Can I get the low down on the Wii U, I'm pretty much getting back into a lot of consoles, gaming a lot.
Is the Wii U worth buying, I hear the games are pretty slim, and that it won't be seeing a price cut

Was hoping for some confidence in my purchase, I don't want to buy the whole system for just ZombiU...

If you like Nintendo games, buy a Wii U. If you don't, I would say you're better off on a PC than a Wii U/Xbone/PS4, in all honesty. When it comes to consoles, buy the system that has (or will have) the games you want. I really liked ZombiU - thought it was a great game. Very different and definitely scary. I also enjoyed Nintendoland (especially with friends) and NSMBU. Lego City was a fun game for me, too, but it really depends on what you like. The Zelda remake is coming up in the fall, as well as Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, and the new 3D Mario game. Smash Bros. and Mario Kart will be up next year, to just name a few. If that sounds enticing to you, definitely jump in - it's a neat system. If those games don't really spark your interest, as I said, go with another system or take the plunge and get into PC.

I love Nintendo games but I heard wii U doesn't have many out, did you know if they plan games like Mario party for the wii u? Are A lot of Mario games are headed to the Wii you? I always enjoyed playing Mario party, Mario kart, and another Mario game where he was in a mansion, and went to different worlds through doors and then fought bowsers later on.. the reason why I know I would love these games is because I haven't played them in so long, so Nintendo is showing the Wii U love with many Mario games in the future it seems by your list, hopefully they will make even more though.. i'd only buy the system for Nintendo exclusive games.

Well if that's the case, then go for it! The game selection isn't as small as the others say it is. Though if you're unsure about the current game selection, wait a bit longer. Like at Christmas time?...

Just get it, and you'll get it
Look up Nintendo's Youtube channel for some previews to games. That should MAYBE help you decide. Also, Nintendo said they have alot more "unique" unannounced games that we don't know of yet.

I am really excited for the "New types of games" that Nintendo are saying they have.

The way i look at it is this:

If you like Nintendo, then buy the system. You're not going to get their games anywhere else. They'll get 3rd party support, albeit sparse. You can bank on the a good portion of the 3rd party games that Nintendo does get, they are quirky/pretty exclusive to that console. Rarely do they ever do multiplat.

Since the N64 days. Nintendo ends up with a respectable/quality library of games. It's not large like the other consoles. But if you can amass 60+ on a console? You're golden. N64 aside? GC didn't have an issue getting a respectable library of games. The Wii? Same. I doubt the Wii U will suffer. Look at the games listed in the thread already...and these are quality games. Some others you can buy (3rd party ports that you haven't played..and B tier games that are pretty good).

I'm sure most don't buy every game they see, though. But with Nintendo consoles? They want to own every Nintendo made game/3rd party Nintendo exclusive....Nintendo consoles are weird like that. So you have to ask yourself if the "no games"...will you even be able to keep up come the second or third year into the Wii U's life cycle? It maybe about choices with the other consoles...but when people invest with a Nintendo console..you know what you are getting: Nintendo. 3rd party oddities that pretty much stick to that Nintendo console....random 3rd party ports.

I just wanted to get the whole "no games" thing out of the way. There's games. But maybe not for you? But then again...maybe the library is just what you want. Do some research and see what the Wii U offers. If it looks good? Then take the plunge and enjoy the Nintendo ride. That's all you can do.

Myself? I always roll Nintendo and another system for 3rd party games. I can't live without Nintendo. I tried to do that once (7th gen)...and I was bored. The 360/3rd party games were not holding my attention like I thought they would. Unfortunately I missed out on 95% of the Wii's run. Why am I telling you this? If you love Nintendo...buy the system sooner, rather than later. I wouldn't wait until they have a full library...the will be gone for one. And you'll be overwhelmed like I am with Wii games (bought 48 in 9 months)....and yes, even Xenoblade.

Its not really worth buying, in my honest opinion. Some might see red about such a statement, considering its the Nintendo Life forum.. but you know, whatever. I have more Wii and Wii U games then all the Nintendo Life staff together, so. Throw whatever ignorant fanboy comment at me if it makes anyone feel better.

