Hey guys.
Rant alert! Okay, yeah a rant is coming...
So, somethings been bugging my a lot lately, and I just got to talk about it somewhere. Now, I've always been a Nintendo fan (I would fit under the category of "fan boy" ) and, yeah, there are a lot of people who trash talk on Nintendo, but I've always just been able to ignore them. However, recently there has been things that I just CAN'T STAND.
So, the Wii U. I have it, and love it. It's tons of fun. the worst thing is that there's only a good few of games for it. (Which is to be expected, as it just launched.) Now, people blame Nintendo for this, but Nintendo is practically the only one who seems to be making games for the Wii U! People like Activision and EA almost refuse to develop/port games to the Wii U. Now, I couldn't care less about EA and Activision games, but, the fact that they're not making games means that the console is a "no-go" for fans of their series. Which means less sales, which means companies won't make games for it.
Okay, lets go into something different. People were really upset about how the PS4 and Xbox One didn't have backwards compatibility. I wish there was a console that had full backwards compatibility plus a service where you could buy previous retro games.... Oh wait. The Wii U.
Both the Xbox One AND the PS4 you MUST pay a monthly fee for internet services. Man that stinks. I wish that there was a console that would let you play online for free... Oh wait. The Wii U.
Also, people constantly whine about the price of the Wii U, and how they want a price cut, but then go onto droll over the PS4.
Wii U Deluxe set: $350
PS4: $400
Xbox One: $500
Another thing, people hate the DRM on the Xbox games, and how used games are frowned upon. Nintendo is all for used games, and sharing them.
Okay, so back to the games. Nintendo has made, and is making a bunch of upcoming games. And people complain on how that they're not making enough games. How many games are Sony and Microsoft making on their console?.... Oh wait. None. (That I know of. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Okay, okay, okay, I'm sorry for ranting so much, but this has really been bugging me. And I'm sure that there's plenty of people who agree with me (hopefully). And I'm not say "oh Sony sucks and xbox is terrible". We (my family) have a PS3 and I love it! (Uncharted is the defiantly the best game of the console.) And the only reason I don't have an Xbox 360 is because of money. I'm fine with both PS4, and Xbox One. I'm just tired of everyone else not being fine with Nintendo. It seems like every time they do something, people will complain.
Thanks for your time!
(Also, Yesterday I saw a Miiverse post of someone who said "I just switched from Xbox to Wii U! Best choice in my life!". It made me happy... )
Hmm, Nintendo has an image problem and I think they've had it for awhile. I think people don't expect the really hot games to come out for it so its a second console at best and not everyone has the money or space to maintain a second console. Personally, I was going to wait for a price drop until all the Xbone stuff came out, then I was like, "screw it. Nintendo's always been good to me!"
Good decision on my part. Especially once I found out the tablet controller was actually pretty awesome and not just a ridiculous gimmick. Maybe it's the marketing. Maybe it's the games (IDK there is a lot of stuff to play IMO - how many games do most people buy in a month??) but something doesn't seem to be clicking and that's a shame because I've had a lot of fun with my Wii U.
That's why I like seeing stuff like these Best Buy E3 demos that Nintendo did. The more people that have a chance to play this thing, the better I suspect.
Where's the KABOOM?! There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM! sigh delays...delays...

Did you just say Sony and Microsoft aren't making games? O.o
If not, what did Sony just release with The Last of Us? What about the new Infamous, the new Killzone, the new Gran Turismo? What is the new Forza or the new Halo? Who is making these games if they aren't being made by Sony and Microsoft devs?
The Wii U's biggest problem is marketing. The name confuses consumers and the Gamepad has to be used to be understood. Truth be told, I wasn't planning on getting one until Sony announced that the PS4 was not backwards compatible. I then looked at the Wii U and decided that it had some cool games coming out and The Wonderful 101 was the final straw. I love the system and haven't been let down as I'm still catching up on Wii games that came out after I sold that console.

