@DBPirate: There's Shy Guy Bazaar. I agree that Dry Dry Ruins is the best desert track; there's all kinds of wild tricks you could pull off there. That would've been a better choice than Dry Dry Desert.
There does seem to be a lack of Wii tracks. I noticed each Mario Kart has four tracks from the past two games. Mario Kart 7 had four tracks each from Wii and DS. Mario Kart Wii had four tracks each from DS and Double Dash. I think Dry Dry Ruins would've been a pretty good choice but I would've rather seen Toad's Factory. Didn't really like Shy Guy Bazaar. The Mushroom Cup in MK7 wasn't that great. All the other cups I enjoyed though.

"Skip it and go to 150cc as 3 starring that counts for 100cc and 50cc"
Hmm, I didn't know that.
As for the controls: They feel pretty fine. The bad point is that bikes feel very similar to karts this time, but the good point is that the karts don't feel bad like they did in Mariokart Wii! Hint for the next Mariokart: Make the bikes as unstable as they where in Mariokart Wii (with wheelies)! I liked that! You could make very sharp turns!
As for my character to go: I used Waluigi for a time, and Larry Koopa, but now I just use my Mii character since he seems to be much quicker!
I have a quick question: I linked my MK8 Wii U bundle on Club Nintendo and didn't receive any Club Nintendo coins for it. I did get the free game download code, but I assumed you got the 160 coins from registering a Wii U as well. Is that false? Thanks

It takes a little while to get the survey for the coins for the system.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
What Would Duane Do? Rynoggery
Couple things that have recently begun to irritate me:
Renegade green shells bouncing around erratically (that were clearly not aimed) are suspiciously talented at ricocheting into isolated karts after several bounces. This can be extremely frustrating, especially when you get hit when you're already immobilized and can't do anything about it. I expect a certain amount of that in a Mario Kart game, but like I said, its frequency is suspicious.
Also, in this game it seems significantly more difficult to catch up to the rest of the pack if you get pummeled and sent to the back. This isn't a rare occurrence, it happens very frequently. Even if I drive flawlessly and get a star or several mushrooms, I'll still be far behind the front four or five racers. Obviously you can chalk most of this up to quality racing from the top drivers (and I'm merely an average Mario Karter myself) but it's something I've been constantly noticing, and it bugs me a bit.
I also consistently get terrible items when I'm lagging behind. A green shell or a banana peel or a single mushroom isn't going to do jack for me. Obviously there's some RNG involved from player to player so some of you will probably have had different experiences, but that's been mine.
But a couple of things I'm really digging:
I love that Nintendo's made it (more) possible to dodge red shells with driving skills. I can take a corner more tightly than I usually would or hug a wall or swerve around a banana peel to stop it, and that's just awesome. Whenever I can pull it off I feel like I tricked a couple of guided missiles into slamming into an obstacle, and it's pretty sweet.
Blue shells are less frequent, which is great, and the new horn is awesome, though I think it's a little bit too rare.
It's nice that Nintendo's made the game a little more fair for players in first (if I can get a decent lead I almost always finish in 1st, or at least the top 3) and reward great driving, but they also made the game more frustrating for people in the middle of the pack. I feel like they could achieve a much better balance here.
Edit: I also hate how an increasingly small pool of tracks is being offered as the 3 choices in online mode.
I got the game! It's lived up to the hype, I'm loving it! The new tracks are amazing. I really have to apologize to the new RR too. I see a lot of people standing by their hate, but I really enjoyed my first race on it. The graphics are amazing and I'm having sooo much fun. Can't wait to race you guys.
Jokers shall be fooled.
And Queens will be dethroned! ok not really Emmy don't kill me D:
I played online for the first time today.... I experienced some races with people all across the world...
Its a really fun and addicting and fustrating experience.
One second you're doing really good and the next second... BAM! You're doing bad.
One second you're doing really bad and the next second.. BAM! You're doing good.
Getting hit by random items can cause a guy to rage. Hahah
I luved it though. So addicting. Even when I lost... I still wanted to play more.

Hahah yeah. Green shells are a double edged sword.
Hopefully we'll see DLC at E3.