The only thing that kept up my interest in the console after the launch was ports of old past-gen games. Good games, for sure, like Mass Effect 3 and Batman: Arkham City, but a Playstation 3 would be a better purchase for that occasion. My interest was up to the spring with Sniper Elite V2 and Resident Evil: Revelations... Another lackluster port of a year-old past gen game and a multiplatform Nintendo 3DS remaster.. Have since tried to get rid of the platform but it seems the second-hand market interest for a Wii U is basically as non-existent as it is for the new ones.

It might pick up in the future but today its basically a dead console. The only life happening on the platform today is Nintendo themselves stating that they believe in it, Kickstarter-campaigns and third parties saying that they are "hoping". Even if you like "Nintendo-games" there is not much to get excited about at this point. Nintendo have brought their least interesting side for the first year of the console with their "fillers" suddenly being launched as their "major titles".

For me, personally, i am hoping to get rid of the Wii U. But i might pick it up again in the end of the gen if it actually came to worthwhile life during those years.

Is the Wii U worth it right now? The answer is the same as it is for any console. Are any of the games out now good enough to justify the purchase? Right now I'd say no, probably not. Not for me even though I got one at launch which rationally was the wrong choice. However I have had a fair amount of fun with it and I can see value in the games coming out over the next six months.

Rayman Legends should be fantastic and the Challenges App has been very fun. Pikmin 3 is out next week in Australia and that looks very good indeed, a game that I would argue does justify a purchase. Going towards the end of the year there's also The Wonderful 101, Wind Waker HD, Mario 3D World and DK Tropical Freeze which all combine to justify getting one even more. But they're not out YET so...

I'd wait for one of those titles to come out if you think any of them are your sort of thing before you get it. If not and you're more into the cross platform titles then it's probably better to weigh up the other options. As it is right now I don't think it's worth getting.

I don't really understand that mentality. Sell it when the used market is weakest and buy it later new when it's "worth it" again presumably losing all of your digital purchases in the process. Each to their own I guess.

FANBOIIII!!!

lol... just kidding

I still use mine, but I use my PC way more. I'm not about to trade in something that I invested a good deal of money in, though. Things are going to get much, much better for the Wii U. And considering the continued negative press with Xbone, I think this generation's "war" is shaping up to be anything but ordinary.

Banker-Style

I'd say get it next month with Pikmin 3,Lego City,Zombi U and Mario U,and then wait for all the brilliant titles to come out from September onwards.

If you love Nintendo games, sure.

If you just love games in general, no. Put that money towards another console, or if you're really dedicated, a PC.

I don't have a soft spot for games just because Nintendo made them. Therefore for me, I want the largest number of high quality games possible. Sony led last gen in high quality exclusives, so unless they drastically change this gen, a PC and PS4 is seemingly the way to go.

If you're really into multiplatform games, the Wii U route will have you on here with other Wii U fans signing countless petitions.

You_Silly_Human

This thread has been a lot of help to me, and I still want the Wii U!

However after doing some research myself a little more, and reading through this thread, I think my best option if I want a lot of Mario games without a huge investment I should probably get the 3ds XL which was also on my mind...

The Wii U Looks fascinating especially when they release all the Nintendo games for it, and I love how zombiU looks..

Edit: Also I just got a ps3, so the multiplat doesn't make sense to me, only if there were lots and lots of Mario games would It have justified the price, and this also factors into my decision ( I already have a decent gaming laptop too, it isn't the best graphics card but a great processor, but its out for repair and should be back soon, it runs hitman absolution and fallout and others ) so I think the wii U would be unnecessary at this point in my life as I would never use it for multplats

But I think it would be less of a gamble and more Mario games if I went with the 3ds XL..i'll keep the Wii U in mind for the future though, thanks to all again.

3DS is also a great choice. In fact, 3DS is probably more essential than Wii U, but I would get both. Besides all the comments about the games, I would get it for technology alone. There's something really nice about using its internet browser with youtube, or watching Netflix on it, and moving with it all around the house. All it takes is for one game to wow you and you'll be hooked. For me, it was probably Arkham City:AE as it uses the GamePad features very well, and then you can go to the toilet and keep playing it and it looks so fluid and beautiful on the screen. The screen looks so good that when I played NSMB U I preferred the GamePad screen to my TV.

Oh yeah, and Wii had the best exclusives. SMG and SMG2 highest rated exclusives.
