REDMOND, Wash., April 24, 2013 – Nintendo Co., Ltd. (NCL) today announced a planned promotion for Tatsumi Kimishima, current chairman and CEO of Nintendo of America (NOA) and a director of its parent Nintendo Co., Ltd. Subject to shareholder approval, he will become NCL managing director, and transfer from NOA in Redmond, Wash., to NCL headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. In his new position, he will assume the roles of general manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration, and general manager of the General Affairs Division. These titles are currently held by Yoshihiro Mori and Masaharu Matsumoto respectively, both of whom are retiring. Kimishima will assume his new duties in Kyoto later this summer.

Kimishima was named to his current position at NOA in 2006. He first joined Nintendo in Japan in 2000, and was subsequently named president of Pokémon USA in 2001, before moving on to become president of the Nintendo of America subsidiary in 2002. Previously, he spent 27 years at Sanwa Bank of Japan, with multiple postings in North America and Central America.

Many of his current responsibilities, including the CEO title, will be assumed by Global President Satoru Iwata. The move will support the company’s unified global strategy, allow streamlined decision making and enhance Nintendo's organizational agility in the current competitive environment. Reggie Fils-Aime will continue in his role as president and COO of NOA, reporting to Iwata.

This is a polite way of Iwata saying, "Step aside, I'll handle this. If I'm going down, at least I'll be calling the shots on the way."

Geez, NOA headquarters is getting crowded now.

Maybe some generic miis with random facial features creating a surprisingly elaborate picture could help even it out. I'm rooting for you Mr.Iwata!

Huh, so he's keeping his current role, but getting more responsibility. This is gonna be interesting. Obviously he's competent for the job, but that's a lot of stress, and anyone could crack under the stress of all the positions he's in.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Considering the piss poor job Reggie has done the last few years I say this is a great move. Maybe NoA will finally get its act together.

Iwata is only a footnote of the story...

Obviously this came out as a result of the Nintendo company's restructuring as a result of significant operating losses. I hoped Iwata was not crying yesterday when we has giving his report to Nintendo investors. Much like Apple Tim Cook (who by the way yesterday according to MSNBC people "Forbes reported that Apple is looking for someone to replace him"), Iwata's ass is also on the firing line for incompetence. Even if this is just part of Nintendo's restructuring plan pending shareholders' approval (this is only a plan & not yet approved), I'm seeing this as a punishment of the two CEOs (Kimishima & Iwata) as they're now given the tasks to divide the work of two people among themselves as oppose to Nintendo hiring two additional CEOs to replace the two retiring CEOs (Mori & Matsumoto) whom I think decided to retire with honor rather than working on a company marred by huge financial losses.

It should get us more localizations at least.

Read carefully - "Nintendo is not crowded". This is a business restructuring that came out as a result of the Wii U's poor sales. They will lost 2 retiring CEOs on the planned restructuring & have to punish other 2 remaining CEOs by having them pick up the work of the two CEOs they will lost due to retirement.

Iwata was short of a target of what he said was a personal commitment of a $1 billion operating profit this fiscal year (it's all over the news including Bloomberg). He's now betting on the release of triple A titles after E3 to pick up some momentum on the Wii U sales. He needs to pray that this titles will be a huge hit for Nintendo. If not, he's going to be in a lot of trouble.

Reggie needs to go too. He's not doing something substantial on the US market when US accounts for at least 47% of the entire global sales (close to half).

^This.

Honestly I think they should have either demoted Reggie or moved him somewhere else. But maybe with Iwata overseeing him things will hopefully get better.

@Cheaptrick
What do you think of Sony's situation? They are basically half the company they used to be since PS3 came out.
Nintendo is usually stable with moderate losses or gains for the most part.
I think the software sales will pick up. Once Mario Kart U, Zelda WW HD, LttP sequel, W10, etc, more people are also going to be willing to buy alot of the bigger 3rd party titles also available on Wii U like Tekken, Injustice, COD, or whatever else.
3rd party games will be bought more once people realize there are alot of games and features besides the ones they bought the console for.

He's just getting a head start for when this thread becomes irrelevant debates about nothing (the 50th thread in the past month that fits this description).

I agree with you Tasuki. There are people here that often derailed thread. Unfortunately, I sometimes respond to this thread derailments.

I kinda noticed that too. If you look at closely of his Sony post, it's actually baseless. Not sure where he got his figures.

You should look at his button states thread too. Unfortunately lots of people also went for it.

Sorry if I seemed to sound rude but I am just tired of thread getting derailed that they end up having nothing to do with the heading. At times I feel like I should make a new thread to discuss what the thread originally was to discuss. Anway /rant over.