Hey everyone, I helped put together a review on Mario Kart 8 and you can find the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9ZFAO5zfQk. I am working with The Grid Gaming Network and we're just getting started and we'll be having big giveaways including consoles, games, etc. In order to enter into these giveaways you have to subscribe to https://www.youtube.com/user/GridGamingNetwork by Friday! Come check us out!
Man, is anyone else having problems online? It seems like it just keeps getting worse. The first day I played online it worked great, the next day I had a couple of communication errors, then the next day I had quite a few communication errors, and today I tried playing with a friend but got connection errors out the wazoo and didn't even get to race each other once before we gave up. I hope it's not my internet...
@Rosalina: Funny you mention the slipperiness of Bone-Dry Dunes, because I've gotten quite good at sliding by the wall past the first bridge and by the first Bone Piranha Plant to boost straight into the anti-gravity part with the bone-spinners. Sorry if that was complicated to describe, but believe me, it's a big, sliding curve.
I understand what you mean. The slipperiness is somewhat helpful for when I wanna drift on the right side of the Piranha Plant into the anti-gravity part.
Makes it a lot shorter than having to go around from the left. The main issue I have with this track is the left turn after the gliding section. That huge left turn is extremely slippery when drifting, or just turning for that matter. I learned how to drift that turn properly, but it's still annoying.

For the record, Banana and Flower Cups are easily my least favorite.
Ugh. Same here too. Whenever I see those tracks online, I try to avoid them, as they're not that fun. If I'm forced to pick them online, I'd mostly pick random. The only ones I'd ever pick (if there's no other choice) would be Shy Guy Falls, for the music, and DK Jungle, because it's almost a guaranteed 1st place win online. I had such a hard time beating the Banana Cup in Mirror Mode because of the awful Dry Dry Desert.
Favorite Cups & Tracks (in order): 1 is best, 4 is least best.
1) Star Cup - Mount Wario definitely takes the cake as the best track in the game. The rest are also fantastic.
2) Lightning Cup - Grumble Volcano is almost an instant win online & offline, and N64 Rainbow is definitely the most gorgeous track in the entire game. Tick-Tock Clock is surprisingly good because of its complex design for a retro track.
3) Leaf Cup - I prefer Yoshi Valley over the other ones in this cup, even though they're on par with this one. The the track that leaves a sour noteSee what I did there? is Music Park. The reason it's kinda bad is because it's generally the same as it was in the 3DS. People even rarely picked it online on the 3DS.
4) Special Cup - It's not exactly a mind blower like the other cups, but it does well in all its tracks but two. Bowser's Castle and Cloudtop Cruise are the best in this cup. Rainbow Road suffers because of one reason; track design. Its visual / art design is good overall, but it feels like there could have been more. Bone-Dry Dunes, unfortunately, is a serious detriment to the cup as a whole. I've explain why in my previous post why.
Least Favorite Cups & Tracks (in order):
5) Mushroom Cup - For the first time in Mario Kart, I actually like the tracks from here. Mario Kart Stadium is such a great way to start off your first time playing Mario Kart 8, or Mario Kart in general if you're new to the series. Water Park (what kind of name is that?!) is so boring and generally bland overall; there's really nothing going for it.
6) Shell Cup - Pretty decent overall. Nothing stands out that much. I'd prefer Cheep Cheep Beach or Toad's Turnpike over Moo Moo Meadows and GBA Mario Circuit.
7) Flower Cup - The only ones that are okay would be Mario Circuit and Shy Guy Falls. I'd only pick them for their catchy music. Twisted Mansion is just a joke to me. It's rarely picked online, and the music is very underwhelming.
8) Banana Cup - The most boring out of all the cups. The main thing you're doing the whole time is drifting from left to right, which gets tiring, and it has one of the worst tracks in the game, Dry Dry Desert. I loved it in Double Dash, but the way it got carried over to MK8 was terrible. The main mechanic from this track is gone, the tornadoes. They could have made them into gliding parts by having you lifted into the air, and since the sand is so slippery, its tight turns are also gone. Plus, the COM are always able to take the turns perfectly, no matter what kart, and that is terrible.
The only good one is DK Jungle because it's almost an instant win online & offline. The difficultly in Hard COM dramatically decreases because of the routes the AI takes.

@DBPirate: Toad's Factory would've been a great choice for another Wii track.
If I could choose just one more retro track, though, I'd include 3DS Rock Rock Mountain. Anti-gravity would have been cool there. A remastered Shy Guy Bazaar would be pretty cool, I think.
I actually don't mind the absence of a retro Bowser's Castle, especially if it was another bland GBA or a SNES one. If it couldn't have been one of those, I would've picked the Wii one.
Yes, Rock Rock Mountain would have been perfect. I do agree that Shy Guy Bazaar would be better, if only slightly. Better to get its remake out of the way quickly. I'd rather Toad's Factory be in Mario Kart 10 than 9. I don't want to see it on a handheld.
