Wonderful 101 is a Nintendo owned IP according to the trademark

oh good. Nintendo has genuinely needed this. I mean I loved Pushmo and stuff like Harmoknight are cool but at this point they don't matter nearly as much as a new console IP with a beloved developer working on it. But this is the type of stuff that can really get fans excited.

Likely so, but what I was initially curious about was how Nintendo as a company is doing in terms of original content. Now if those IP's are going to be owned by Nintendo then that's great, I hope they make good use of them in the future, but they're still developed by 'external minds'. I probably should have been clearer about that.

I guess, but between Intelligent Systems, Hal, GameFreak, Camelot, GoodFeel, Sega with F Zero GX, Capcom with a few Zelda titles, SE with Mario Sports Mix etc, you could argue that with half their games.

Technically, Nintendo Land was the last original IP B-), but I think we can all agree that in this context it doesn't count.
So, yeah, Pikmin is really the last one. If you want to count the ones Nintendo own, go ahead- but they did not make Wonderful 101, Pandora's Tower, X, etc.

Monolith is owned by Nintendo. That's like saying Nintendo didn't make Metroid Prime.

Why can't Metroid crawl?

That's very true. The reason I created this thread in the first place was my dashed expectations of something new from Retro. If that's where I was expecting my new IP from, then it wouldn't really be fair to exclude other companies in the same exact position.

There's only so many games Nintendo could make themselves lol
That's why they acquire or enlist the help of other studios. It means more software.

"Advance Wars (from 2001)"

That"s funny. That's like say Marth debuted in Super Smash Brothers. The Wars series is OLD and started out, like Fire Emblem, on the FAMICOM! Granted, the West never got either series until long after the Famicom, but in both cases, this is Nintendo bringing previously existing IPs and giving them Western releases, not developing new IPs from the ground up.

How about the The Legendary Starfy? It also means you are not including the many Wii games from Wii Sports to Wii Fit as IP. Anyway, right together with Pikmin there were quite a lot of others, like Animal Crossing and then Chibi-Robi!. Then, many are being released on Nintendo eShop as downlodable titles like aforementioned.

Starfey was only new in the west. Its a long running series in Japan.

I'd still like to see a good multiplayer shooting game from Nintendo. Miyamoto had said at one point that he could have designed Halo. Not literally Halo of course, but if he were to design a game like that it would have been pretty similar to Halo. I'd really like to see him back up that statement and finally have a first person shooter from Nintendo to compete with Halo and CoD. Maybe something steampunk?

Didn't Miyamoto have a ton of input in geist and that turned out terrible.

I just want Metroid Blast being turned into a full game.

Not really. I think he gave them advice once.

The developer has never made a particularly good game even 8 years later.

Doesn't have to be "core" or even critically acclaimed to be a new IP. Steel Diver, Wii Fit, Wii Sports.... I'm sure there are a few others I'm forgetting
