Topic: Major Update Delayed

Posts 1 to 20 of 28

I just booted up my Wii U and was surprised by a system update being installed. After not seeing any major noticeable change, I did a little googling. The summer update is now going live in between late September - early October. This update improved stability, spotpass, and software updates are to occur while the system is powered down. They may be unrelated but I suspect the N64 GBA VC games may not come this summer.

I doesn't sound too major but I still want something that's mind-blowing like new software

I hope we see the promised GBA games soon, that'll not only add plenty more to the VC list of games we need, but I like to think we'll get more VC games each week.

There is no reason for Nintendo to only be releasing one VC game a week. That's pathetic.

I wonder what the big update will be. I haven't had my expectations high at all for any of these updates. Netflix still crashes on me after the latest update (yesterday), so I'm definitely not having high expectations for the next one.

Netflix freezes because Netflix Co. or whatever didn't optimize it very well. I could be watching movies in 5.1 PCM on Wii U if Netflix was up to date. That isn't Nintendo's fault. They obviously support Netflix, but it's ultimately up to Netfix to get their app running.
Same goes for Youtube.

As for VC thing. I really could care less. It's a cool service, but a new game will always get my attention first and foremost. Plus, Wii VC is still there.

EDIT: They can't release too many VC games, because it would flood the eShop. It needs to have a balance between old games and new games. If they released more than they did now, the entire eShop would be nothing but VC.

I also could care less about the Wii U VC. It's by far one of my favourite features of the eShop, I hope they increase the pace of content rollout on it.

I understand that Netflix is in charge of their app, but the Wii U update was supposed to fix "system stability." Netflix crashing while loading is the only issue I have with the system's stability. In fact, I was actually able to get Netflix to load for the first time every time for the past two days before the update. But then once we got the update, it started crashing again.

Do you mean you couldn't care less? Because you could care less then that means you do care. Sorry for the nitpicking, but that one always bothers me when people say that. It's like you don't even know what you're saying. Anyway....

New games are awesome. The problem is that they are far and few between. Some awesome VC titles (which they definitely have access to) would really help with the wait. And yes, there is Wii VC, but what I'm really waiting for is games that aren't on the Wii VC yet (GBA, n64, gamecube?).

The Netflix app has frozen on me multiple times. It can't sync to the memory file or something... That is definitely Netflix's fault.

As for VC. It's not that I completely don't care. It's just that it's obviously not as important to Nintendo as other things are. They could literally release 100 VC games on the eShop next Thursday, but people are not as likely to buy a ton of games all at once, vs. showing you 1-3 games to focus on for that week, and think about on a deeper levelthan if they just threw 100 in your face all at once.

The YouTube app on my Xbox 360 sucks. Major framerate drops after watching too many videos are common (restarting the app fixes it) & a terrible UI are things you must bear through to use it. I even like the Wii's YouTube app better, & it buffers a lot. I doubt it's that there's something wrong w/ the Xbox 360. Google could do better. It's not much of a stretch for Netflix to do the same. Last update to Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition ran great, but the newest so-called "bug fix update" lags a lot & introduced new glitches & brought back old ones too. System software can be just as big a factor as the games & apps as well. Of course, I don't have a Wii U, so maybe it is it, but if it's just Netflix, I'd say it has issues.

Youtube works better by going to the website in the browser. You'll have more content as well.

First off - its 'I couldn't care less'. I could care less implies you care somewhat thus making the statement redundant. Sorry, had to get that out of the way first. :3

Having more VC games on the eShop wouldn't discourage people from buying other games, and even if it just meant people bought VC instead it wouldn't really matter - Nintendo sees profit either way. Wii VC already being there is all the more reason for Nintendo to be porting the games to the Wii U faster.

There is middle ground between releasing 1 game a week, and 100 of them. Chances are, if Nintendo releases 3-5 VC titles a week, I'd buy one of them. I'm not inclined to buy VC titles I'm not interested in, even if they're all that's available. With the Wii U having the terrible game drought at the moment, it could at least make up for that with a substantial VC collection.

I understand the "I could care less" statement completely, that why I told DudeSean I still do care, just not to that much of an extent.
It really depends on the person, but I think the slow VC releases are fine. I'm not one to get riled up over much of anything.

I thought that made sense how they could be trying to focus your attention on specific titles, though...

I still don't know much that was coming in the delayed "summer update", so I couldn't care less about them delaying it.

Still, the VC thing does honestly irk me. I defended Nintendo's VC long after they deserved it and honestly, they have made poor business decisions with it. Yes, flooding the eShop with 100 titles in a day would be stupid and hurt them in terms of profit, but 1-2 a week isn't much better. I know people who don't even check what VC is released every week anymore because there rarely is something they actually want to pay money for. And I rarely purchase any of it either because the titles I'd want are so few and far between. With the slow start the Wii U has had, Nintendo could really use the revenue that a bigger VC would give, and it doesn't take many resources. At the very least they have ROMs already dumped for all the titles released on the Wii VC (and likely more than even that) and they have working Wii U emulators for the NES and SNES, and while they tweak the emulators to be tailored to each individual game, it really isn't a lot of work to do so for most games. I still can excuse most of Nintendo's mistakes this generation, they've admitted they underestimated the resources required for development of HD games and they are trying to follow up to a console that got incredibly lucky with nongamers. Still, they really need to change their strategy for the VC.

1-3 games? I'd kill for 3 VC games a week at this point.

And I know that the Netflix app crashing is Netflix's fault. But that doesn't mean Nintendo can't do something to help.

If you follow my Backloggery, you'll know that the Wii U version of Skylanders has been freezing like crazy for me. I suspect that's because of the game itself and I'm starting to completely give up on getting to play it, because all of my other games work fine. Even the Wii version of Skylanders on my Wii U is working fine. I hope that this new update can help stabilise things.

My guess for the delay of the update is that there is something a bit bigger or new in there so they are delaying it and sending what they have done so far through the door.

I really want to see Gamecube VC

Are these updates actually installing emulators on the Wii U? We needed an update just to be able to get the NES and SNES games on there. So maybe we need another update which installs emulators for the other systems? But... shouldn't it be easy to port these emulators from the Wii to Wii U? I mean, the emulators are already working on the Wii U in Wii mode. Shouldn't Nintendo have made emulators for the different systems a long time ago? Like, before the Wii U was even released?
