I'm glad Nintendo is choosing to evolve beyond classic video gaming, as it is the video game industry has been stagnating for far too long and in desperate need of radical innovations to breath new life to it. If Nintendo is willing to at least attempt to innovate, instead of being content like many others to follow formulas that frankly started feeling tried at the start of the last console generation, I think that is something that should not only be supported, but expected from other developers as well.
As someone who has been an avid video game player for almost thirty years I feel like I've been waiting for what's next for far too long, I mean seriously it's 2014 and we're still playing games on fixed surfaces with static button controllers, am I the only one who thinks these quaint staples of video gaming have been feeling a little long in the tooth and restrictive?

Hopefully this means "Nintendo movies" instead of "Nintendo Fitness"...
I hope that post was made in jest. Nintendo movies have a reputation for being horrendous. References: The Wizard, The Super Mario Bros. movie (RIP Bob).

Oh. I'm sorry. Let me fix that:
Hopefully this means "Nintendo movies with actual involvement from Nintendo" instead of "Nintendo Fitness".
Also, compare Marvel's 20th century movies to the MCU ones. Yeah.
What if Nintendo made something animated involving it's various franchises. Kind of like smash brothers subspace emissary where they work together or nes remix where they are in each other's games. Maybe the main character is a mii trying to save miiverse or something and must visit different worlds in an nes universe.
Anyway it would have to be done right maybe team up with a company for it, Disney would probably be the first choice. Maybe even have it be interactive somehow.
When I was a kid captain n was lots of fun to watch and that show was pretty bad. Wreck it Ralph had lots of characters in it and people were excited about it even though they were cameos not important to the plot.
Their too kiddy for anything beyond games. Unless they want to compete with Fisher Price, I don't see that future.
I sure hope that's an exageration....
Nintendo might be kiddy but not THAT much.....

I was about to make a really long post about how Nintendo needs to catch up in the world of gaming before they can even think of stepping outside of it, but you summed it all up in a sentence. Thanks, lol.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
I know it shouldn't but it surprises me that even on a Nintendo forum their are people who so completely misunderstand Nintendo as to think Nintendo has to "catch up" with other developers even though that's like criticizing an orange for not being more like an apple.

They are only behind in sales(without 3ds), not in gaming. So while it sounds "cool" to say they are "behind", it's flawed.

@mipaol Except Nintendo isn't an Orange, nor is it an Apple. It was an Orange all of the last generation, but now there is an even better "orange" (casual gaming) and a better "apple" (dedicated gaming) and Nintendo can't seem to make up their mind on what they want to be. They show off a cool, cutting edge machine with tech demos highlighting power, and then they get blown out of the water by Sony and Microsoft. The casual gaming market is pretty much dominated by smartphones and tablets, so it's high time Nintendo picks their market, because right now it just feels like they are undergoing an identity crisis. @Spanjard "behind" isn't so much the right word, but identity crisis much better fits it. Apple has taken over the market that the Wii was in, and the PS4 and XboxOne are ruling the dedicated gaming machine market. What is the Wii U? It doesn't seem to be an apple, and it doesn't fit in with the oranges, so what is it?

Which Wii U games have you played? What's so "casual" about the gameplay in games like Tropical Freeze, 3D World (the later half), Wind Waker, Wonderful 101 or Pikmin 3?
Seeing Nintendo's track record throughout its entire life, I don't see why not. For the most part, they're the first and at the moment the only game company I can think of that create unque games that others imitate, clone, and/or draw inspiration from. With that said, I imagine a modern robot friend that you can operate in game and real life would be nice or a similar game to life interaction.
A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

Mario - CGI movie
Zelda - Live action movie
Metroid - Live action movie
Star Fox - CGI movie (with a more slightly more realistic art style than the Mario movie)
Spacebound/Mother 1 - CGI movie
Pokémon - CGI movie, no doubt (Apokélipsis... [shivers])
Super Smash Brothers Melee, introducing Captain Falcon and Pit - CGI/Live action movie
THERE YOU GO. Go full Avengers with the movies, Nintendo. 10 billion dollars and a pie.
