Topic: LostWinds Transfer?

Posts 1 to 20 of 30

I was thinking of transfering my Wii data to my Wii U for when/if they update the old VC. I was looking around trying to find out if after the transfer if I could still get downloadable games on my Wii. I was on the Nintendo website and found a list of things that don't transfer and LostWinds is on that list. Is this true? Will LostWinds not transfer to my Wii U? Has anyone transferred LostWinds to their Wii U?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yeah. For some reason it's unable to be transferred atm, but Nintendo said they are working on a fix for it

It was the first WiiWare game, wasn't it? Not sure if that would have anything to do with it.

I'm sure it does. It was pretty advanced for being the first Wii Ware game. I was excited to see what it was, but was disappointed by this game actually. The gameplay and atmospheric graphics/music were pretty good, but it was too slow to me That didn't stop others from liking it, but I wouldn't say it's worth stopping you from transferring. It was probably designed so specifically for Wii, that the emulator on Wii U couldn't run it... It will stay on your Wii after the transfer, so all is not lost for someone wondering.

lol. Lost Winds was so specifically designed for Wii that the Wii U's Wii emulator couldn't run it, which is specifically made to run software designed for the Wii, and is capable of transferring every other game and correctly play every retail game.

Sorry. I just don't think that's the case.

Well, what do you think then? That's literally the only game that didn't make 'the cut'. I honestly think the emulator can't run it.

It might come down to Wii's hardware differences. The Wii U doesn't have GCN ports(obviously), but the Wii must have had a specific piece of hardware to run the game, that isn't in Wii U, as much as Wii U is more advanced. They even chaged the control scheme for Mario Kart 64. You can't use the GCN controller for that game, and changed the button layout for classic controllers on that game compared to the original N64. I had the N64 copy of Mario Kart 64, and the age of the cartridges showed vs. the VC version. With my seup, I'm playing Wii/VC games in 1080p, and my old cartridge of the game was glitched by being old. My brother was in first place and 'dodged' a lighting bolt, plus the red shells no londer locked on. This IS relevant to Lost Winds not making it to Wii U, except that it applied to Wii having something the Wii U didn't.

Yeah... no. I have no idea why it doesn't run, but there is no way your answer is correct.

Link goes here now.
Screw you.

Well, no one else has any idea. You almost agreed, but then said no. Haha...

No, I mean, I guess it's possible the emulator can't run it. Although I don't think that's what it is, but it's possible. What I thought was funny was why you said it wouldn't work on the emulator: because it was designed so specifically for the wii.

Could be. Xbox 360/PS3 only play select games from their past gens. They play like 98% of their backlog, if you have a BC PS3 that is... It was the first Wii Ware game, so it might be using a predated program to run no longer supported after that exact game. These are the only reasons I can come up with for why it can't be played on Wii U.

Nintendo is working together with Frontier to get a fix done for the LostWinds transfer.
That's the official statement that you can read in the Wii Shop right now.

Cannot be emulated? You seem to have a habit hyping rumours.

What do you mean? They're probably working on a 'patch' so it CAN be emulated. What rumors are you talking about if any?

Besides, if you hype a rumor enough, it's pretty much expected to happen when it comes to business, or vice versa. People want HD graphics for the next Nintendo console... Boom, it happens, but at that point it's not even a rumor anymore, it's expected because of other consoles that are 'ahead'. I guess if you consider that PS4 and Xbox 1080 are gonna be more powerful in some way against Wii U as a rumor, you know exactly what a rumor is. They've been thinking up new ways to play video games since the 70's, and Power Glove was a motion controller technically. It wasn't even as bad as people say. I used to have one, and played the Power Ball game. As far as video game motion controllers that are gloves, that was the best one. Rumor = PS4/Xbox 1080 are going to put you into the game using a Power Suit a la Samus. Hype it up people.

I didn't look (I don't have Lostwinds) but there was something about this in the Wii shop news when I logged in just now.

Is it just accepted now that sorting this out was just too much effort for Frontier and/or Nintendo to bother with?

Seems a shame...

All these references to emulation for the Wii mode, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain that the Wii mode is hardware based rather than emulating.

It is hardware based. It only uses a fraction of the actual Wii U hardware to run. The Wii menu is identical in every aspect.
PS3 used PS2 hardware to get 'emulation' to run. The Wii mode on Wii U uses Wii U components to run.
Even PS3 slim and super slim could run PS2 games if they just updated the PS3 firmware. I heard they won't do that though, because everyone would just buy PS2 games.
