Topic: Is this Wii U's best Christmas so far? (Long post!)

I agreed with another poster on here recently when he said "The games I get for Christmas define my Christmases in a way". I feel like it's so important to both the company from a financial/momentum perspective and the customer from a personal connection standpoint, for many reasons.

For the company- Companies always have atleast one "big Christmas game" to anchor them through the Holiday season as it is the time their game sells the most and has the best chance to become a hit. It's a Holiday about spending money, and companies look to capitalize. If a company has a big enough Christmas, it can even turn the tides of momentum and turn around a struggling console, making it become successful moving forward.

For the customer- It can really create a connection with the console moving forward as this is the time of year where nearly everyone, young and old, knows that both they, and whatever gamer friends they have, will have school/work/whatever off for an extended period of time and can get together and game it up. It's a very special time of the year and many gamers have fond memories of their Christmas years and the games they played in each.

Which brings me to a couple questions.

1. Is this Wii U's best Christmas? I have to say definitely. it's the Wii U's first Christmas that's even above "decent", but luckily it's way above! For me to consider a Christmas an awesome gaming Christmas, there need to be atleast 3 games that have come out in the last few months of the year that have a somewhat "epic" feel to them, as well as variety throughout the games. My favorite Christmas ever was the first N64 Christmas. Mario64, Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire, and Waverace64. 3 extremely different games from each other, but all with an epic, varied, robust nature to them. 1 a complete open world, the other with epic levels with a huge variety and sense of scale, and the third a simple, yet fun title to break up the other 2 to have some co-op fun with your friends.

AN AWESOME CHRISTMAS NEEDS TO HAVE THE FEELING OF "WOW, I HAVE ( _____ AMOUNT OF TIME) OFF OF (SCHOOL/WORK) SO I CAN EXPLORE THESE BRAND NEW, EXCITING WORLDS!

A mix of Smash Bros WIi U, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad, and Hyrule Warriors is a truly above-average line up and is exciting, albeit lacking that TRUE, EPIC adventure/rpg type game I like to anchor my Christmas, but no biggie. It's coming... Which.. Leads me to my next point...

2015 could be the best Nintendo Christmas yet! Anchored by what will hopefully be one of the best Zelda's ever in Zelda U, we have SO many options to make it a robust, exciting Christmas lineup! ZeldaU plus StarfoxU, SMT x FE, Mario Maker, plus whatever unannounced games they have.

I'm rambling at this point, so let me streamline:

1. Is this the Wii U's best Christmas ever?
2. What is your favorite Gaming Christmas of all time and why?
3. Are you excited about next year's Christmas potential, and what do you think it will be, including announced games and games you can throw in for fun as potential unannounced ones. Only include games set to come out between October-December 2015, as it Splatoon comes in March or so, it's obviously not a Christmas game!!!

1. The post-launch holiday period is always hard to beat. Though given how great the software lineup has been this year? Yeah, probably.

2. It's a tough call. The one just after the Wii launched was pretty special because everyone got involved. The Wii U launch was similar because Nintendo Land, despite it's critics, managed to do similar things when I booted it up after lunch. However if we're talking about "of all time" then I can't go past the ones from when I was a lot younger. Getting a Gameboy was a pretty momentous thing for a kid in the 90s and I clearly remember getting mine in '95. I mean just look at it, how could you not instantly fall in love with that thing?

3. Probably. Hard to top Smash but.

I'd say the first Christmas was better, simply because it was a new console launch and that was exciting. But quite frankly, if I end up playing Smash Bros U even 1/5 as much as I did Melee, I'll probably play it more than the entirety of either Wii U holiday lineup (not both combined though...I assume). Even if I bought every single Holiday 2012/2013 game and had the time to play them as much as I would want. If anyone has all of the consoles, I think if you get the Halo Collection, Smash Bros and if you're taking advantage of PSN or Steam sales or something, you could likely not need to buy more games for a year+

As you quoted me in your post, I figure it is only appropriate that I respond.

1. I did not have a Wii U for the first Christmas, but last Christmas was pretty fun for me too. I got the Wii U as well as Ducktales Remastered (still remember my Birthday when I got the original so many years ago), Wind Waker, SM3DW, Batman Arkham City and Batman Arkham Origins, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Sonic and Mario Sochi, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Rayman Legends. It was a blast.

2. Same as yours. I loved all three the games you listed for N64 as well as Cruisn USA. It was a good time. So, so, so much fun. Last Christmas was fun as was my Gamecube Christmas (Melee). This Christmas I am getting Smash, Captain Toad and Hyrule Warriors. That should keep me plenty busy for the Holiday.

3. Assuming X and Zelda Wii U come out before Christmas that one will be a lot of fun. Two types of Christmas's are better than others: New Console Christmas and new Zelda Christmas. Can't wait for new Zelda Christmas.
