I wont lie when I was younger I loved nintendo but as i got older I got more into mature systems such as PC, Xbox & PS but I feel that Im getting tired of the same ol shooter, shooter & yup shooter and gaming has been feeling very stale to me as of late. I really want to move on in gaming and explore new things.
I havent played a nintendo system since the super nintendo. I am unsure of what to buy as for the Wii U or 3DS. From what I keep reading is all doom n gloom stuff about the Wii U failing or has no games n such.
is the Wii U a good system? Does the Wii U have a great library? How many games are being released this year on Wii U? please help
A lot of it depends on whether you like paying on Handhelds or Home Consoles, but atm the 3DS has the better library of games but with Super Smash Bros 4 and Mario Kart 8 plus X, Bayonetta 2 and SMT X FE coming to Wii U that will most likely change for me.
I like more at home game play but as I stated im just worried about the Wii U especially with its library. is there a list of Wii U games that are currently release compared to the 3DS ?

Pikmin 3 (great RTS)
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Nice challenging 2D platformer)
NSMBU and Rayman Legends (2D great multiplayer platformers)
Super Mario 3D World (fantastic 3D platformer quite good in multiplayer as well)
NintendoLand (fun short collection of Nintendo themed party/mini games but a bit deeper than your average collection)
Wii Party U (fun party game)
TLOZ:Wind Waker HD great especially if you never played the original on Gamcube
I've also heard Lego City Undercover is good but haven't played it my self.
It has an underrated retail library but the majority of your time may be on the indie scene as there's a bunch here and a lotta others coming soon if that interests you on the WiiU.
To echo everyone else, the 3DS is best right now, but things will change in the long run and the WiiU will get more games, However, in your case, since you haven't played Nintendo since the SNES, I would recommend that you get a 3DS, as it is a cheaper starting investment where you can test the waters and see if you really want to play more Nintendo games. If you enjoy playing on the 3DS, you can think about the WiiU at a later time.
3DS games that you should get:
-Pokemon X or Pokemon Y
-Fire Emblem Awakening
-LoZ OoT 3D
-Starfox 64 3D
-Animal Crossing New Leaf
-LoZ A Link Between Worlds
-Ace Attorney Dual Destinies (Download only)
-Kid Icarus Uprising
-Mario Kart 7
-Super Mario 3D Land
-Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
-Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
Some of these games are more niche than others, but all of them are great games. I also recommend the StreetPass Plaza games if you end up having a lot of other 3DS uses in your area.
I would get the more expensive console because saving up for the cheaper console will be easier lol. I do think having both is the only way to play Nintendo. If you are missing 1 of their systems then you are missing half (give or take) of their line-up
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

In theory 3DS is just a better idea to get, but I find Wii U's releases more consistently interesting/must-own.
I'd get Wii U, but only if its library and Wii U features interest you. The library it has lives up to some high expectations, but not everyone will agree. Also, probably a better indie console. Also, X and the will blatantly be the better version by a long-shot Smash Bros.
But 3DS is probably the safe and smart choice. Objectively or whatever.
Why not go preowned and get both?
Even if not, they can both be found really cheap. Amazon had 3ds for £80 earlier this week. New. And a 2ds is that price as well now,
I don't think it's fair to compare 3DS and Wii U, since they are so different in their approaches to gaming. If only handheld gaming is important to you, 3DS would be a choice. If HD graphics on a big screen and surround sound is important, Wii U would be the choice (although Wii U can also be used for handheld gaming).
I'd go for 3DS right now, and get a Wii U later if you like your experience with it. (that way if you don't like it, you'll be out less money)
Also, 3DS has a larger list of great games currently.
Super Mario 3D Land
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Zelda: OoT3D
Zelda: ALBW
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Star Fox 64 3D
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Pokémon X & Y
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Mario Kart 7
Mario Tennis Open
Yoshi's New Island
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Pilotwings Resort
Nintendogs + Cats
Mario Party: Island Tour
Mario Golf: World Tour (coming in May)
Kirby: Triple Deluxe (coming in May)
Super Smash Bros. 3DS (coming this year)
That's just the first party 3DS stuff, not counting it's excellent 3rd party selection, which includes:
Tales of the Abyss
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Etrian Odyssey IV
Etrian Odyssey Untold: the Millennium Girl
Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater
Resident Evil: Revelations
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate
Dead or Alive Dimensions
Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition
Tekken 3D Prime Edition
Project X Zone
Code of Princess
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Rune Factory 4
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy
Samurai Warriors: Chronicles
Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate
Virtue's Last Reward
Bravely Default
Ridge Racer 3D
Ace Attorney: Dual Destiny (eShop only)
Unchained Blades (eShop only)
Yumi's Odd Odyssey (eShop only)
Senran Kagura Burst (eShop only)
Kokuga (eShop only)
Of course, that's not everything the 3DS has to offer (the only eShop games I mentioned are full retail in Japan, so I didn't even begin to scratch the surface of what eShop offers), but it goes to show that it already has a full bodied lineup, and while the Wii U has some great games now (and will be getting more soon), it'll probably be awhile before it's lineup is as full as the 3DS' (a little longer than some here seem to be suggesting, as if they have this odd notion companies are going to stop making 3DS games all of a sudden this year, which isn't the case).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
As someone who has had the same feelings / been in the same situation as you. (Nintendo gamer as a child but have since branched out).
Get a 3DS for the portable side and buy a Xbox One or a PS4 for your console fix.
I already have 2 PS4s and 2 Xbox Ones. This is why I am looking for something new. the 3DS XL is looking good right now especially for the games selection. Now to find what 3DS XL I want. It has to be something unique it cant be a plain color. I was thinking maybe the yoshi one but that does not come with a game. I want to do a 3DS XL with game bundle
To the people jumping up and down saying 3DS I have a simple question. GBA or GC? It's not that simple guys.
The fact is that in the next couple of years the Wii U will have games. It'll have X, Bayonetta 2, Kart, Smash and it'll probably have a Zelda and Metriod as well as a few others. Then there's the library it already has which includes stuffs like Pikmin, Marios, Nintendo Lands and various party games. All of which even if they're on the 3DS can't really be played in the same way.
The 3DS is obviously not doing for the visual thing and it does have the third party support. What it also has is streetpass which I would argue is the best thing about it. I mean Animal Crossing is a cool game but walking past someone and getting their house in the showcase or having a villager move over? That's magic.
