (if I have space) and just order amiibos as imports.. even if I have to spend extra money it beats the stress and hassle of going to the store when something is in demand.
I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned this, but I was thinking about making a parkour type level. Hopefully I can get multiple high and low routes to take in the level, using wall jumps, spring boards, vines, and well placed enemies.
It might take a while to get the flow of the level right so that there is little to no slow points in the level design, but I think it could turn out to be fun.
What do you guys think? Is it an idea you would try for yourselves?
All the other GameStops near me are garbage, with rude employees and a serious discrimination against people who play Nintendo games (how immature and insecure do you have to be to act that way?). So, my point is that, in my experience, it very much depends on the store and who works there/runs it. Do you have any small business game stores in your city?
Ha! That sounds hilarious. How exactly do they "discriminate" against Nintendo gamers exactly?
@Dezzy: My local GameStop has a long wall of PlayStation games, a shorter wall for Xbox games, and the Wii U and 3DS section is in a small corner behind a support, so you can't even see it, unless you walk behind it. But they have the Amiibos, and the Link and Ganon figurines in proud display.
I actually have several Mario levels designed already that I hope to re-create when Mario Maker comes out.
I've never had an awful experience at Gamestop. In fact, they seem enthusiastic to sell the Nintendo products, because they seem to be clawing for your money.
@Rexcalibr I actually did the same thing for the first time, and it'll probably be my last time doing it as well. Too many food and amusement park lines means I want to stay away from lines longer than ~6 people whenever I can. Was definitely cool to see a ton of people actually excited for a Nintendo game for once, though.

Well, got to try the demo out for this game...several problems.
1. World 1-1 Remix isn't much of a remix.
2. TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOUR CONTROLLERS GAMESTOP!!!
3. Couldn't really stand there and mess with the creator that much, screen was scratched up anyways.
4. Is it the 11th yet?
Out of interest what controller will everyone use when playing the levels?
