Topic: Major Advertising Push for SSBU?

So, I've been watching TV all day (Comedy Central) and SSB for Wii U ads have been on atleast every other commercial set. I've seen it probably 25 times today. This makes me very happy, as it's the first advertising push I've EVER seen for the Wii U in just over 2 years. I'm just wondering how many other people have seen this, and if it's as frequent. Obviously, it can't just be Comedy Central.

We thought Pikmin3 could be the first hit with an advertising push, but we were disappointed.
We thought Mario 3d World could be the first hit with an advertising push, but, again...
DKC: Tropical Freeze, even Nintendo Land and NSMBU to start the system off got NOTHING.
Even Mario Kart 8 seemed to coast off of "It's Mario Kart, it'll sell no matter what..." mentality.

This could be the reasoning Smash is getting such a big push. Nintendo is figuring that if Kart didn't sell without advertising, Smash won't either (as nothing will, obvioulsly, after 2 years of constant mediocre sales at best)

Is Nintendo going all out now that it has it's first major blockbuster?

@LetsGoRetro DKC Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, and Mario Kart 8 all had TV commercials. Kart had several of them in fact, and it was even a preview in movie theaters for the premiere of Godzilla (horrible movie, but plenty went out to go see it).

IceClimbers,

DKC, Pikmin3, 3dW and MK8 all had advertising campaigns primarily online, on gaming websites, etc. Basically limited, specialized advertising that was mainly being seen by people like us who follow this stuff religiously and were going to buy it anyway. Smash is having a full blown, on multiple channels all day, old fashioned advertising campaign it seems.

The games you mentioned, I'm almost positive, were nowhere near this level of exposure ad-wise.

Super Mario 3D World ads and Wii U debut ads were also considerably common in their respective seasons.
I still can't get that awful Wii U commercial music out of my head.

3D World and Mario Kart 8 DID get ads on TV. But only on Nickelodeon, Disney XD, Cartoon Network, and ABC Family.

I doubt Nintendo will have a 'big' push for Smash. Like all of their big games, they are gonna have commercials, but Nintendo is not going to spend the money on any 'massive' advertising push for WiiU as they are focused on making quarterly profits after almost 2 years of losses. I do expect to see Smash appear on Jimmy Fallon though!...

Those commercials reminded me of just how poor the Wii U's launch lineup was. I definitely picked up a Wii U at the right time (September 2013).

@IceClimbers,

I literally never saw those commercials anywhere but online, like you are posting them now. Never once on TV. And when each one of these games was released, everyone was on these boards talking about how they weren't seeing them either and Nintendo was doing a terrible job at advertising. I'm not sure why in retrospect, everyone is acting like this didn't happen, but you couldn't find a Wii U ad anywhere, and now I'm seeing Smash ads on multiple channels every day.

The Wii U had an okay line-up (NSMBU and Nintendo Land), but god were those ads terrible.

I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

Those commercials made me not want to buy a Wiiu.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed: Revelations & Watch Dogs 2

Although I don't care that much about Nintendo sales/advertising, I think the reverse is true regarding advertising. I agree that now is the time for them to make profits on the Wii U. But a company always wants to make profits, but Nintendo is more long-term than quarterly profits/losses. There were virtually no way for Nintendo to make money on the Wii U during the first year (the console was sold at a loss and there were way too few 1st party games to bring in any big money). Now, when there are quite a number of good 1st/2nd party titles and the console is sold at a profit, would be the logical time to advertise the products.

Same. I've only seen commercials for Mario Kart 8, and they were ... meh. And I only saw them sporadically. I haven't seen the Smash ones either, yet.
