Miyamoto had stated that they had planned to show something off at E3. Whether it was actual gameplay, a still picture, or even just a title we don't know.
I think the reason they refrained was to avoid Zelda overload. With WWHD & LBW right around the corner, 3 titles is just too much Zelda(not for me actually, but for most!)
Well, WWHD just released digitally, and LBW is in 2 months, so I expect Zelda U to be officially announced to fan the flames of Zelda interest a little.
I'm guessing we're looking at a Direct Sept-Oct, and another Nov-Dec. I hope it is announced at one of these! I guess it all depends on whether or not they want to wait until LBW is out first. As it's a portable title, I don't think either will steal the other's thunder.
So, what's your prediction? The next ND, the one following that, or a later one? Maybe e3? When do you think it'll be announced?
I think we might get details this E3, Video and possibly Gameplay E3 2015, Release Date is late 2015 or late 2016 (if there are delays) that is only a guess.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I'm guessing we won't get an official reveal until after LBTW is out. I'm guessing the first glimpse in a January direct like the one we saw this year. As for the release date it utterly depends on what's out next year. With Halo and ncharted all but confirmed for next year I could see the next Zelda being pumped out to counter Microsoft/Sony's big guns.

No way, if they were about to show it at this e3, it will certainly be shown soon. Anouma has hinted many times that the game is pretty far in development, and it is rumored that this is the biggest development ever for a Nintendo game. I'm guessing we will see footage this year, or early next year, more details at e3 2014, and the game will release late next year, or early 2015. @Sony_70 that's pretty likely that Nintendo will be thinking about Sony, and Microsoft's big games for next year, they need to compete, and the only way I see them doing that is with Zelda, since Mario will be coming out soon, and Metroid hasn't even started, or is in early stages of development.
Don't expect anything and you'll be surprised if they announce something. Wind Waker HD isn't even out physically yet and it's only out digitally in the US because of the bundle. It's not out at all in Japan or PAL regions....

I'm starting to think we just might get the new Zelda by holiday 2015, with a reveal via Nintendo Direct either at E3 or later in 2014.
On another note, I'd be really happy if the new Zelda had visuals as good as the 2010 Zelda HD Experience demo. There is also this updated version of Unreal Engine 3 which I think Wii U would be capable of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjxL_J_7j9M Even though the console is certainly not capable of UE4, it should be able to cope with that level of detail in 720p at 30fps. It's probably a bit less advanced than the Wii U Japanese Garden / Bird demo
It'll definitely be revealed before the next E3 IMO, and it will most likely be during a Direct either the end of the year, or the first one of 2014, both of which tend to have the biggest announcements.

All the articles I've seen say that they're not that far in development. They've been working on two Zeldas concurrently, and the most recent articles state that they're rethinking tradition. I highly doubt this will be released next year, and we probably won't get much info at E3 either. Maybe something, but I think that a Majora's Mask 3DS will be released before the next Wii U title, since it's handled by an outsourced company and everything is already set in place from OoT 3DS.
