@mipaol Except Nintendo isn't an Orange, nor is it an Apple. It was an Orange all of the last generation, but now there is an even better "orange" (casual gaming) and a better "apple" (dedicated gaming) and Nintendo can't seem to make up their mind on what they want to be. They show off a cool, cutting edge machine with tech demos highlighting power, and then they get blown out of the water by Sony and Microsoft. The casual gaming market is pretty much dominated by smartphones and tablets, so it's high time Nintendo picks their market, because right now it just feels like they are undergoing an identity crisis.
@Spanjard "behind" isn't so much the right word, but identity crisis much better fits it. Apple has taken over the market that the Wii was in, and the PS4 and XboxOne are ruling the dedicated gaming machine market. What is the Wii U? It doesn't seem to be an apple, and it doesn't fit in with the oranges, so what is it?

Which Wii U games have you played? What's so "casual" about the gameplay in games like Tropical Freeze, 3D World (the later half), Wind Waker, Wonderful 101 or Pikmin 3?

What market would you say the Wii U is looking for? Wii Fit U, Wii Sports U, Wii Party U, Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Land, etc. I'm saying the Wii U is not a casual machine, you're just misreading my post. It's not a competitor of the iPad/iPhone, and it's not looking for the same market as the PS4/XboxOne. What market would you say it's going for?

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

People who play more than 10 minutes of gaming in a day but also people who don't need an inferior version of a gaming PC to feel that they are HARDCORE BRO?

Is that even a market though. I have friends with One's and PS4's who play for more than that amount of time. If you told them a gaming PC was better they'd give you the who gives a poopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoopoo that most of the populus would give you.

Hell I can build a gaming PV but went with a PC due to everything being stream lined. AT the end of the day if i'm going to spend over $500 for a PC its going to be a Mac or a Ultrabook.

@kkslider5552000 Except it has very little third party support, so people who care about that will probably be going to the PS4/XboxOne. That seems to be a pretty small market, but hey, we could be surprised.

I'm more talking about who the console is for and not the reality of support beyond Nintendo's own games.

and my general point is being a middle ground type of console isn't inherently a bad thing because not every gamer is some weird gaming extremist. Releasing casual games along with hardcore games didn't fail because of that, they failed because only now is Nintendo marketing anything properly and they lost their casual audience years ago.

Well it seems that Nintendo didn't know who the Wii U was for. On one had in Wii U 2011 they pulled a ton of talk of getting the core gamer back who has lapased away from their console platform. how ever they're 2012 marketing and E3 had a more casual focus with the core games either being ignored or being ports from other consoles.

From a software perspective they had a decent split between the two but delays kind of turned that to crap.

Seeing Nintendo's track record throughout its entire life, I don't see why not. For the most part, they're the first and at the moment the only game company I can think of that create unque games that others imitate, clone, and/or draw inspiration from. With that said, I imagine a modern robot friend that you can operate in game and real life would be nice or a similar game to life interaction.

I would love to see what Nintendo could come up with if they made a 21st century R.O.B. I think it might be time to revisit the Virtual Boy too, I can't help but think that despite the original's failure Nintendo has continued to develop the Virtual Boy device behind closed doors over the years.
