Hey guys,

I have just recently acquired a little spare cash, and I noticed that the Wii U is quite cheap now (£200 on Amazon for premium pack). I have really wanted to purchase one since release, but I'm a bit apprehensive now as a lot of people are saying that it's not selling and there are not a lot of games on the horizon.

I was just wondering what you Wii U owners out there feel about the console at this point? Is it worth buying if I already own a 3DS, Wii, PS3 and Vita? What does this console offer that no other does (apart from the first party support).

Thanks in advance for you help

My favourite game of all time is Final Fantasy 7, closely followed by Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Sonic 2, Street Fighter 2, and The Last of Us. PSN: Reverandjames

I have had a lot of fun with the WiiU, especially with its multiplayer games. There are not many games for it yet, but I have 5 games in my collection (not counting eShop games) that are definitely word you time! (Nintendoland, Mario Bros U (+DLC), Sonic Allstars Racing Transformed, Monster Hunter, Lego City and Zombiu (rental).) Also, this month will have Pikmin 3 and after it's release there will be more (Nintendo) games coming at a high pace. I think right now it is a good time to hop onto the WiiU train. ;)

-the Wii U is the only home console with a tablet controller included the box
-has more support for motion control gaming with a remote.
-the online store acts much like an app store
-the GamePad is the only gaming console with 9-axis motion capabilities
-it's cheaper unless you buy an ext. HDD
-3DS connectivity will be supported eventually
-retro games on the VC can be transfered to the Wii U from your Wii
-BC with Wii

It really depends what you want. I think the console has alot of potential on a hardware scale. There's not much to play as of now, but there are the big games coming out by the end of the year and next year.
If you can wait, or still like playing some of the best games of last gen, I'd say it will be worth it, even if you only buy 10-20 games(not counting what's currently out, more like Pikmin 3 and after) the entire generation.

I'll be picking one up shortly probably, but from everything i've read and seen...I think the Wii U is getting some unnecessarily harsh treatment from people.

Pikmin 3 looks amazing, then you've got Wonderful 101, Donkey Kong CR Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Sonic: Lost World, Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Yoshi, Smash Bros, Xenoblade (sequel), Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem....then some great 3rd party stuff like Rayman Legends, Batman Arkham Origins, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, AC IV, etc... Plus Miyamoto has a new franchise in the works (fingers crossed that it's not some casual title). Other 3rd party titles yet to be announced, etc...

There's going to be a number of 1st party games coming out in the next 4 months, so it'd be a good time to buy now I think @ a cheap price...You'll have some annoying firmware updates to make right off the bat that can take a couple of hours, you'll have to live with slightly less than next-gen system specs and substandard 3rd party support.....but if you've been playing Nintendo consoles since the N64 and enjoyed them...I don't see any reason why the Wii U won't measure up to your expectations..It does seem like a very 'local multiplayer' oriented system too, which may or may not appeal to you. Personally, I think it's great.. most of my favourite gaming experiences have been had with friends on a couch playing 4 player splitscreen..

Don't always listen to what the mob says. If it looks interesting to you, and it has games available, and on the horizon that interest you, then buy it...

Thanks guys, all good stuff here!

I mainly want one for the first party support, and I have always had a Nintendo console since the 64. I probably won't pick up any 3rd party titles that will be available on other consoles though.

I might wait until Pikmin 3 is out and pick one up then! Also, now that I know that the Wii U is backwards compatible, I think I definitely want one!

I don't think you will regret it since there will be at least get one exclusive every month starting from Pikmin 3 till the end of the year.
July: Pikmin 3
August: The Wonderful 101
September: Okay, I think there isn't any exclusives that month...
October: Wind Waker HD and Wii U Party
November: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
December: Super Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U
Somewhere in Q4: Sonic Lost World
Of course, there are many great multi-platforms in-between those.

Haha. Ya. That's what I've been saying :P Tons of places in Europe are selling their remaining stock for 150-200£ for the Basic and Premium respectively.
If/when people start buying them like hotcakes, they'll raise the price back to normal, no doubt.
Retail sellers haven't been lowering the price here in the U.S., otherwise people probably would buy them faster. In fact, I think everywhere is sold out in my area right now. No one's ordering them anymore, because they were selling pretty slowly, and they don't want too much stock laying around.
They met the demand, and when the demand comes back, I expect retailers to restock like there's no tommorow.

Well, you could buy the Wii U now and wait for the PS4 for a few months. I don't think you would want to get any kind of console at launch. Also, the Wii U is beginning to get great games now, but I don't think we know if the PS4 will have a drought of its own, so I would wait before I get one. But, if there are more games you want on the PS4, then go for the PS4.

Well for right this second terms of purchasing it depends whats out currently that you like. For me Monster Hunter alone was enough to push to over the edge to make the purchase rather then wait for no games (of course the $50 off for the deluxe was nice also) and then i also got NSBU + Luigi U which has held me over for a fair bit.

If you see anything you really want right now go for it. Right now a list of exclusive games between retail and eshop.

NintendoLand
New Super Mario Bros 2
ZombiU
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate
Lego City Undercover
Game and Wario
New SUper Luigi U
Little Inferno
Chasing Aurora
Mutant Mudds Deluxe
Mighty Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition
Nano Assault Neo
Trine 2: Director's cuut (not exclusive but has exclusive content)

Pplus oncoming games.

The answer is I would probably wait for a price drop and new bundles but if you really want something go for it.

It won't have a drought. Unlike the Wii U the PS4 has a little something called third party support. Plus sony has the indies games in their pocket and their own smaller studios to feel in gaps. Plus Japan Launch being 2014 promises no droughts as they prepare game tailored to that market.

It will have a drought, just not of the same kind. There will be a drought of PS4 Only games, not of playstation games. Lots of launch games are duel launching on the new system and the predecessor so its more advantageous to wait if you have the previous system as im sure all the new consoles versions will be the same game with AA turned up.

If you're going to buy a Wii U, I'd say buy it soon. There's no guarantee that prices will stay as low as they are now. There are some good games coming soon, and quite a few good ones out already, so I'd say it's worth the £200.

But didn't the PS3 have 3rd party support but still had a drought for months after launch? And even if we consider that there will be zero months of drought, that still doesn't remove the whole launch worry as getting a system on launch doesn't guarantee a 100% bug-free experience or other factory defects. As for indie support, don't indies actually take time to make games? Do you really think that a huge portion of indie supporters will actually finish them within the first year of launch?

right now i own a wii u... if it werent so cheap right now i would say dont buy one because i havent played mine for more than 10 minutes since i got it for christmas but it will pick up and finally the game i bought the wii u for in the first place is coming out next month (US). so overall i would say it is a good time to buy a wii u if you dont mind waiting until something worthwhile comes up (mario 3D world: December) or pikmin if you like that like me. Hope this helps.
