They're not about to possibly damage the sales of either of these games by immediately announcing a sequel during the opening weeks of these two game's sales. Use your heads, folks.

How would this damage sales?...Wont it make more sales?

How do you propose officially announcing a new console 3D Zelda would help the sales of a $50 HD remaster of a ten year old console game and a new handheld game in their opening few weeks of sales?

Hard to imagine it causing so much excitement in the franchise that it would more than compensate by additional sales from previously disinterested fans to cover the losses from those that instead decide to save their money for Zelda U. Wind Waker HD in particular could easily be harmed by being too hasty like some are suggesting Nintendo should do.

It's better that it appears to be a couple of years away yet. It's not like there's concern if it's underway or anything since they've clearly have said otherwise. But there's absolutely no need to start promoting it now and take away attention from these two other games.

Every Zelda fan knows that there's a new Zelda game on the way. If you're talking about the masses, they wouldn't know one way or another, meaning the sales wouldn't be hurt either way. The game won't be released until at the earliest the end of next year. Nintendo said themselves that WW: HD is supposed to tide Zelda fans over for the big one coming in 2014/2015.

Ummm one remastered..thats the hype built up and the 3ds Zelda is on the 3ds so that should not matter and announcing it and releasing are two different things

I'm guessing Nintendo will do another January Nintendo Direct where we get updates on the big 2014 games. I'm guessing were going to see the new Zelda game either there or at next year's E3.

And I really doubt that Nintendo ever officially said that about Wind Waker. It's widely held that the reason for this, at least in part, is to get a Zelda release on to the platform while everyone is waiting on Zelda U. But I really doubt Nintendo would ever trivialize this release in such a manner by all but relegating it to stopgap status.

They did. Anouma said so himself.

Anouma has mentioned numerous times in interviews that Wind Waker HD served several purposes, among which being a) giving him experience in developing Zelda in HD and b) giving Zelda fans something to play while he works on an original title.

And no, it wouldn't hurt sales at all. No one passingly interested in Zelda is really going to think "Oh, there's a new Zelda game coming out in 18 months? Well, I'm not buying the one currently out then!"

Gosh, Iwata's English is rather poor in that video. Hasn't he been speaking it for a long time now? Even in his last few Directs, his pronunciation has been much better.

I love how Iwata talks so slowly with long pauses whenever he speaks English, because had he spoken in normal speed nobody would understand what he's saying!

I still don't expect them to show a trailer of a game that is 2 years away from being released. That rules out anything later this year. The soonest we'd see something would be mid-2014. I believe Zelda U s still almost certainly very early in development,-- Not unlike when Zelda for GameCube was shown at E3 2004 which was a 1.5 years before Nintendo's indended release, holiday 2005, and 2.5 years before the actual release on Wii and GameCube in Nov & Dec 2006.

Zelda U needs TIME so I cannot fathom it coming out before Nov 2015.

Anyone expecting a late 2014 release, I think they're gonna be disappointed.

Since Nintendo was using Wind Waker HD to experiment for developing Zelda U, how could anyone reasonably expect the new Zelda to come out 1 year later? Makes no sense at all.

Ive actually read that it is much farther in development than thought, and could be released early 2015, or late next year. I'm guessing that there is a pretty big chance that they will announce it before e3 next year, I mean they were going to show it at last e3, so I don't think they would wait a year to actually show it. I really feel like Anouma will show it at his developer conference at the New York Comic-Con on October 10-13.

I remember reading that Zelda for GameCube (the one that would become TP) was very far along in development shortly after the E3 2004 reveal. It still wasn't released for another 2 and a half years after that.

The only way a late 2014 release is going to happen is if the Zelda team is really rushing it, which is highly, highly doubtful.

I'd expect some amount of information during E3 2014. I think something more than what Nintendo did at E3 2010 when they showed a single piece of artwork for Skyward Sword, but nothing too revealing. Then from late 2014 through E3 2015 they'll show more & more of the game, leading upto a Q4 2015 release. I can't see things happening very much differently than that.

Zelda U has been in development since they finished Skyward Sword. Do you guys seriously not know how Nintendo treats Mario and Zelda titles? They are ALWAYS working on BOTH a console and handheld version of each game. Aonuma recently made a comment about how he is working on several titles.

I think that working on several titles at the same time is actually a good thing.

Now, do you think by "several" he meant two? He probably has very little to do with Wind Waker HD. That's probably a team of new people at Nintendo that are basically being trained by remaking Wind Waker, just like the team that made OoT3D. It gives them experience and it gives us a cool remake to tide us over until the new Zelda game is finished.

As far as when it will come out, I say there will either be a trailer or a demo for the new Zelda U at E3 and that the game will either come out by Holiday 2014 or end up being delayed and come out in February 2015.

Nintendo is almost certainly not going to put out its biggest game for the Wii U generation after a holiday season. They did that in the U.S. and EU with Wind Waker on GameCube (early 2003) which no doubt contributed to its poor sales compared to OoT before it on N64 in late 1998 and TP after it on Wii/GCN in late 2006.

So the earliest I could see Zelda U getting released is late Q3 2015, in September of that year. Yet even that doesn't make much sense when they could sell more closer to the holidays in Nov.

I'll gladly eat my words if we get Zelda at the end of 2014, but at the same time I want Nintendo to take its time.
