It doesn't seem that MK8 has done much to help Wii U sales in Japan 350k units of software sold but less than 20k consoles. I was sure Japan was going to eat this up as there's been a lot of media coverage of big lines at stores with demo events.
There didn't seem to be as much effort to sell systems in Japan as there was over here, no bundles or free game promotions as far as I know. The system itself never charted particularly high even while MK8 is dominating the charts. Couple that with lots of Wii U bundles being phased out and the slump console sales are facing in the region right now (PS4 is doing way worse than Wii U through the same point). But who knows, maybe it's a slow burner.
U.S and Europe seem to produce good results though.
I wouldn't know how to feel if this happened to me:
something similar to happened to me in Mario kart wii except the person stopped at the finish line and hit me with a shell causing me to somersault over the person thus coming in first.
..anyone else a little happy when they are trying for a three star ranking in a grand prix but end up losing a race or something, thus making you have to play it over again? I find it a good excuse to play more Mario Kart..

Is the internet on the Wii U working for everybody okay?
I can't seem to get it to connect to the internet, even though my Wii U did an system update this morning. :/
I've been really enjoying playing battle mode all night.
It feels a lot more strategic compared to the previous battle modes, especially if you start taking advantage of the fact that item boxes don't respawn when you're too close.
I've had a few times where I've spent a whole battle just guarding a set of item boxes with it paying off really well.
Just another small detail I noticed is that on retro tracks, the old style Mario Kart logo appears on the starting line. Thought that was a nice touch.

I find it really frustrating that it isn't possible to change character and vehicle/experiment with your setup once youve joined a lobby. Have to exit out each time
Also, does anyone know if there's an options menu to be found anywhere? Would love to turn up the music
At the very least they should do Like Mario Golf and let us save 3 set ups to change from. Just say use the shoulder buttons in the lobby to change from your 3 favorites.
That would be a perfectly fine way to do it Leaving good lobbies/players to change one's setup is kinda sad :/
The idea is that you are joining 1 long GP. That is why you don't get to switch karts. The only way to change your setup is by leaving 1 GP and changing it then joining another GP
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I have been using bikes with Yoshi. The Sports Bikes can turn much quicker and I find gaining the orange drift boost to be faster with the Sports Bikes

This Luigi death stare stuff reminds me of the jokes surrounding the villager after that SSB announcement. Nintendo's characters really can look quite expressive.

@DefHalen Same, not to mention that inside drifting bikes do handle corners better, you just have to be able to anticipate them, because inside drifting is really odd, in this game.
