But even if we support them how can they be successful without Nintendo pushing them as well. Take something like the Wonderful 101, why didn't Nintendo take advantage its summer release date meant a ton of kids would see the game on TV since they're home all day. Do a promotion with the game with say Nick during Power Rangers or with Cartoon Network doing the DC nation block. Its not that hard to do cross promotion between brands.

because there isn't enough of a fanbase on Wii U for Wonderful 101 to have a chance to be successful regardless of what they do (and even when they do try to make niche games succeed with tons of money and effort people don't buy them, see: Sin and Punishment 2). There is nothing that was going to make the game a big success, and any attempt to do so would be a waste of money. It sucks but there is nothing that would have made that game a success.

It sold in the tens of thousands. That is pitiful for how good of a game it is. If it had some hype and advertising behind it, would it have been a million seller? No...but it could have at least been respectable and done around 150-200K in sales.

Having said that though, the game is VERY hard to describe, and really needs to be experienced to understand what it is. It's also quite difficult too, so even though it looks bright and cartoony, I think most novice gamers aged 7-10 would have a lot of trouble progressing in it.

I imagine if the original idea of using famous Nintendo characters was green-lighted the game would have sold a heck of a lot more. But it wouldn't have been a completely new IP in the purest sense and would probably have ended up as a Smash Bros. look-alike.

I don't understand this. The sales of 3D world look very impressive for Japan. Why are people so down on this? In a few weeks it'll sell even more. Why guys why?????

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

The game sold just shy of 250,000 copies in America which I think? Is pretty decent.

Combine that with the 99k from Japan.

I guess maybe it will sell 50k in the UK?

Altogether, that's a worldwide sale of 400,000 copies (total rough guess) which I wouldn't really say is too bad at all, especially when it had to compete against two new consoles launching and a smallish user base.

It's a bit stupid and crazy to talk about sales numbers. That's not possible at all.

Mario could sell 200k retail copies and 450k digital copies for example and we would be still talking about RETAIL sales.

Another example: I've been buying Retail (in store) games before but now I'm 90% digital, does that mean I am not buying games anymore?
Several people I know has bought Digital version of 3D World. I can only imagine how many people bought digital version... thousands... hundreds of thousands.

Actually 4.1 now

In a last few months I had policy "Nintendo = Digital, 3rd Party = Retail Disc" but since there is almost 0 3rd party software I am going FULL DIGITAL except Activision games "Unfortunatly"

It would be great if Nintendo post 3D World digital sales by region, then we can talk about sales.

I doubt that so much probably more like 1% of Wii U owners are digital only.

240k first week in the US is pretty good.

3D Land FW (2 million 3DS's) - 300k
3D World FW (1.5 million WiiU's) - 240k

20% less sales with 25% smaller install base.

The rest of Europe plus Australia should push it past 450k if that were to be the case.

Yeah I know mate, I was just allowing for about 500,000 users that are stuck in the past with their inferior physical discs

Well digital sales were about 10% of their total software revenue early this year. So it's probably reasonably safe to assume that digital sales are <10% of total sales for the average title. Although they could be more for a Nintendo titles even ones that aren't named Animal Crossing, Mario Kart or Pokemon purely because of the long shelf life of Nintendo products.

5-15%? Somewhere around there. Either way those are nice numbers for both Mario and Zelda in the US. It's double Wind Waker's numbers and in recent months is only significantly beaten by Pokemon, GTA and CoD.

Because people were expecting Mario to sell systems, since they forgot that home consoles have become less important in Japan over the years. They see it as proof that the Wii U will have to be carried in the west, when in reality, that's always been the case for Nintendo and all the other manufacturers.

It depends on how you look at it. 3 out of 14 games of mine are discs, and that's because they were ONLY available as a disc. In the case of Nintendo Land, I couldn't justify buying it for $30-60 after selling my copy for $5.

So really, the discs I have were only available as discs. It's technically impossible to be 100% digital on Wii U if you want to buy a game like Disney Infinity, Skylanders, Mass Effect 3, etc.

Even with VC games, we might as well bring cartridges into the argument.
