Does Wii U have the power to replicate the GC functionality (if the memory card and controller ports somehow materialized) by slowing down the CPU and GFX card? I'd say so, if the present hardware really can execute the same code.

Does Wii U have the power to replicate the GC functionality (almost purely) by software emulation with logical memory cards and controllers? I don't know, actually.

@Kawaiipikachu - the GC emulator (rather, hardware simulation) you describe would likely mean giving up on Miiverse, the VC restoration points, customizable control mapping and all that stuff that comes with using a Wii U and its VC. Do remember that even when playing GC games on Wii, the Wii controllers could at best be used to turn off the console - if even that.

The Wii U doesn't have the restore points for the DS virtual console (or at least for Brain Training) and I can see them scrapping it for the NGC and N64.

Im not so sure... To be fair you need quite a decent PC to run GC/Ps2 games, i dont think the WiiU has enough (emulation wise, of course it can run those games no problem)

Unless they manage to create an emulator powerful enough without needing too much resources (or maybe "shut down" the wiiU so it can free those resources, actually thats not a bad idea), which "hackers" havent done in a 100% way, (Dolphin ita getting there, but its still not)

For emulation you not only need ro run the GC, but the WiiU itself, thats why you need ao much power

Yeah...I have every game I want on Gamecube. Only one left I even wanted to try was Kirby's Air Ride, and I actually got my bro to replay it recently (He had a friend with a GCN), and apparently it still sucks. Even if they rerelease it, I'd wait until it goes on sale, so...

I don't think it's possible. If it is, I don't see any logical reason why Nintendo would delay. Same with N64, why delay?

You can already play N64 games on the Wii U by going into Wii Mode and using its Virtual Console.

I know, and I have most VC games being a retro head, but I am fussy, I want to be able to play these games on the Pad without having to use a classic controller, would also like Pilotwings 64 released, I also want Amiga, Saturn, Dreamcast on the Wii U VC. Why not? I think maybe we will only see Game Cube games as HD remakes, this I don't mind

But Kirby Air Ride never stunk. How can it still stink, if it never did? (I guess they didn't play any City Trial, because yeah, the other modes aren't that great, but City Trial makes KAR my favorite multiplayer game ever.)

On topic, I really have no idea if the Wii U is powerful enough to do a full emulation or not. I'm sure it's possible to run GameCube games, but it might only be through some Wii mode trickery, and if Nintendo can't get the Virtual Console menu and Miiverse and stuff like that working, they probably wouldn't release any GameCube games. I think it'd be awesome, even though I have plenty of GC games. (I would definitely re-buy KAR though!)

I like makin' games!
Future Pinball games!
Petit Computer games!!
and SmileBASIC games!
Waiting for Kirby Air Ride 2. One day, it will come. One day...

I wouldn't say the WiiU is definitely capable, but it certainly has the horsepowers. The whole issue is that you can't just program a general emulator and expect it to run every game flawlessly - some games actually put a lot of strain on a system, and an emulator can't just lag in such cases. As such, the emulator framework has to be customized for every single title, and that's a boatload of work: processing power, digital RAM, controller feedback conversion, analog trigger emulation (if you don't have a GC controller), stability, virtual loading environment, etc. There's so much to take into account, and everything requires a lot of testing to make sure performance is constant. That's part of the reason GBA VC on WiiU often requires four to five times the size of the actual game.

I'm glad you said part because I'm fairly certain that the biggest reason why GBA games on the Wii U are so big is because they have fully scanned manuals. I don't remember how big the GBA games on the Wii U but if memory serves me correctly it's something like a hundred MB or so? They have full colour manual scans in there. Go and download a PDF manual, they easily go into the 10s of MB. Especially when they're full colour.

The way I understood it, was that there were only a few parts from Wii that that the Wii U couldn't handle natively. Otherwise, Wii U parts handle most of the Wii mode. So, an entire Wii isn't in there; only a few key parts to run Wii mode.

If GCN VC came to Wii U, they probably wouldn't run it off of those parts, It would be just like any other VC game running in Wii U mode. I don't think it would be that tasking on the hardware. I would think restore points would be hard to do, but suspend points would probably work.

It's not that hard to understand why it's taking them so long to say anything. Microsoft and Sony haven't done this sort of thing on their home consoles, either. Last time I checked, alot of older games were released on Xbox Live and PSN for Xbox 360 and PS3, and none of those games had restore points, which is what the Wii U VC offers, and that's beside the point that Xbox One and PS4 currently don't run 7th gen software. It would be pretty hard to b**** at Nintendo about VC with all that taken into consideration.
