How come nobody seems to talk about this game? And I don't mean on this sight, I mean the fans in general. All they ever do is talk about how much they hate 6 (which I don't but that's a different story). To be honest this is the closest to the original we've had in awhile. I'm pretty sure it sold well, maybe not as well as 6. I originally played Resident Evil "Revelaitons" on the 3DS and played it again just recently when my friend brought over his Wii U version. Its a lot better than I remembered. Amazing soundtrack, true to the series controls, occasional frights (one got me pretty good), great tension with the whole Rachel and "Mayday" scenes, great story without being needless complicated. Its probably my new favorite RE game to be honest.
Soooo...CAPCOM....where's my sequel? You can't just give me that cliffhanger ending and leave. You have by 2015! Make it happen!

Hard to take serious a Resident Evil that jumps around this much for no worthwhile reason. Capcom doesn't even trust RE fans to want or enjoy survival horror.
EDIT: Looking back, I think I wanted to like it more than I did. Most elements are done very well, yet nothing is extraordinary. Now, look at the series and realize that any game needs to be groundbreaking to be considered exceptional at this point.
RE2 is one of the more influential games of it's era. REmake is old fashioned survival horror nearly perfected. RE4 is as good as action games get. Even the Raid mode is an inferior approximation of Mercenaries (I still play Mercs 3D often with my wife while Raid mode hardly grabbed us at all). I don't think the spark was there.
Yeah, it's my fave 3DS game because it shows what the system can achieve when effort is applied... I have been playing through the Wii U online raid mode lately, great game

I actually have yet to play the raid mode, however the more I look at it the more I want to
@ACK Honestly the skipping between characters and events didn't bother me. I could totally understand if it would bother someone though.

Being the Survival Horror aficionado that I am means that I own every type of game from the Silent Hill series on PS1 & PS2 (I didn't like the crappy PS3 games though) and every Resi Evil you can get on all systems. My faves are RE1 2 3 4, Code Veronica, REmake, Zero, Mercenaries & Revelations... For some reason every Survival Horror that touches the PS3 is poopiedoodoodinglesdorf
this game is awesome, I'm not fond of mindless bloody shooters but this one wasn't mindless and it felt great even in the mindless shooting sections!(you know, like that "retrospective" of what happened with terragrigia you start with machine guns and won't have problems later if you waste all the ammo you get in this chapter)
ok, this game is now officially the number 3 on my "to play once again" list.

I'm playing this for the first time still, and I'd never played a Resident Evil game before, so everything in this is totally new to me! I'm loving it so much! ...one of the main reasons simply being because it utilizes the 3DS hardware so well! ...on the other versions... eh... seems they got lazy in the graphics department...
Event though I've completed Revy' on the 3DS, i'm thinking about getting it on Wii U...Just to sort of keep in tune with what the wii got, ahem > RE4: 'Wii Edition....Which is a lot better imo seeing as how they included pointer controls, but not this time around with Revelations. I'll try out the demo and make my mind up from there.
I wouldn't say Revelations was awesome though.....Taking down ganandos was more enjoyable than those shuffling ooze zombies and RE4 was overall just designed a lot better.....Plus, Revelations sold out with those ADD mindless Shooter filler episodes. Half 'solid' half naddah. And that Keith and whoever duo was so not Resident Evil. The entire story line was convoluted and was a little too anime-esque with one uninteresting head villan to boot. Mixed bag of zombie goop if you ask me. I'd actually give the 'slight' nod to Resident Evil 5.
RE4 > RE5 > Revelations > Scarfing down a plate of zombified Tyrant eye balls > RE6
I didnt like RE4 Wii edition because of the controls. I never got familier with the pointer, and hated that you couldnt move while aiming.
I never finished it and probably never will (actually gave it a try before buying Revelations).
RE1 & 2 is the best in my opinion.
How iis the controls on the 3DS? It only has one stick, right?

revelations can be played with the Circle Pad Pro(a second stick add on), Motion controls for aiming(works like a dream but impossible to use with 3D) and with other control options using the buttons and the 3DS' lone circlepad.

@Gioku
Hope you liked the game. If you did, you should try out Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. It's the original RE game that came out for the playstation but remade for the original DS. I bought it because I liked the original so much. I've played it over and over and over. Even with the 3DS i've gone back to play the game twice.
You should find it at Gamestop if you're in the U.S. Should be pretty cheap too by now. No more than $15 i would think. At least it'll take you back to the roots of it. Graphics aren't on par to RE:Revelations, but, it'll be a cool experience to experience the game that started it all.
@Skjeva: The original version of RE4 had forced inverted aiming. Think about that. And after playing the more recent versions, I wonder if restricting movement wasn't an overall benefit. It really allows for a more refined, focused shooting experience. The ways you must utilize the environment provide more tension. That relationship to your environment becomes more vital and significant when you aren't constantly on the move, firing from the hip.
Of course, the new scheme all feels smooth and necessary, even; however, after lamenting the drawbacks of the RE schemes for much of my life... I now feel there is a careful balance that must be struck to achieve a core RE feeling. I now think I prefer the improved tank controls from REmake to the entirely free-moving dual analog from Revelations (which becomes a full on FPS on 3DS, which is great if you want an action game--a painfully lacking genre on the 3DS). It seems ridiculous to me, looking back, but I guess that's another story...
For what it's worth, I find the Wii Edition controls to be immensely satisfying. Transformed RE4 from an absolutely great game to one of my absolute faves. Pinging axes out of the air with extreme ease was how the game was intended, there is no doubt. I own a couple clearance copies (like $4 each), still wrapped just so I can play it forever. Or hand out to friends on a rainy day.
As for Revelations, the single stick scheme feels really nice and accessible. Great for the ladies. Dual analog kicks it up a notch with the CPP (which provides an excellent form to make for an unbelievably comfortable handheld). Problem is, I think the game takes a bit of a dive under a dual analog lens. Just colors the experience in a sorta generic, kinda flat way... Plus it makes a fairly easy game pretty breezy. (Raid mode is saved by dual analog, though, so it's OK with me.)
(This was originally an edit on my last post, but though maybe it deserved it's own since it's a little more relevant to the subject.)
Thinking back on Revelations, it's a fine game. As an accessible modern RE for newer generations, it's a success. But I find it hard to massage any of the basic RE compulsions when I play it. With it's pedigree, I don't see how it can be considered a particularly noteworthy release in the overall franchise.
Tried the demo, and was really disappointed I have to be honest. Mostly, I felt like the controls are a step back from Wiimote controls of RE4, and it's not the same as RE1 or Zero where you don't have to aim in the same way with the dual analogue.
That, and the graphics were sort of disappointing to me (which is usually not so much of an issue for me).
All in all, I think I concluded that this must be better on 3DS.
Am I wrong? Please tell me why I'm wrong. I want to know why this game is awesome, even after having tried the demo and not liking it so much.
@Tritonus: On 3DS it's amazing! ...they didn't upscale any of the graphics for the HD version, so... some of the textures look kinda weird and pixelated... on 3DS, the textures are pixel-perfect and look amazing (especially in 3D!). It was built to run on 3DS, not in HD.

and the controls are probably better, I love using gyro controls to aim, it makes everything faster and more precise!
