Topic: Is there anyone who thinks Nintendo is too kiddy, yet enjoys kids cartoons?

Lets be honest, Nintendo has the image of a kiddy company in the eyes of the average gamer, whether its deserved or not. With that being said, is there anyone out there who feels Nintendo games are too childish, yet enjoys watching kids shows like Adventure Time, MLP, Gravity Falls, Wander Over Yander, Korra, Steven Universe? I know why adults enjoy these shows, but to these people, what would make Nintendo kiddy, but something like Wander Over Yander not kiddy?

Sigh...
I've changed their minds, though, but people who might fit into this group are some of my classmates...

God first.

I don't think Nintendo has a ''kiddy'' image, that was just something people said to convince themselves the Xbox was worth $700

Almost certainly there is but I don't think it matters really.

Maybe cause with video games, you get to interact with it being the player.

I don't think you'll find the answer you want on a Nintendo board.. I'm not even sure what the point is

The point is to ask if Nintendo's kiddiness amoung gamers is really due to the cartoony visuals or not. If somebody thinks Nintendo is too kiddy, yet enjoys watching My Little Pony, then they must have other reasons for thinking Nintendo is kiddie.

Nintendo isn't kiddy, and none of those cartoons are kiddy. (Can't speak for MLP, I've never seen it).

People just assume that Nintendo is kiddy, because their games are rated E, and E10+, just like you assume those cartoons are kiddy, because they air on children networks.

Fixed. Oh and FYI, I don't think those cartoons are actually kiddy.

Well, a friend of mine says Nintendo is childish, and he's still a fan of Spongebob and Regular Show.

But I dare say there's a difference between cartoons and the cartoonish presentation of certain Nintendo games. That difference is that a game isn't a show. You control a game to an extent through whatever protagonist it features, while a TV show progresses without any input from the viewer, except turning off your TV, or switching the program.
The claim that Nintendo games are childish is because Nintendo has a tendency of averting the implications of possible action, or in other words, censor parts of their games through design. Take stomping Goombas as an example: logic would dictate the Goomba will splatter over the ground as a mess of flesh and intestines, but that's rather gross. And while it was a technical limitation back in 1982, Nintendo leaves Goombas disapperaing in a puffy cloud instead of leaving carcasses behind. The same applies to killing enemies in Zelda games, with them also disintegrating into a cloud instead of "dying".

But that's simply a matter of context. Why should Mario leave dead Goombas behind? That's not the point of Mario games, after all. So Nintendo leaves it out to draw the focus way from the act of seemingly killing a Goomba. And that's a very big part of what people consider childish from the game, while neglecting that cruelty doesn't mean maturity - because that seems to be the general mindset.

What's wrong with kiddy?

Nintendo is kiddy, and I love it. I'm a corporate attorney, which means much of my life is pretty boring. Nintendo games take me back to a simpler time when my biggest worries were finished the latest video game.

Bring on the kiddy.

So apparently, gamers want violent power fantasies?

I think the ''kiddyness'' myth just came from the period of time where Sony (and later Microsoft) took over Sega's old angle of trying to be the "cool" console - the color black, games with guns, games with cars, games with boobs (Tomb Raider).. implying that this is what mature white gamers play, whilst immature/young/Japanese people play Nintendo. It's a terribly basic marketing ploy that clearly worked very well.

Yes the bright, primary colors play a factor in these simpletons feeling comfortable labeling Nintendo as 'kiddy'. But that's all, isn't it? What else could you say? Nintendo games aren't easy, which childrens games are. They are fun though. Is fun kiddy? Is having fun playing games childish? Therefore making ''serious games'' like the war and driving simulators for adults? What a stupid way of thinking that is, eh?

A lot of this generation are starting to get bored of their non-gaming company consoles. They are getting sick of buying the same games because they aren't having fun with them, but at the same time they've been scared into not buying Nintendo because of the "kiddy" poopoodoodoocacapoopledoople they've lapped up. They're literally scared to say the Wii U is cool and fun, it's hilarious to me. I've watched my mates try and hype themseleves up regarding the Xbox One and PS4, they spent a couple of months trying to get excited, now it's still 2014 and they've got nothing to play! They're bored, I'll have them all on Smash and with 3DS' next year, the tide is turning.

The Question I'm trying to ask is if there ars people who think Nintendo is too childish, but love kids shows like the one I listed.

Nintendo has had a good amount of dark things in their own games,so I don't see the argument that Nintendo is "kiddy".I still enjoy cartoons made for children and stuff I enjoyed as a child to this day.

I think if someone likes any of those shows and doesn't like Nintendo, their problem with Nintendo probably isn't that it's kiddy.

Also, I can see that this is a topic you're into @TheMisterManGuy. Kiddiness.

@TheMisterManGuy It's not that people WANT "violent power fantasies" (interesting term, gotta remember that), many simply associate violence with maturity, especially when it comes to video games. The only ones who really want more of those games are fans of the kind, or people who never went to the PS4/XBone/PC department in a store.
