I Feel like sharing some more of my races from MK8.
This one has some awesome moments
And this one is one of the few flawless races where I don't get hit a single time. Very hard to pull that off in a Mario Kart game...and very rare for me.
menus - little thing, but annoying. Yes in on the right, not left as usual, first is "highlights" and not "next race". Not that annoying, but it can be fixed.
online - there are sometimes connecting issues, which is fine I guess, because it doesn't occur constantly, but the most annoying thing is that the game is not showing servers on which you can play, instead, it chooses them for you. That would be fine if not for one thing - you have to sit and watch others have fun. More often than not I've got to the beggining of the race, and guess how much fun is waiting for your turn watching others go 3 laps. It also likes to chose games with 3 or 4 people, which is sad.
I don't know if it's cheaters or bug exploit, but I saw multiple times guys getting hit with all kinds of shells, bombs, falling of the road and STILL not slow down at all. I saw the coins, but not the guy stopping. I also don't know how knocking back works - sometimes other players hit so hard you fall off the other side of the track, which is radiciulous.
@Dave24 Lag. Its not hax or a bug, its sheer lag. And its extremely shameful. What I've been told, though, is that if you set up your Wii U through a DMZ on your router, a lot of the lag issues and disconnects go away. Something to do with the firewall our something.
@Dave24 Yup, UGXwolf is right, it's lag alright and it sucks! Thankfully I rarely get lag when I played but when I do I usually just don't bother trying to hit anyone and play defense the entire race instead because lag seriously throws my strategy off by making me miss time everything >_<. If the lag persists into the next race I simply exit the room and enter a new one and usually sets me up with a better connection. At least it seems like it from my experience so far with the game.
It is not the lag - the lag is when there is no input from the game what so ever, so everything should stand in it's place, because there is nothing to show when there is a lag - no input from the server.
If it was a lag, than my place should go to the last or not update at all. But it's my first time with online Mario Kart, so I don't know

I think Mario Kart uses a "predictive" algorithm when there is lag. Instead of just staying still when there is lag, the game assumes what the driver is doing, which is why you see a lot of people fall off cliffs, but appear back on quickly, or not getting hit by shells.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

Yes it is predicting where all the races are which is why sometimes the lag was so bad din 7 that it would tell you you were 1st and then change to 2nd after crossing the finish line.
As much as I love the game, I'm on the verge of just giving up on it altogether.
I can rarely seem to get through a single race online without severe lag completely messing me up... It's just really frustrating and not fun at all.
At least Mario Kart 7's online was enjoyable most of the time, maybe I should just go back to that if I want to play Mario Kart.
I don't get many connection errors, but the lag is intolerable.
Unfortunately playing Regional doesn't really seem to help much I don't think, because I'm in Australia and just paired up with a bunch of players from Europe (when I can even find a group).
1) Star Cup-I really enjoy all the tracks in this cup though Dolphin Shoals is really hard to get first place on in 150cc at least.
2) Lightning Cup-all the tracks in this cup look amazing in HD and are all really great choices especially Piranha Plant Slide and Rainbow Road (out of all the courses in this cup I would replace Wii Grumble Volcano with Wii Bowser's Castle)
3) Leaf Cup-this would've been second but with Music Park's only change being a graphical update, it's hard to place it there (out of all the courses in this cup I would replace 3DS Music Park with 3DS Rock Rock Mountain)
4) Special Cup-The new Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road are awesome but...Bone Dry Dunes sigh
5) Mushroom Cup-surprisingly good tracks in this one. The only that is "Meh" to me is Sweet Sweet Canyon. Mario Kart Stadium is a great starter track.
6) Shell Cup-really great choices here though I'm a bit puzzled with the Super Circuit pick (out of all the courses in this cup I would replace GBA Mario Circuit with GBA Sunset Wilds, or Sky Garden, or Cheese Land, or really any other unique GBA track that is not a Bowser Castle)
7) Flower Cup-not that fond of Mario Circuit at all, it's way too basic for the Flower Cup but Shy Guy Falls is excellent
8) Banana Cup-Dry Dry Desert. 'Nuff said. (out of all the courses in this cup I would replace GCN Dry Dry Desert with Wii Toad's Factory because that course is awesome).

