Topic: Mario Kart 8 roster starting to feel like a Joke.. Is Nintendo going in the right direction?

I'm sorry die hard Nintendo fans..
Mario Kart 8 is just lacking in creativity.
First the cat suit for Mario, then Metal Mario, Regular Mario, and Baby Mario.
Gold Peach....? Peach. Baby Peach.
Come on Nintendo.. My 6 year old sister can come up with better ideas than this.
I don't know what to say other than rotten tomatoes.
The Mercedes DLC? Are 20 year olds playing this game?
I don't know how I feel about these ideas. I mean. They suck. What is Nintendo planning to do? Why not add King Boo, Birdo, Bowser Jr? All the classics that appeared in previous Nintendo games. One thing about Nintendo is that they never come up with something fresh. Ever since the SNES and the 64, they have been sticking with the same thing. And now they dip their toe in the waters of Mario Kart 8. I mean sure these characters are new but who wants to drive a damn car that doesn't look special and cool. I don't know.. Maybe I'm ogre reacting..

Nobody's forcing you to play as those characters or get the DLC. Having those things in the game doesn't degrade the overall quality of said game. If you spent less time complaining about them, you might enjoy the game more.

Don't buy the DLC packs or wait for other DLC packs to release then.

I'm not sure if DLC is what I'd consider going in the right direction, but Mario Kart 8 is the best Mario Kart game yet IMO.

Who says I didn't like them? Don't you think instead of basically new skin textures they can be a little more creative with the roster? Just a little? Hm?

The fact that its DLC is fine. But they just did it for the advertising, which goes to show how desperate they are for a little extra money.. There is way much more to complain about Mario Kart 8. Like the functionality and what not. And the freaking Koopalings practically take up 1/3 of the roster. The majority of the characters could have been swapped out for more classical ones.

Yeah, giving Peach and Mario metal skins isn't really the most creative thing, but who cares? At the same time, we get Link and Animal Crossing characters. We'll also be getting F-Zero, Zelda and Animal Crossing tracks and karts. It's only "unoriginal" because of these few characters people think are a waste because they look similar.

I agree that they should have brought back some characters like Dry Bones or King Boo, but I'm fine with the characters we did get. Complaining about the ones that aren't there is just wasting your time. Them not being there doesn't make this game a "joke". (if anything I'd say the new Battle Mode does) At the very least we can hope they will bring them back in the future as DLC considering Dry Bowser is back. But I guess he doesn't count either since he's also a re-skin, right?

Money or not, kids love the Mercedes cars. My nieces always play with the Mercedes cars because it's "cooler to drive in a real car" As free DLC, it's pretty great IMO.

And the Koopalings really comes down to if you like them or not. I love those guys, so they're definitely not a waste of space for me. But each to their own.

Mario Kart 8 has the most creativity in its courses in Mario Kart history. Hands down. Characters are icing on the cake. I honestly don't care about them so much. Nintendo can pour their hearts into the next Mario Kart but only include Yoshi as a character and I'll be the happiest person alive.

Even in terms of Mario Kart 8, there are, which only adds to how annoying and pathetic this is.

I agree with your criticism. The roster is terrible. Way too many Babies and Mario/Peach variations. Especially if you consider that there are so many other characters that have been left out like Birdo, Bowser Jr., Diddie, Dry Bones, etc. However, I don't think MK8 feels like a joke. It's a good game.

On a side note: I'm quite shocked about your choice of words and aggressive use of questions. I didn't know kids behave like this these days

I've done my fair share complaining about Nintendo not being creative in it's games from 2012-2014. SM3DW, NSMBU, NSLU, Pikmin 3, Game & Wario- Like everything they put out was bland and vanilla to me. Just more of the same, but at the most basic level from them.

Mario Kart 8, however, does not fall into the above category for me. MK is one of those series that it is what it is. It HAS to be, or it wouldn't be Mario Kart. Things like how characters don't even matter in a game like that to me. I actually think it's cool having the Koopa Kids. There are a lot, but I guess

if you're going to add them, you need to add them all. It might've been cool to make them one character all stacked on top of each other but that'd probably be tough or impossible to do.

As far as Gold and Baby Peach? Well, MK attracts a lot of girls, which is going to include a good amount of girls, and they're going to want variety to play as. MK, or most video game worlds for that matter, aren't exactly overflowing with females.

Mario Kart 8 plays so smooth, it looks great, it's fun as all hell. To me, it combines everything good from the past titles. I'm extremely happy with it.

Since these variations results in quite different driving due to their weight, I don't think the characters are wasted.

FWIW, I'm surprised that among all the possibilities available, people can't even find one setup that they like to use.

I agree about the Mario/Peach thing, but that doesn't mean it's a joke.

Why complain about something that doesn't impact on your ability to play as the characters you want? It's not like adding characters in itself stops you from playing the characters in there that you do like. So why all the whine? Seems a bit stupid to me.

I don't care to be honest as I only ever use luigi, however he could be ousted by the villager or link when they arrive

I feel like we've already been through the "why are there so many versions of the same character?" phase.
I generally just play as Luigi, or Rosalina so.....
