Just got the Wii U today and a couple games. Its updating at the moment but wondering how you can get friends or add people to it. Looking for some friends to play online with. The games I currently have are Zombie U, Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, and Monster Hunter 3 ultimate. Also does it normally take a long time to update? I have 30 mbps so just curious.

The first update can take two or three hours. Hang in there.

Then enjoy the long wait, untill any good first party game to come out.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Well its about half way done so hopefully not to much longer. Anyone know how to add friends? New to the system. Played the regular wii before but never online so that parts a little new to me.

It's better when you search for friends using MiiVerse as it alerts the user with a notification

Ya, try Miiverse. You have to have met someone in Miiverse, you can add them directly by going to their profile. If you meet during an online match, go to friends and look at 'met' players where you can add them.
The update shouldn't take that long, at least if your internet is optimized and such.

Hit the home button, then click on friends. You gotta do that initial set up first. Then , for games such as black ops 2 at least, while in the game, you can hit Y, and type in the friends name. Of course, you will have to play some games, to find people you wanna add. I think you can probably also just select their name and add it that way. As for the other games im not sure, black ops is only game i've played online besides AC3 which didn't last long. As for the updates, they are terribly slow regardless of how fast your connection is. This is a common problem, be it system updates, or game updates. I think it is an OS problem, that nintendo should be addressing in the updates that are coming over the next couple months.

Is it okay if I bump/hijack this thread rather than make a new one? Yeah? Okay then.

I just bought a Wii U too. Been eying one up for a while but waiting on it to hit the right price. I saw one going on eBay for £220 (deluxe/32gb console) and I snapped it up.
It only comes with Nintendoland so I'm looking for some game recommendations.

Zombi U and MH3U are currently at the top of my list, anything else worth buying/renting?

Zombi U is a great game. I'm 27 and certain parts scared me. It's not Call of duty black ops zombie. The enviroment is much more tense. I'm not sure on MH3. I played the demo and wasn't impressed, but after reading some reviews, watching some youtube videos it's making me want it so IDK. If you haven't played batman on another system its great. Same with Assasins Creed 3. I've never played any of the ninja gaiden series but that game has me interested as well. Lego city undercover is also fun. Just got that. I hear NFS U is good as well, but haven't played it yet. Black ops 2 is also great if you haven't played it. I've put in probably a good 60 hours over the last week I've had it on the zombies mode alone. So far I've owned nintendo land, AC3, batman, COD BO2, Lego City, Zombi U, and would recommend all those unless you've played them on another system. Pikmin 3 is coming soon hopefully. I really liked the pikmin portion of nintendo land, and it was the first pikmin "game" i've ever played. Haven't messed with the Eshop so can't recommend anything there. I also hear darksiders 2 is really good if thats your type of game. I'm dissapointed by the walking dead. I was really really really looking forward to that game but apparently it turned out to be crap. The game I'm most looking forward to though is watch dogs, but thats not until the end of the year. Theres some really good looking games coming to ps 3 over the coming months that I wish were headed to the wii U. The last of us, and remember me specifially. I've been tempted several times to pick up a ps3 just to play those, oh that and bioshock infinite.

Thanks for the input mate.

I've already played ACIII, Batman AC and Black Ops II on the PS3/PC so I'll probably skip them.
That Lego City game does look interesting. I played one of the Lego Star Wars games on the PS2 some years ago and really enjoyed it. haven't played any Lego games since.
I didn't like the direction Ninja Gaiden took with 3 but I've heard the WiiU version is more alike the previous games, so I might rent that.

Funny you mention the PS3 game line up. None of the future releases look interesting to me.
I did get Ni No Kuni for the PS3 back in January which was great. I'd like to see that ported onto the Wii U. I think there's a lot of features in the game that would work well with the touch screen.

I don't like the xbox 360 exclusives, halo, gears of war etc. The ps3 has some great ones though that I would like to play. Unchartered, as well as quite a few more I can't think of off the top of my head. The cool thing I like about the ps3 is that it's been out for so long you can get games dirt cheap used at game stop. I think the only thing stopping me is a lack of time to play all the ones I want. I bought batman, lego city, and cod bo 2 all within a couple weeks of each other. My gf has been playing batman and bo2 but I haven't played them much. I've always loved the zombies mode on COD, and I just can't stop playing it, to have time to play the other games I got. Oh, forgot to mention Deus Ex human revolution, if you haven't played it, or even if you have. I played in on PC the day it came out, but I've forgotten a lot of it, and due to the improvements they made I'm really wanting to play it again. I haven't heard of that game you mentioned but I looked it up. I do like RPG's, but I've never been a big fan of the animeish style. Oh, skyrim would also look great on wii u.

Gears 1 was great in co-op. The rest of them just bored me. Never got into Halo either. On the hole, I really regret getting a 360.
The PS3 has been a great system for games overall. Bit slow at the start (kinda like the Wii U), but I think it hit it's stride around 2008-11.

I have played Deus Ex HR, multiple times. The director's cut swayed me over to buying a Wii U earlier than I planned to.
I'm really looking forward to it.

Yea me too. If you never played the original on PC i'd highly recommend it. Probably my all time favorite game ever, that or system shock 2. I've just never been a big fan of the "get from point A to point B while shooting everything in your way games". I like the ones where you can choose to kill everyone, or kill no one and sneak by, or hack a robot to kill them indirectly or something like that. Now that I think about it, I hope Thief 4 comes to wii u. I had completely forgotten about that game. That's also a great series to play on pc

Just picked myself up a Wii-U at the weekend (£199 HMV deal for a premium pack plus ZombiU) and got it all set up last night. Of course by the time I did updates etc.. it was time for bed (enforced by a 6-month old baby). So I'll hopefully have another go tonight and get my old Wii VC titles moved across.

I've already had a hard lock playing the Donkey Kong attraction on Nintendoland when I pressed the "skip" button - even after I'd downloaded the patch. Looking forward to getting into ZombiU tonight.

Very impressed with the console and package - the gamepad has a much higher resolution screen than I was expecting and has a nice weight to it. Looks like a cover will be essential, provided I can find one that still allows the pad to sit in its charging cradle.

Anyway, I'd be keen to link up with some friends, so please feel free to add me

I really enjoyed Razor's Edge and Darksiders 2 but what I enjoy in a game isn't necessarily the same thing that you do. Why not look at some reviews (here, Metacritic, IGN, Eurogamer, etc.) and look at some gameplay footage on Youtube?

I'm with you there I picked up on the same HMV offer. Great value. I am loving it. Nintendoland is very clever and Miiverse is great fun! If only I cld draw.

Miiverse is amazing and it can only get better as more people purchase a Wii U and Nintendo continue to improve/maintain the service to high standard. Also NintendoLand was the game that probably stood out most. Honestly, if you're able to play this game with some friends/family get ready for an absolute blast!

Also congrats on getting that excellent deal from HMV.
