Recently my wii u has started to have severe wait times, longer than when it originally launched. Any idea what could cause this issue? Thanks in advance for any replies.
Seems like the average Wii U to me haha.
But seriously it could be because the update is about to come out, which will cut the time in half. I can't wait for this update!
I have noticed it's increased since I put injustice in the disc drive which is odd, I'm not sure why a disc in the drive while not running would increase load times.
I'm pretty sure each time you transition through different menus of the console, it validates the disc inserted. Don't ask me why, as it should only validate when going to the main channel menu if it hasn't validated it already. But, my theory as to why some disc-based games take longer during these transitions than others is perhaps because the disc itself may not be of the appropriate read-speed. The drive runs at 5x if I recall (22.5MB/s), but what if those particular discs are set to a max of 2x? I would be shocked if this was true, because then in games like Lego City Undercover, the long load times in-game could have been improved by simply using a better disc.
It's only a theory though, as it could be any number of factors, like the specific data used for validation on the disc is more complex, for example.
It's your mind playing tricks on you. The long wait for a spring update scheduled next week makes you so anal with load times that it gets into you. Besides games getting regular updates from game developers, only the Miiverse app received regular updates from Nintendo. There's no firmware updates since last December to basically the Wii U is running the same OS version since last year. Hence it's not browser related, unless your Wii U is broken then it's mainly in your mind.
Every time an applications is closing I wonder what the system is doing in the background. Nintendo managed to cut down on the load times which means some of the routines the system was running when an app was closing was unnecessary (in which case I wonder why Nintendo put in those routines anyways, I have a personal feeling that the system was running some sort of security check when apps closed to check for unauthorized modifications). I think the Wii should have had longer loading times than the Wii U because when ever you start a new app the systems loads up a special system software for that app which essentially causes the system to do a soft-reset; the Wii U seems to run everything on one operating system which means loading applications should theoretically be faster.