I do agree Nintendo has a major image problem. I forget who made this point but Nintendo consoles...basically since late 2008 has had a real bad reputation as the console with major gaps in terms of releases. Now, half the time this is because some gamers are pathetic hypocrites that ignore any game that sells less than a million copies, but the other half has been valid and Nintendo has done a very terrible job at either spreading out releases and/or not having a system feel abandoned or forgotten. And once indies start getting a decent amount of games on Wii U, they will have no excuse to not have a consistent stream of games from now on, barring major (most likely bad) changes in the industry as a whole. This will likely be a good thing, but Nintendo has no excuses left starting with the Fall pretty much. Hope they can get past these bad years, Sony recovered after similar disasterous issues after all (though Sony's were more immediate decisions where as all of Nintendo's problems in the past decade finally came to a head in the past couple of years).
That's a good point that I keep forgetting to bring up. Nintendo has the only new console with free online gaming. If Nintendo is smart, they should advertise this as much as humanly possible. This might be why I switch from 360 for Wii U for AC4 (I know I'm doing this for Watch Dogs). I can finally try AC's online and I don't have to pay a cent more than 60. Wonderful.

Xbox One.. leaves thread
to be fair, I could market and have PR better than Xbox has had in the past month or so. That's like praising someone for breathing, not that difficult.
1. It's not the job of EA, Activision, or any other 3rd party to help sell the Wii U. Their only obligation is to make themselves money, so that means making games for the systems where their games will sell (once Nintendo sells enough Wii U units, I'm sure they'll come back)
2. People aren't complaining about the PS4 price, because it's a much more advanced platform (meaning it costs more to make, than a Wii U). People ARE complaining about the price of the One, since it doesn't seem to do anything better than PS4, yet is $100 more (that also makes the PS4 price seem less intimidating)
3. They all have new games coming (whether it be their own IP, or exclusive 3rd party titles)
Sony:
Infamous: Second Son
The Order: 1886
Drive Club
Knack
Killzone: Shadowfall
Octodad
I'm sure there are more, but I was a little awestruck at the KHIII & FFXV announcements, so I'm sure I zoned out here and there, lol.

Project Spark
Ryse: Son of Rome

Titanfall
Killer Instinct

Man, the E3 demos at Best Buy was such a good thing to do. I only wish I could have been there to play the games.

1. Never said it was. I'm just upset on how they're much more supportive on consoles that aren't even out yet.
2. People are complaining about the price of the Wii U though. That was my point.
3. Again, I was saying that people were complaining that the Wii U had no games coming, in which it does.
@RR529 Thanks for the list, I'd like to add Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare, and Fantasia for 360, and One. As well as Wii Party U, Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Olympics Games, and SEGA has another Sonic game for 2013 apparently.
Well I too agree that Nintendo has a image problem none of the people my age are down with Mario anymore nor went any part of saying they own anything Nintendo related because their little brothers own a ds or a Wii. Its ridiculous. And yeah the name Wii u doesn't help ay all either.

Like everyone else who said this, I agree. I mean, now, the odd name "Wii U" has grown on me. But yes, it is very... Well.. Odd. And at times, (rarely) I find it embarrassing that I play some Nintendo games. Like Animal Crossing. I mean, if I'm talking to someone who doesn't play the games (which is rare, as the few friends I have play AC) I get kinda embarrassed. Mostly because they see the games as girly or childish, and therefore see me as girly and childish. Which... actually might be true in some ways.
Watch this. This explains the point most people are trying to make.
Wow, thanks for posting this. And, yes, I think Nintendo is trying to do what they guy said, (bringing the hardcore market back) with games like Bayonetta 2, and X, and maybe even more.
People tend to behave rationally in large groups and there isn't that much compelling content for the Wii U on the market yet. It's as simple as that. I don't think it's worth analysing too much. Bring compelling content to the platform and it will sell.
Why is the PS4 getting praise for things that the Wii U also does? Because other than those things it's pretty much identical to the XBone. The Wii U isn't. When talking about the Wii U those things are non-issues, it's all about what first party exclusives it will get and if the GamePad is a good idea.

all video game things are kiddie... Any self respecting adult is more concerned with money, getting drunk, making love and raising children rather then whining on internet forums and comparing size of units or how big their RAM is
Like Animal Crossing. I mean, if I'm talking to someone who doesn't play the games (which is rare, as the few friends I have play AC) I get kinda embarrassed. They actually had that question in the Club Nintendo survey about Animal Crossing. Something along the lines of "You're pretty old, people say this game is for kids. What gives?". Nintendo having a go at me for enjoying the game
You know what I think? The idea of a game being "too childish" is a childish concept. I think that the people who see the need to project an adult, masculine image of what type of content they enjoy are insecure. Real men would be able to walk through a crowded shopping centre with a giant rainbow unicorn pillow pet