Best to worst cups for me:
1. Special Cup - Really like all the tracks
2. Star Cup - Three great tracks, but Dolphin Shoals lets it down
3. Mushroom Cup - Good early game cup, besides Water Park which is pretty boring
4. Lightning Cup - Ignoring Grumble Volcano, really solid.
5. Leaf Cup - Besides Melody Motorway which hasn't changed much, a pretty fun one
6. Banana Cup - Not the most exciting cup, but Royal Raceway makes up for it
7. Flower Cup - Decent tracks but no real standouts
8. Shell Cup - Some decent tracks, but nothing too exciting and Cheep Cheep Beach pushes to the bottom

I'm very upset at the lack of stats in this game... I'm sure there's only a select few who share this sentiment, but Nintendo could have given us something. Aside from the friends win/loss record (which is appreciated) and the VR, there's absolutely nothing. A win/loss record doesn't really make sense, considering the number of racers, but what about a histogram that kept track of how many times you got 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc? That'd be awesome! It would be even better if it also kept track of your performance in a similar fashion for each track. I'd love to look at my history at Royal Raceway (one of my favorites and one I feel I generally do pretty well on) to see just how well I perform there. This was a missed opportunity by Nintendo that really takes away a lot of the fun of online racing for me.
Edit: I just remembered that some histograms are already in the game; they are displayed when you select a track in Time Trials. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to take these existing histograms and create new ones to save online stats.
Star Cup - Amazing new courses. Fell in love with Mount Wario from the first time seeing it. Still in love with it. Sunshine Airport is always good. So is Electrodrome. Dolphin Shoals... DAT SAX!
Leaf Cup - Call me nostalgic, but this cup wins on Yoshi's Valley alone. I also really like Music Park and Sherbet Land, but I never had MK7, so that may be why.
Lightning Cup - A close second for retro courses. They even made me love Grumble Volcano, which was one of my least favorite tracks in MK Wii. The redone Rainbow Road is phenomenal.
Special Cup - I still love this cup, but it just can't compare to any of the above. The new Rainbow Road is deceptively fun, and I'm always game for a race in Bowser's Castle.
Flower Cup - Wasn't hyped for this because the majority of the courses were available at E3, last year, but aside from Toad Harbor, which is potentially one of the most over-hyped courses in Mario Kart history, I really love this cup. Mario Circuit is always a blast, Twisted Mansion is pretty amusing, and I adore Shy Guy Falls.
Shell Cup - This one barely got into sixth. I don't really love the majority of this cup, but I guess that's to be expected. Moo Moo Meadows has great music and Toad's Turnpike is pretty fun, but this is a bit of a snooze fest for me.
Mushroom Cup - Two words: Water Park. The majority of the courses don't really excite me. Mario Kart Stadium is a great start, but everything else gets old pretty fast.
Banana Cup - Everyone's least favorite, and get this, it's not even because of the desert stage for me. There's so little of interest in this cup that I legitimately dread playing it in Grand Prix mode. Aside from Dry Dry Desert, Royal Raceway is fairly uninteresting and Donut Plains 3 is a total bore. Even DK Jungle barely manages to interest me. Overall, a really boring cup.
This would probably be my order, roughly... New tracks
1. Cloudtop Cruise
2. Rainbow Road
3. Mount Wario
4. Electrodrome
5. Sweet Sweet Canyon
6. Sunshine Airport
7. Thwomp Ruins
8. Bony-Dry Dunes
9. Bowser's Castle
10. Shy Guy Falls
11. Twisted Mansion
12. Toad Harbour
13. Mario Circuit
14. Mario Kart Stadium
15. Water Park
16. Dolphin Shoals
I hate Nintendo's online approach. It doesn't often favor competition. We get bits and pieces and that's it. I also want to know my record online. How many times I finished in what place would be great. Kid Icarus was about as good as it gets from them with online stats!
