It's happened twice and both were very different in nature. The most recent one involved Nintendo Land spending a long time on the loading screen before the lights on the curtains. It just looped through the music and never got to opening the curtains. The first time I had it break was starting up DK Crash Course where it froze after showing the goal the first time I ever loaded the system. Between the two I've played it fairly regularly every day since launch with no other issues.

So how come i can go online...eshop , communities , youtube , etc and play games online for hours SINCE LAUNCH. EVERYDAY. and not have a single issue? Yet the messages lock up? = software bug in the miiverse social aspect of that software. I have a galaxy s2 that used to lock up regularly but i got a firmware update and it hasnt locked since. Was that a dud too? And IF u are as professional as u claim , u certainly wouldnt be lol'ing at issues such as these.

@skywake : Ok well apparently we all have DUDS LOL . Its funny apparently. For u to have it happen and then nothing for a while = software bug dont u think? It happens at a certain point , with certain pinpoint factors at that given moment. Software BUG

Yep. Whether you believe its software or hardware related... returning to the store for a replacement sounds far less annoying than sitting around waiting for Nintendo to release another patch.

No you can't enjoy your DUD because it is making you very sad, enough to keep on playing that violin to the claim of a software issue (the same software that is loaded on every WiiU in the whole world) which means everybody that owns the system would be experiencing the same issue I see the firmware update hasn't fixed anything so that means a professional like myself would immediately claim the hardware as the fault... I LOL at problems all the time and fix them because it's better than crying and not doing anything constructive about it like you guys

Ah so u know for definate that the update included a freeze fix? and can u say/ answer in your professional opinion why i have no problems with games and other online services? It all uses the same hardware does it not?....

I also see from one of your other posts recently that u say its 'users' causing the freezes. Now which is it?....hardware or users?

The first time I tried to run a game after installing this new update it was Nano Assault and it just sat on the initial screen for it. Couldn't turn the machine off via the power button on the unit or the Gamepad and had to pull the plug. After plugging it back in all seemed well.

Not sure what's going on with that, but clearly the new update hasn't sorted it.

That's the exact same problem I just experienced with Nintendo Land. It's good to know that I'm not alone.

If it's a software issue then returning it to the store won't solve the issue. All of us are probably facing the bug just some are lucky enough not to have stumbled across them yet. The people facing repeated lockups constantly? Could easily be a hardware fault. Very occasional extended loading screens and single system hangs in a week of use? There's a good chance many would by chance not have seen it yet.

Everybody who owns the system does seem to be experiencing the same issues. Very random, very irregular lockups. The people experiencing more regular problems could have easily changed a setting other people have left at the default. Like changing the "English only" setting for MiiVerse which apparently caused freezing. It could easily be a software issue, or multiple software issues, presenting itself with this range of user experiences.

If it gets really bad to the point where others have had it, repeated hangs constantly in multiple pieces of software, then I'll take it back. Right now? They're doing updates and the last one was on stability. The first problem I had hasn't repeated itself the second hang was massively different. IMO my first problem has been solved but the same update introduced this second problem. Both of which have only happened once.

I'd check the language settings on MiiVerse. Check that you're only allowing English messages through. Apparently that has fixed the problem for some people.

I agree returning to the store is a waste IF its software related. But there hasn't been a 100% confirmation the freezing is because of software bugs only. I merely suggest if people are fed up and want to do something other than sit around waiting for Nintendo to publicly acknowledge problems and patch them... return it the store and try a second console.

Agreed. Agreed. Like i said i have no problems playing games , browsing eshop etc , so il wait it out a little while longer instead of 'jumping the gun' and making rash decisions returning it for one that in all likelihood may have the same issue(s) ....or worse. Better the devil u know .

Il have a word in hmv tomorrow as the manager there told me...any issues bring it back. Il mention it ( the one issue ) and tell him il wait to see if it gets fixed / patched first , and if it doesnt or gets worse THEN il exchange. Im sure he will agree to this....me being patient first.

personally... id take the wiiu back 2 the store for an exchange 1ST (itll give ya piece of mind) ... if crashes still continue (on the new system) youll know its either software bugs or ya internet setup ...

The problem with waiting it out is you could be waiting for months/years and they might not solve the issues it is your right as a consumer to get a replacement especially when you have paid alot of cash for something that isn't working properly out of the box... Why wait when you can fix your issue within an hour or 2 simply by taking it back, so simple bro.

just fired up mighty switchforce ... never got past the main menu ... wiiu crashed ... i had 2 pull the plug cause the power button wouldnt switch the machine off... /facepalm

Apparently a synced wii-mote will turn a frozen console off? I have not tried this...yet. But i will.

I did this 2 days ago, and it killed my system. Now the power (blue light) turns on for 2 seconds and shuts off. My Mario U game is also stuck in the console. Never again will I buy any console at launch.
