Some regions of the U.S.A. "namely the southwest" are being affected by the port strike on the west coast. If you order the game from GameStop or Best Buy online, I'm sure that you can pre-order the game still. However if you don't pre-order the game it'll probably be extremely difficult to find especially in the western half of the country.

This is why I support circumventing union strikes.
I read on a twitter page that had part of the investor's Q&A translated that the strike have affected the amiibo and new 3ds xl shipment, but it hasn't had a big impact on software since it's light and can be flown to America.
Also I got an email from Toysrus today saying that they have it ready for pickup tomorrow. This is a relief since I also got an email yesterday saying there have been a delay and they didn't receive it yet.
