Should Japanese peripherals generally work on a NA Wii U?

The US Hori Battle Pads seem to have sold out pretty quickly and I'm interested in completing my collection of WiiMotes with dat sweet yoshi version. I installed the Japanese Battery with no issue and it looks like these should work fine. Just curious if any one had any experience with peripherals originally destined for other regions.

From what I've gathered around the net, peripherals aren't region coded, only machines and games.

I have been able to use Wii remotes and accessories on my Japanese Wii U and vice versa so it should work. As @jariw said, only the games and systems are region locked (+ the gamepad)
