Topic: Mario Kart 8 Vs Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed

So Mario Kart 8 has been out and my wife and I have been having a hell lot of fun. Mario Kart 8 is undoubtedly a fantastic game, but how does it compared to Sonic all stars on the Wii U? Here's my opinion on these 2 games.

Controls: Mario Kart 8's controls feels snappy and tight. Whereas Sonic's felt kinda numb and sloppy. Winner MK8

Online Mode: Mario Kart 8 has 2 player splitscreen online with 12 players. Sonic has 10 and 5 player splitscreen online. Tied.

Graphics: They both look equally good. Tied. But personally I prefer the MK8 graphics simply because it is more "colorful".

Customization: Mario Kart 8 gives you the ability to select your Kart, Wheel and glider. Sonic only offers slight customization to each character when you level up. Winner Mario Kart 8 hands down.

Track Design: Mario Kart 8 have the very interesting anti gravity and some of the courses having different paths which enhances the gameplay. Sonic All stars have more variety (boat, cars and planes) but the sloppy controls kind off ruins the fun a bit. Winner MK8 (only slight)

Battle mode: Winner is Sonic hands down. The battle mode in MK8 is just plain boring and atrocious. I hope Nintendo gives us some proper battle mode maps as DLC soon.

Difficulty: My wife loves playing MK8 and hated the Sonic racing to the gut. That pretty much explains it. Winner MK8.

Specs: MK 8 runs at 720P at 60FPS. Sonic runs at 1080p 60FPS. Winner Sonic.

As you can see, my opinion are mostly praising Mario Kart 8 because it is that good. This game is fantastic and in my opinion, the best Kart racing game I've ever played. If they give us proper battle mode maps, this game will be flawless. Mario Kart 8 and Sonic All Stars Racing are both good games, but in my opinion, Mario Kart 8 is the better one between the two. Please do note this is ONLY MY OPINION.

What do you guys think? Do you prefer the blue hedgehog or the Italian plumber?

My online experience with SASRT just killed it for me. Especially that long count down wait. So the challenge mode was fun but that's where it ended.

SASRT isn't bad, but it can't really compare to the polished experience that MK8 is.

Currently Playing: Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re- Boot Camp (NS)

IMO, Sonic doesn't feel anywhere near those specs when running it. And according to Eurogamer, it's more like 576p and 30 fps:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-sonic-all-st...

"On the main screen, Nintendo's platform manages to output a native resolution of 1024x576, with a post-process approach to anti-aliasing running over the top."
"On to performance, and on Wii U we see a strong push for 30FPS, similar to the PS3 and 360 editions."

Wait, so the game is not 1080p 60fps? I'm confused here.

This.... I still love Sonic, but I'd have to go with MK8 mainly b/c the play has been much smoother. Every now and then Sonic gets a little buggy on me. I love the first four tracks on Sonic- I still go back to them even after a year of play.

I think this is the EXACT same feeling I'm having as I play MK 8. I really liked Sonic Racing, and the whole transformation idea is great...but the polish just isn't there like in MK 8. Even though tracks are shorter in MK, it seems like every turn and every detail is well thought out. Almost every kart/glider/underwater segment feels fluid and natural and often optional in a good way. The boat segments in Sonic racing are horrible, and the often necessary changes between vehicles can feel forced for the sake of variety and not very fun. Plus there isn't a single course in MK that I flat-out hate...there were at least 5-6 that I loathed in Sonic Racing (Burning Depths, the Billy Hatcher stage, the Dreams stage, etc.). I friggen' loved Carrier Zone, but everyone online would rather play the darn Billy Hatcher level over and over and OVER.

I can understand why some people prefer Sonic, but MK 8 just feels better in every way to me.

I only have room for one racer in my life, and that will be Mario Kart 8. (Could change that for an F-Zero though.)

I flat out hate all the tracks other than Mount Wario/Rainbow Road on Mario Kart 8.

I don't like the way all the characters in Mario Kart 8 control in such a similar manner either.

Mario Kart 8 also looks awful on the same TV as the Steam version which I have had at 1080p/60fps anti-aliased since 2012. But the most important thing is I never get bored playing it (Whereas with Mario Kart 8 so far most of the time I wish I wasn't).

I don't like the Billy Hatcher level either but it is the only level I don't like.

I suppose it also helps that I would like another entry in every one of the games in All Stars Racing : Transformed (Not bothered so much for Sonic) but I am completely bored stupid with Mario.

My MK8 copy should arrive tomorrow if all goes well, so I will be able to share my impressions on this subject.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

There is an unannounced game for E3. Better start praying friend.

It is not the Steam version is though. The iOS version is also 60fps and even though the iOS one has no anti-aliasing its not an issue on a retina ipad.

(Only briefly tested the iOS one won't even properly try it without a controller).

Sonic Racing is the better game.

I think this is kinda true. I have both games (Transformed on PS3), and they're both different beasts. While Mario Kart has that colorful charm, Sonic has a more serious tone. When it comes to playing the game, I'd say it felt more satisfying to complete the game (getting every trophy) in Transformed, rather than MK8 (which is incredibly easy). However, I'd play MK8's online more than Transformed since it has less bugs.

Wi-Fi Game List:
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Splatoon
Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS + All DLC
Mario Kart 8 + All DLC
Mario Golf: World Tour + All DLC
Mario Kart 7
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

Wii U & 3DS Game Wish List:...

Wait, didn't Sonic Transformed support up to five players online via one console? I never used it, but I thought it was possible.

Both games are amazing in their own way, and I can't really decide which one is my favorite right now, since MK8 is a new game. Though Transformed isn't as polished as MK8, the track designs are really good, the game feels really fast (though the handling is a bit weird, but I could get over that) and the soundtrack is fantastic. At the other hand, MK8 also has great tracks and a really good soundtrack, though I think I prefer Sonic slightly over MK8.

I do agree on the "serious note". However I felt frustration everytime I play Sonic due to the sloppy controls. That may be just me though.

Does it? The last time I was playing it I never saw the option for splitscreen online. If it does then I'll change my first post.

I believe you can play pretty much any single player mode in multiplayer by adding people in the main menu (before selecting a mode) by pressing the + button on each controller. I'm pretty sure you can also go online with multiple people this way, but like I said, I never used it myself. I'll need to try it sometime.
